WINDY GAP TRIP:
9th and 10th grade students who have opted to will
attend the WINDY GAP OVERNIGHT FIELD TRIP. The
Field Trip will take place from Wednesday, August 14Friday, August 16.
If anyone has questions or wants to register with
Bettie Linker, lead Drivers Ed teacher for UA, they
may call her at 704- 843-3210.
Driver’s Ed fees may be paid in the Accounting
Office.
We NEED Parents to VOLUNTEER for every trip.

Community Service Opportunities
UA Band Boosters are continuing our efforts to
raise money to start a marching band
program. Volunteers are needed to staff a
concession stand at various events at TWC
Arena. Our next event:

Academy will partner with the City of Monroe’s
Department of Parks and Recreation for a Park
Beautification Project. Mark your calendar and
stay tuned for more details!

•1st grade – COLLECTING FOR BRIGHT BLESSINGS! - candy , individually wrapped single serve size of fruit snacks,
raisin boxes, animal crackers, gold fish or cheese crackers (NO PEANUT PRODUCTS), party hats, rolls of clear cellophane
•2nd grade – COLLECTING FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE – pop top tabs, 4 yds of fleece (to make blankets),
foam door hangers
•3rd grade – COLLECTING FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY- plastics and aluminum cans for our recycling program
(feel free to bring in to lower campus – if we get enough, Habitat will set up a “trailer” for this purpose)
•3rd grade - COLLECTING FOR COMMUNITY SHELTER – personal toiletry items for care kits
•3rd grade - COLLECTING FOR SHOE BOXES FOR LEVINE’s CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL – Christmas Paper (needed to
wrap shoe boxes)

Kindergarten, 6th Grade, and New Students
The North Carolina Statutes (G.S. 130-A-152 (a)) require all school children to be up to date with all of immunizations prior to the
first day of school. The following immunizations ar e r equir ed:
5 DTP, DtaP, or DT doses (if 4th dose is after 4th birthday, 5th dose is not required; DT requires medical exemption.)
4 Polio doses (if 3rd dose if after 4th birthday, 4th dose is not required.)
1-4 HIB doses (ser ies complete if at least 1 dose given on/after 15 months and befor e 5 year s of age; not
required after age 5.)
3 Hepatitis B doses (Childr en bor n on or after J uly 1, 1994 ar e r equir ed to have 3 doses.)
2 Measles doses (1st dose on/after 12 months or age. 2nd dose at least 28 days later if entered K first time after
7/1/94)
2 Mumps doses (1st dose on/after 12 months of age. 2nd dose required if entered K on/after 7/1/08)

*If your child is exempt due to religious reasons, send a signed and dated note to that effect for the child’s record. If your child is
exempt due to medical reasons, send a signed and dated note from the physician stating the reason.
Per North Carolina State Law your child can be suspended from school until documentation has been provided to the
school that these requirements have been met. The documentation must come fr om a physician’s office, health depar tment
or state immunization registry. This information can be faxed directly to the school from the physician’s office. Please contact
your school nurse with any questions or concern.

Scripcards
Scrip is a year-round fundraiser where you purchase gift cards. Union Academy purchases Scrip gift cards at
discount between 2-15%. Families buy the Scrip gift cards at face value—UA keeps the difference.
Retailers include: Wal-Mart, Food Lion, Lowe’s, Chick-Fil-A, Olive Garden, Gap, Amazon, and 100’s more.
Last year, total sales of $87,000 generated $4,376 of profit. Only 10% of UA families participated! Just imagine, if
only 200 families spend $110/month and our school earns an average of 5% on those purchases, we could make
$15,000 in one year!
How to Order Scrip Gift Cards:
1. Fill out the Scrip order form (found on the Scrip page on the UA website)
2. Attach payment to form and send with your child or drop off at either campus.
3. If cards are available immediately, they will be given to you that day or the next. If cards need to be ordered,
they will be available by the end of the week.
