The concerts long ago becam e a beach institution and in his th ree years as maestro. C hurck has rap idly gained a wide rep u tatio n for good music — from be-bop to Bach. As in every band, each m usician has his own following, so fo r the benefit of those who g a th e r round every day for th e ir favorite songs we’l] point them out to you. The saxaphone section is m ade up of Merrill Bodge, a P ortsm outh man. originally from D etroit; F ran cis Rooney, whose hom e town is Ainesbury, Mass., and who has played quite some tim e a t th e RKO Keith, Boston, and Tom SakelarK who hails from Lowell, Mass, where he is well known in local dance spots. Behind the trumpets we have “BE-BOP” (Continued on Page Four) Fined For Leaving Scene Of Accident William R. Clark of Schenectady, N. Y.f fepresented by Attorney Wil liam Treat, pleaded guilty and was fined $15 and costs of $4.70 at Hampton Municipal court Saturday on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after property damage. Clark was picked up by Officers Dun brack and York 10 minutes a fte r his description was given po lice by witnesses of the accident which involved a car parked in front of the Grandview hotel on Ocean boulevard. The owner of the damaged car is the Reverend Phil ip Breton, a guest at the hotel. BUY NOW Trombonist Roger Snow, another Portsmouth man, packed up a I n r versity of New Hampshire degree in music and joined an Army band for a continuous war-time engage ment. The arranger for the Hill outfit, he spends his winters teach ing music to future artists. Triple-tunist Sam Stella has sev eral students in Boston who are learning the mysteries of the ac cordion, trombone and vibra-harp. Another Boston hoy. Charles Rhodes, plays the bass viol and doubles on the vocal solos, much to the delight of his feminine au dience, which seems to be quite large and growing all the time. Drummer-boy Alexander Milligan spends his winters teaching in the public schools in Lawrence, Mass., where he has earned a reputation in the local music world. The piano is expertly managed by John Fullford, a teacher of th at instrument and a resident of Salis bury. This is the group that has be come so popular under the direc tion of George S. "Chuck” Hill. A professional musician since he was 17 years old, Chuck Hill has played for many celebrities — among them Sonja Heinie, George Raft, Martha Raye, Jane Withers, and King George of England and the ex-king Edward, in Bermuda. A native of Maynard, Mass.., Chuck lived and played for some time in Boston, before coming to Hampton where he made his home on Ocean boulevard with his wife, Ann, and daughters, Diane and Les lie. The fire broke out in the rear of the premises and spread rapidly as neighbors hunted through tele phone books for the fire depart ment number. The box alarm was pulled In by Chief George Lamott of the Fire Department who hap pened to be leaving his home on Marsh avenue at the time the fire broke out. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McNault, the owners, lost all their personal be longings, saving only a metal box containing $550. They and four other guests were in the building at the time. All escaped without injury.
