What does Minnetrista collect?
Minnetrista collects the objects and archival
material that document the people, places,
events, organizations, businesses and industry
of the region – in other words, the history
of East Central Indiana.
A few examples of collected items include:
• Products made by area manufacturers plus
advertisements and related documents
• Photographs, documents, correspondence
and other material from regional
clubs, churches, schools, etc.
• Photographs of East Central Indiana
people, places, buildings, and events
• Maps which include East Central Indiana
• Diaries, correspondence and other
documents from area residents
• Objects that document life in the region,
including clothing and accessories, military
uniforms and memorabilia, quilts, and furniture
• And much more!

The Minnetrista
Heritage Collection
Caring for and using museum collections
properly consumes time and money.
Practical factors such as condition
influence collecting decisions. Minnetrista
doesn’t promise to exhibit all donated
items. Exhibit themes and space
limitations determine what items will
be exhibited. Some items are exhibited
immediately, some in 10 or 20 years
and some are used for research or
educational purposes. All items, however,
add to our knowledge of East Central
Indiana.
How will i know if my
donation has been accepted?
The Collections Committee of the Board of
Trustees regularly reviews potential donations.
If the donation is accepted, donors are notified
and asked to sign a document that transfers
ownership to Minnetrista.
How are Minnetrista’s
collections used?
The collections are used for:
• Exhibits
• School programs
• Research
• Public programs
How does Minnetrista
preserve collections?
Objects and archival materials are
• Stored in climate-controlled,
limited-access storage areas
• Packed in acid-free boxes
• Protected by cases or barriers
while on exhibit
• Handled with care
Can i take a tax deduction
on my donation?
Yes, you probably can; however, because
the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regards
Minnetrista as an interested party, staff
members are not allowed to appraise or assign
value to artifacts for any reason. According to
IRS regulations, certified appraisals are required
for a donor’s tax deduction of any artifact or
group of similar artifacts of more than $5,000
in value. For donations with a value of less than
$5,000, a certified appraisal is not required. See
your tax professional for further information.
Who do i talk with
about donating?
Call (765) 282-4848 or (800) 428-5887 to make
an appointment with a collections staff member
to view the potential donation. You may also
e-mail [email protected]. Please get in
touch with us before you throw anything away!

East Central Indiana.
