We are pleased to bring you real-time Internet bidding and a live broadcast of this sale

Choat Cattle Company will retain 1/3 semen interest in all of the bulls
in their offering. Semen will be collected at Choat Cattle Company’s
expense and at the buyer’s convenience. The buyer has full possession and salvage value of the bull.
Health:
All bulls are guaranteed breeders and healthy sale day. Interstate
health papers and brand release papers will be provided on all cattle
selling. All bulls sell fertility tested and with scrotal measurements
available sale day. Heifers are bangs vaccinated.
Trucking:
Free delivery to all points in Nebraska and to neighboring states
within 300 miles of Burwell. We will also be glad to assist in making
the best possible trucking arrangements. Trucking is the responsibility of the buyer on the commercial heifer lots. A $100 per bull credit
will be given if you haul your bull sale day.
Insurance:
Will be available sale day.

This may sound a bit stupid, but this “lot” is the one I am most excited about. The true reflection of any program, whether purebred
or commercial, is the replacement heifers. This is a collection of 175
pretty damn good Red Angus replacement heifers.
At catalog time, the break down is 60 head from Jim and Scott
Boettcher and 40 head from Neal and Mary Ammon. These folks are
some of my oldest, dearest friends and customers. Between Jim and
Scott, there have been over 50 bulls relocate from Carns to south of
Stuart through the years. Neal has alot more input in my program
than he gets credit for, because without him, I wouldn’t AI half of
what I do and he tests a number of my sires via his own AI program.
So either through multiple pasture sires or extensive AI use, I get real
world feedback from two outstanding commercial programs. We’ve
sold feeder calves together here in Burwell for years, and I’m just as
proud of their heifer pens as they are.
And now, for the largest reflection of my own breeding program,
comes my own commercial herd. Yes I have used a bull or two from
my own program thru the years, like to the tune of 125 plus of them
over the last 20 years. If anybody has a handle on what the cow families have done and are doing, I think I have a pretty good idea. Due
to a little change in management and resources, I’m offering for the
first time ever my entire commercial replacement crop. The feeder
heifers have been taken off the top, the late born grass heifers off
the bottom, the only heifer calves at home are the 45 purebred replacements. If someone is looking for true front end heifers, come
to Burwell March 3rd!
And as a side note, there just might be a tick over 40 head of bulls in
the joint offering that are suitable for use on heifers.

First and foremost, A SINCERE THANK-YOU for your interest in
both our programs and attending or participating in “ We’re Doing It Different... Part II”
True to form, we do it different.... from birthing, to summer grass
and on to winter development....and coming 2’s have a vastly different nutritional requirement than a 10 1/2 - 12 month old bull
calf. These calves aren’t developed as many yearling bulls are,
and they are 2 months younger than most yearling bulls offered
for sale. With that said, if you are set up to accommodate the
needs of younger bulls and want to do so in your own environment, the same $100/bull haul your own credit is offered. If you
don’t wish to drag a trailer to Burwell, I’m more than happy to
take the bulls back home and finish their development until the
grass starts greening up and you are ready for them.
This accomplishes 3 very important things.
1. The calf gets to go back to a 50 acre sandhill pasture and finish his individual development process in an environment that
provides ample exercise to harden the calf up for the upcoming
breeding season.
2. These are young calves,and they will all be semen tested prior
to the sale March 3. NOT EVERY CALF TO SELL WILL HAVE PASSED
A SEMEN TEST. They will have passed an evaluation. What this
means, Dr. Chris Finney from the Ainsworth Veterinary Clinic will
semen test the bulls, and any bull he deems to be developmentally deficient will not make the trip to Burwell.... or more accurately stated, each calf will have to be at 60% motility. There will
be a few calves that still exhibit coiled tails, but given a few days
of sunshine and the smell of spring in the air, they will quickly
achieve 70% or better. This re-evaluation process is done entirely
at my risk and expense, and every bull is guaranteed to pass prior
to delivery. All bulls will receive a breeding shot, will be poured,
and if requested, a foot-rot vaccine shot prior to delivery.
3. I’ve always been of the firm belief that if you could take the
time to come buy a bull, I can take the time to deliver the bull
and come look at your cows and calves. I WANT to see what your
sires are doing and it gives me the opportunity to “ see what you
see”. And from a breeder standpoint, it’s a lot easier to recommend genetics when I can see with my own eyes what your goals
and needs are.
