Un mot de notre Présidente A Word From Our President Bernadette Ulens Bulletin d’information n° 7 SEPTEMBRE 2015 SEPTEMBER Newsletter no. 7 Chères Amies, "En travaillant ensemble pour aider les plus défavorisés nous souhaitons créer un esprit d'amitié et de coopération parmi nos membres et tendre vers une meilleure compréhension de la culture des unes et des autres"... Voilà ce que disent nos statuts. Et pourtant, combien d'entre vous m'ont-‐elles dit: "Nous ne nous connaissons pas". C'est justement grâce a notre action commune, le coeur de notre Association, que nous apprenons à nous connaitre et a nous apprécier. Quand arrive-‐t-‐il que plusieurs groupes dits nationaux coopèrent pour organiser ensemble un événement ou monter un dossier projet? Au sein du CA, connaissons-‐nous toutes les autres chefs de groupe? Lors de notre Bazar de Noël, allons-‐nous a la rencontre de toutes ces membres enthousiastes qui animent les autres stands? Que savons-‐nous vraiment de leur culture, de leurs valeurs? Les occasions de rencontres ne manquent pas; ainsi des liens se sont créés et se créeront entre celles qui voyagent ensemble vers Budapest, Amsterdam, Madrid -‐ et bientôt Dublin. Notre équipe 'Newsletter' a eu l'idée d'une page intitulée 'D'une membre à l'autre', qui nous permettra de communiquer d'une manière plus personnelle. Bientôt, nous espérons aussi voir aboutir ce joli projet d'un livre sur nos différentes cultures et traditions, fruit d'un effort commun. Cet automne, une réunion informelle de bienvenue pour les nouvelles membres leur permettra de faire connaissance entre elles et avec le Bureau Exécutif. Quel meilleur moment que cette promenade EFTA du 24 septembre a l'Arboretum de Tervueren pour réfléchir ensemble a une plus grande synergie? Le même groupe nous invite au Conservatoire Royal le 3 octobre, et deux jours plus tard nous aiderons le groupe autrichien a fêter son 20ème anniversaire. Nous organisons aussi une formation pour les utilisatrices/utilisateurs de iPhones le 17 septembre et pour nous détendre, le groupe Italien nous invite à un Apèro-‐Jazz le 1er Octobre! Apprenons à ( mieux) nous connaitre, je parie que cela en vaut la peine ! Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl Dear Friends, “By working together to help the most destitute, we wish to create a spirit of friendship and co-‐operation among our members and to promote a better understanding of each other’s cultures.” This is what our articles of association state. Still, we can often hear the words “…but we don’t know each other”. It is by our shared actions -‐ the very heart of our association’s activities -‐ that we can get to know and appreciate one another. And yet, how often does it happen that two or more national groups work together to organise an event or set up a project proposal? Within the CA, do we know all the other heads of groups? At our Christmas Bazaar, do we meet with the other enthusiastic members working at other stands? What do we really know about their culture, their values? Opportunities to meet fellow members abound. Through recent trips to Budapest, Madrid, Amsterdam, and soon to Dublin, strong links were, and will be, created. Our Newsletter team recently came up with the idea for a page called “From member to member”, where we can communicate with each other. We hope that a booklet about our different cultures and traditions will be published soon. In the autumn, an informal welcome gathering will be organised for new members to meet each other as well as the members of the Executive Bureau. We dearly hope for an exchange of further ideas on this theme with and among many of you: could there be a better opportunity than the arboretum walk organised by the EFTA group on 24th September? The same group invites us to the Conservatoire Royal on 3rd October. And two days later, on 5th October, we can help the Austrian group celebrate their 20th anniversary! There will also be a training session for iPhone users on the 17th September and the Italian group invite us to an Apèro-‐Jazz on the 1st October. Tél. 02 414 77 78 | Gsm : 0495 99 64 28 E Mail : [email protected] Visitez : www.oldorientexim.be Adresse : Rue du Moniteur 22 - 1000 Bruxelles 4 Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl PROJECT OF THE MONTH PROJET DU MOIS De Bourges à Sagon: La construction d’une salle de classe Lorsque le groupe de jeunes, parti de Bourges, pour quatre semaines, en ce mois d’août 2014, arrive à Sagon, village d’un secteur défavorisé du Bénin, il est accueilli avec joie par les habitants. Tous ensembles, ils vont pouvoir commencer à construire une nouvelle salle de classe pour le collège qui s’agrandit peu à peu. Aidés de quelques professionnels, jeunes, enfants et adultes du village travaillent dans la bonne humeur et l’enthousiasme. C’est sans engins mécaniques mais avec les efforts de tous, que les armatures métalliques se dressent et que les parpaings s’assemblent. Tout le matériel (ciment, barres de fer, béton armé, outils divers, planches de coffrage, etc.….) que l’association Femmes d’Europe a contribué à fournir a trouvé là toute son utilité. Après quinze jours de travaux, le chantier a déjà bien avancé, les murs sont maintenant à hauteur d’homme. En effet, désireux de faire découvrir à des jeunes de 18 à 25 ans d’autres pays, d’autres cultures, il organise des chantiers de jeunes à l’étranger. En à peine deux ans, l’association a tissé des liens entre les quartiers nord de Bourges et le Bénin. Le voyage a été préparé en 2013 par cinq personnes de « Terre Fraternelle » qui ont rencontré l’association béninoise à l’origine du projet et les responsables du collège. Par une aide concrète sur le terrain pour des populations défavorisées, ces jeunes développent un esprit d’ouverture, d’entraide et d’amitié. Comme le dit l’un d’entre eux, cela permet de « vivre ensemble la solidarité par le biais du travail ». Le groupe de jeunes, toujours très motivé, reviendra en août 2015 pour aider aux finitions. Lors d’une soirée festive à Bourges, le groupe a pu présenter son expérience et donner envie à d’autres jeunes de participer, à leur tour, à cette aventure donnant ainsi tout son sens au nom de leur association : « Terre Fraternelle ». C’est grâce au Père Piron, fondateur en 2013, de l’Association « Terre Fraternelle », que de tels échanges sont possibles. This workshop will provide information about some basic apps: writing a text, surfing on the Internet, taking and adapting photos, searching for train schedules or listening to music. Together we will install a few of these apps. This workshop is for beginners. Please bring your Apple ID with you. Sous un soleil rayonnant, le petit monde arrive en train ou en voiture. Dès notre promenade dans le centre pittoresque, nous tombons sous le charme de cette cité -‐ heureux hasard -‐ jour de marché aux puces. De cet endroit, la vue sur l’Abbaye Saint Maurice et le Château de Clervaux est imprenable. Sur invitation de l’Association Femmes d’Europe du Luxembourg, un grand nombre de nos membres ont visité la colline de l’Aarnescht à Niederanven. Cette colline au relief accidenté a été classée en 1988 "Réserve Naturelle". L’Aarnescht, avec sa pelouse sèche, abrite de nombreuses plantes assez rares dans nos régions ainsi que des pins noirs et des bosquets donnant un caractère typique à la colline. L’intérêt de nos membres ayant participé à la promenade exploratoire, s’est surtout porté sur les nombreuses variétés d’orchidées qui, entr'autres, ont fait la réputation de l’Aarnescht. Fin mai est la période de floraison. Aucun photo ne peut refléter que partiellement toute la beauté de ces fleurs. Ensuite, nous nous retrouvons toutes sur les terrasses ombragées du restaurant “Les Ecuries du Château”, situé dans la forêt, en face du château, surplombant la ville, c’est un endroit génial! On fait vite connaissance et la présence d’un membre du groupe polonais est vivement appréciée par les petites dames luxembourgeoises. L’apéritif aide à installer une bonne et chaleureuse ambiance! Les conversations amicales vont bon train, et nos éclats de rire se mêlent aux chants des oiseaux perchés dans les hauts sapins qui bordent les terrasses. Le déjeuner est servi au restaurant dans un cadre original et convivial. Nous pouvons déguster des bons plats locaux qui font plaisir à nos fines bouches gourmandes. Hélas, le temps passe trop vite, et ce bon moment d’amitié touche à sa fin dans l’après-‐midi. Ce fut une journée formidable ! Quelle bonne idée a eu notre amie Christiane de nous réunir simplement pour ce “voyage de classe”, duquel nous sommes tous rentrées avec la promesse de nous revoir certainement lors de la prochaine manifestation de notre groupe. Edmée Ewert Groupe luxembourgeois LuLu Charlotte Berens Groupe luxembourgeois LuLu Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl 19 PAST EVENTS Banquet du 31 mai 2015 au restaurant La Hacienda, à Vilvorde Anna-‐Greta Vanhassel, Brigitte Borsei et Ghislaine Troubetzkoy Nous pûmes siroter une excellente sangria pendant la projection d'un très intéressant documentaire sur Valence. Le groupe « Espagne » de l’Association a eu l’excellente idée d’organiser en guise de manifestation un banquet réunissant les « anciens » du formidable voyage à Madrid qui eut lieu en octobre dernier. Mais ce n’était qu’un début, et les festivités ne faisaient que commencer. Répartie en plusieurs grandes tables, la nombreuse assistance put savourer un repas digne des plus hauts éloges, dont le clou fut la présentation solennelle d’un immense plat contenant une somptueuse paella, à laquelle tout le monde fit le sort qu’elle méritait, c’est-‐à-‐dire disparaître peu à peu des assiettes en délivrant à chaque bouchée de délicates sensations gustatives. Du grand art culinaire. Pour souligner le caractère ibérique de l’événement, les organisatrices avaient jeté leur dévolu sur La Hacienda, restaurant tenu par des Espagnols, qui n’a, je me hâte de le dire, absolument rien de la fameuse auberge espagnole. Nous étions conviés pour midi et demi à La Hacienda, située au numéro 34 de la chaussée de Koningslo, à Vilvorde. Le GPS, engin assez efficace, enclin cependant à proposer des itinéraires conformes, certes, à sa logique, mais pas nécessairement au bon… sens, nous mena dans une ruelle qualifiée de Koningslosteenweg par un panneau, longue d’une centaine de mètres, aboutissant à un cul-‐de-‐sac et bordée de maisons numérotées de 100 à 110. Pas de numéro 34, pas d’Hacienda ! Heureusement nous fûmes sauvés par l’internet, qui nous guida vers l’autre tronçon de la steenweg, bien caché, où, soulagés et rassurés sur notre équilibre mental, nous trouvâmes La Hacienda. 20 Bernadette Ulens et Adelina Lorenzo de Parajón À la fin des agapes eut lieu la traditionnelle tombola, au départ dans une joyeuse confusion, mais la vitesse de croisière fut rapidement atteinte. Dans les lots, il y avait un énorme jambon espagnol qui aurait bien fait mon affaire, mais tous mes billets de tombola se révélèrent stériles. C’est la vie… Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl PAST EVENTS d’institutions renommées fixées aux murs de La Hacienda, notamment une recommandation de Gault et Millau, un label délivré par le Scientific Institute for Intelligent Nutrition, ainsi qu’un certificat du périodique Le Vif décernant à Mme Gonzales le titre de « Fouet d’Or/Meilleure cuisinière » . Pilar Triquet de la Torre et Elisabeth de Lille Après la tombola, les magiciens qui avaient préparé le régal se présentèrent, notamment la cuisinière en chef, femme énergique, sympathique et enthousiaste, qui exposa aux convives avec ferveur sa philosophie en matière de cuisine. Selon elle, tous les ingrédients doivent être sélectionnés en fonction de critères stricts de qualité, de fraîcheur et d’origine. Ils doivent surtout être produits dans le respect de leur nature, de l’environnement et de l’être humain. À mon humble avis, il s’agit-‐là d’une condition nécessaire, mais non suffisante. En effet, pour atteindre au degré de perfection auquel nous avons eu droit, il fallait aussi un savoir-‐faire qui ne s’improvise pas et un esprit d’équipe sans faille. Ces qualités sont d’ailleurs reconnues par plusieurs plaques émanant Marta Heere, Mitsou Entringer et Mª José Cano de Bryant Après cela sonna inexorablement l’heure du départ, car tempus fugit, comme chacun sait. En tout cas, l’adresse est à retenir, et un grand merci aux organisatrices de ce délectable banquet, où eurent l’occasion de se revoir de nombreux participants au mémorable périple à Madrid et Tolède. Henri Thonar La soirée à l’occasion du 10e anniversaire du groupe hongrois Mes amis, quelle soirée ce 11 juin ! Le groupe hongrois fêtait ses 10 ans d’existence dans la famille de notre Association. Violoniste Abraham Bence et la pianiste Tomoko Honda Un évènement tout à fait spécial. Du Dobogo Furmint et Pannonhalmi Tricollis, des vins blancs fins, légers et crémeux avec une note d’acidité fraîche, qui vont super bien avec le foie gras d’oie et de la mousse de truite fumé. Suivait un vin rosé ( Duzsi Tamas pinot noir) léger et frais, servi avec du magret de canard. Confortablement assises dans des fauteuils devant des petites tables garnies d’élégants arrangements floraux, nous sirotions de délicieux vins hongrois, servis en harmonie avec des spécialités nationales, tout cela orchestré et commenté avec talent par Jim Bauters, sommelier-conseil de la société JIBA. Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl 21 PAST EVENTS Ce qui était très sympathique et intéressant, était le fait que nos amies hongroises, nous expliquaient, avec le support de grands panneaux, les 8 différents sites de Hongrie repris au patrimoine de l’Unesco. Nos petites « abeilles » hongroises étaient d’une amabilité, d’une diligence dans le déroulement de la soirée comme des vrais « pros », la chaleur amicale en plus. Vraiment, je n’exagère pas ! Le support et l’aide enthousiaste et efficace des 2 Ambassadrices Anna Nagy-Kraus et Eva Sztaray ont contribué grandement à la réalisation de cet évènement différent de nos habitudes. Les ambassadrices de Hongrie, Eva Sztàray et Anna Nagy-‐Kraus Venait ensuite un vin rouge, très rond de la région de Pécs précédé du célèbre « Sang de Taureau » de la région d’Eger. Pour terminer, un superbe Tokay Dobogo Aszu « le vin des Rois » - comme le disait le roi Louis XIV accompagné d’un gâteau au pavot. Mais il n’y eut pas que de la nourriture terrestre ; le duo formé par Bence Abraham et Tomoko Honda ( piano et violon) nous a ravies en jouant de la musique hongroise. Notre sommelier Jim Bauters Mais, mon Dieu, comme le temps passe vite, déjà 10 ans !!! Je me souviens comme si c’était hier, des premiers membres hongroises, Hanga Dukasz, Zsuzsa Szilagyi et Adrienne Buranyi Nous souhaitons toutes, à ce groupe, une très bonne continuation pleine de succès et d’amitiés. Rolande Margot Groupe luxembourgeois 22 Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl PAST EVENTS Soirée Fado A la lueur des chandelles et au son des guitares, la salle de fête du Royal Etrier Belge se métamorphosait en une taverne de quartier de l’Alfama. Un verre de vin, de petites assiettes avec un assortiment de saucisson et de fromage du pays nous attendaient à table. Déjà s’élevait la voix de Maria Odilia Henriques. Elle est fadista par passion tout en travaillant au Parlement européen. Elle aime transmettre cette tradition de la nostalgie lisboète. Maria Odilia et Jorge nous ont chanté les charmes de la Lisbonne de jadis, la solitude, l’amour, le désir, la déception, la fuite du temps. Graça da Costa, Sofia Bostyn, Filomena Aguiar Les mélodies furent agrémentées d’un délicieux buffet « fait maison » par les membres du groupe portugais. La bonne chère, quelques verres de vin et les accents mélancoliques de la saudade nous ont agréablement bercés jusqu’à la tombée de la nuit. Les artistes, Jorge Morgado, Luis Ribeiro, Maria Odilia Henriques Elle chante tantôt seule, tantôt en duo avec Jorge Morgado dont elle a pu apprécier le talent dans les ruelles de Lisbonne. Luis Ribeiro, ancien guitariste de la fameuse chanteuse Amalia Rodrigues, manie avec virtuosité sa guitare portugaise, accompagné avec brio par une guitariste gantoise, Ana Luisa qui s’est pris d’amour pour le Fado. Minutes of the General Assembly of Friday, 20th March 2015 The President, Marie-‐Anne Dage, opened the meeting by welcoming the members to this 36th General Assembly (G.A.) of the Femmes d’Europe, open to all members of which only the ‘effective’ members shall have the right to vote, according to our Statutes. She also referred to the following articles covering the role of the General Assembly (G.A.): *In 1976 the EEC: the European Economic Community °Article 6: Effective members are women citizens of the member states of the European Union and of the EFTA countries, living in Belgium...(and in order with their membership dues). The following members also passed away during 2014 : Tatiana Bovenko of the Greek Group, Amelia Martinez Porras dite Chini Silva, of the Spanish Group and Louise van Heijst of the Dutch Group. The President then asked for a minute’s silence for those who have been mentioned and also for those who have not been mentioned. May they all rest in peace. °Article 10: Only ‘effective’ members have a right to vote. °Article 13: ‘the General Assembly’, (that is those of you present here,) ‘is the sovereign body of the Association; it has exclusive competence for: - - the election of the President and the members of the Executive Bureau, as well as the ratification of the nominations by the groups of their representatives; the approval of the budget and the annual accounts; fixing the annual subscription;’ ° Article 16: ‘The General Assembly shall meet at least once a year. The President shall preside and shall give a report of the activities of the past year.’ (Remark concerning Article 16, today due to pressure of time, the President’s report of activities will follow the voting.) The President made sure that all ‘effective members’ had received the envelope with the voting slips. She also asked all members to switch off their mobile phones. Before the approval of the agenda, the President wanted to thank those who had the courage to create our Association, especially Carola Ehlermann, who, in 1976, for the first time obtained a room in the European Commission. Three years later the “Women of Europe” were already a Group of 9 member states of the *European Union: West Germany, Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the UK, and the statutes of our a.i.s.b.l. were signed on 23rd March 1979. For this reason we are now having our 36th G.A. and we are only one year away from our 40th anniversary. She also thanked the other former presidents, who were honouring us with their presence this day : Shushu Synadino, Jantien Brinkhorst, Gillie Hinds and Annalisa Mancardi. Milly Benavides and Joke Hattinga van’t Sant are thinking of us this afternoon at home in their countries. She also asked that the absence of Mrs Irene Timmermans, our new Honorary President, be excused, due to her professional commitments. 24 Furthermore, the President reminded us with great regret that we lost our 1st Honorary President last year, Lady Mary Soames, daughter of Sir Winston Churchill, as well as our former President between 1981 and 1983, Mary O’Higgins Mooney. The meeting then proceeded with the Agenda. 1. Appointment of the meeting secretaries : Eva Tackoen Töttösy and Marijke Sickesz have accepted this responsibility. The minutes will be drawn up in French, which is our administrative language, and then translated into English. They will be published in a forthcoming Newsletter, put together by a new team, as Karen Englander, whom the President thanked warmly, will pass on the tasks after many years. The G.A. applauded Karen Englander for all her work. 2. Appointment of tellers for the election of members to the Executive Bureau: the Secretary General asked for 15 volunteers to act as scrutineers and to count votes, under the responsibility of the former Secretary General: Annik Verougstraete. 3. Approval of the agenda. The General Assembly unanimously approved the agenda. 4. Points arising from the minutes of 2014: The Assembly Genreral fixed the amount of the annual subscription at 50 € for 2015. 5. Approval of the minutes of the GA of 2014: you have seen the French version in the May 2014 Newsletter and the English translation – thanks to Marilyn Holmes – in the June 2014 Newsletter. Copies are available at the entrance. There were no questions, and no remarks. The Assembly approved the 2014 minutes. 6. Presentation of the Balance Sheet for 2014: the Treasurer Bernadette Grünhage presented the account for the year 2014. The result is positive. It amounts to 2.892,77 €, although a loss of 50.000 € was provided for. The main factors for this positive result were: - - The Christmas Bazaar which beat all previous records bringing in 157.830 € which is 12.830 € more than the provisional budget (151.830 € in 2013); The Greek and Italian Galas with a Total income of 70.700 € which is 40.700 € more than foreseen; Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl AGM MINUTES - The other events in the course of the year: 58.000 €, which is more or less the sum foreseen in the provisional budget. However, the Treasurer noted that the gross profit margin had fallen from 71% to 68,6% due to the increase in the costs of these events. In 2014 our running costs and amortization (depreciation) amounted to 2,55% of our turnover (2,4% in 2013). In 2014 the total amount spent on projects was 314.174 € (this amount includes 24.000 € paid from the Versichel Fund, which has now been completely paid out), and is an increase of 30.000 € compared to the year 2013. We ended the year with 536.641 € in the bank. 7. Approval of the Annual Accounts for 2014: The annual accounts, approved by the Administrative Council on 13th February 2015, were approved by the General Assembly. 8. Approval of the Provisional Budget for 2015: As the 2014 results were so good and as our bank accounts are in the black, the Administrative Council suggested to the General Assembly to transfer 100.000 € out of our reserves into the provisional budget for 2015. Thus the total amount for the projects will increase to 356.00 €, i.e. 42.000 € more than in 2014. It means : - 8.000 € for each national project with a total of 168.000 €; 188.000 € for the rapid aids and PED (pays en development), projects. Note that the remainder of the Versichel fund was completely used up in 2014. The provisional budget for 2015, approved by the Administrative Council on 13th February, was approved by the General Assembly. A question was asked about whether the proposed budget could be distributed in advance by e-‐mail perhaps some days before the General Assembly? The President replied that the provisional budget had indeed been sent out to all members in the preceding Newsletter – as has been the custom every year prior to the G.A. Another option, open to members would be to call in to the office to read the provisional budget. 9. Discharge of the Administrative Council : under the terms of Article 19 of the Statutes, the Administrative Council is responsible to the General Assembly for its management. The General Assembly granted it discharge for it’s management in 2014. 10. Election of members for the Executive Bureau, for a period of two years, to be renewed twice, for a maximum period of six years. Mandates for renewal : Vice-‐President for Press & Communication : 2nd mandate : Renate Smith; Treasurer : 2nd mandate : Bernadette Grünhage; Vice-‐Treasurer : 3rd mandate : Lilian Damstén. a. New mandates: Bernadette Ulens: President of the Association Femmes d’Europe a.i.s.b.l. : Bernadette Ulens referred to the Newsletter where she presented her CV -‐ she had also been talking to lots of members who had all encouraged her to put forward her candidature; she has had many challenges in her life and feels that she is now up to this huge challenge, which requires a lot of time and effort; she is very keen to work in this international melting pot. Ghislaine Troubetzkoy Vice-‐President Manifestations : Ghislaine Troubetzkoy said that she is a real Belgian and that she has had an exciting professional life and that she has been a member of the Belgian Group since 2010, she will do her best for the “manifestations” and she ends with the powerful words: ‘Together we must, together we can and together we will help those in need’. b. Mandates up for renewal :Treasurer : Bernadette Grünhage : Bernadette Grünhage is a Belgian and member of the German Group, she has been Treasurer for two years. She loves her job, the good atmosphere in the office, the friendship within the Association, the meetings of the Administrative Council and of the Executive Bureau, the roaring Bazaar... She would love to continue for a second mandate. Vice-‐Treasurer: Lilian Damstén : Lilian Damstén is a member of the Finnish Group, she presented herself four years ago in order to learn and she would like to continue this process of learning for another two years. Vice-‐President Press & Communication: Renate Smith : Renate Smith is a member of the Austrian Group. She works with a lot of enthusiasm for all new kinds of communication : the website, Facebook, the working together with the Newsletter team. She would welcome suggestions and initiatives from members to increase our visibility. 11. President’s Report : In accordance with Article 16 of the Statutes, the President is required to make a report on the activities of the Association during the previous year. A slide show prepared by Florence Sauquet (French Group) featuring the events which were the main source of funding for our projects was shown to the G.A while the President spoke. Projects were also funded by our own annual membership subscriptions and by gifts received by Femmes d’Europe. The income generated comes from rigorous management, the many Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl 25 AGM MINUTES participations, the taking over of costs by our sponsors and by the placing at our disposition of spaces such as the Atrium in Beaulieu used for the Christmas Bazar. We are very grateful to the European Commission for letting us have our offices in Beaulieu and for all the additional logistical and infrastructural support given to us at Beaulieu for the Bazaar, for the use of the prestigious Press Room in the Berlaymont for our Project Ceremony and for the auditorium Alcide de Gasperi in the Charlemagne building this afternoon of our General Assembly, with a team of interpreters at both events! In January 2014 our multinational Group organised a family meeting with a Hachiko dog trained to help handicapped people. The many children present were fascinated by the gentleness of the dog and happy to take part in the Epiphany cake eating. In February we went dining and dancing with the British and Finnish groups for a Jazz evening in Waterloo. There was the concert of the Greek Gala in the Woluwe Saint Pierre cultural centre in the presence of Mrs Margarida Barroso. March brought us the bridge tournament organised by the Irish Group at the Church Hall in Kraainem, we also enjoyed a day in Amsterdam under a beautiful blue sky with the Dutch Group, a great visit to the Robert Schuman house was organised by our Luxemburg Group. In April, several groups joined the Austrian Group at Vienna House to celebrate some Easter traditions, an event which will be repeated this year on Thursday, 26th March at the Easter Bazar at the TUSIAD, Avenue de Gaulois. In May 2014 there was the Spring lunch in Overijse with our UK Group, there was the Rock Disco party by the Portuguese Group in a Riding Academy, a visit followed by a dinner in Luxemburg, as well as a piano concert in the Argenteuil Castle, thanks to our Multinational Group. June was the month with triple conferences, which were started off by the Belgian Group and followed up by the French and Spanish Groups : we saw the evolution of the works of Matisse in the French Embassy, we learned more about Picasso in the Cervantes Institute and we witnessed the genius of Magritte in the exclusive “White Box” at the Bozar. There was also a luncheon in Luxemburg in June and to close the month we enjoyed a concert by the Cheng duo who came from Ottawa, hosted at the Canadian Ambassador’s residence, by invitation of the EFTA Group. In September, the Austrian Group encouraged us to run for the fight against cancer; our friends in Luxembourg organised a conference and we were taught how to prepare and later, taste some culinary specialties from Aphrodite’s island, in the Cypriot Ambassador’s residence in Brussels. In October the German and French Groups opened the doors of the gothic room in the Brussels Town Hall for a 26 piano concert by Fermin Bernextea, who came from Pamplona, Spain, the Austrian Group set up and exhibited works by our own Femmes d’Europe artists in the Hungarian Cultural Centre and our Spanish Group took us on a trip to Madrid and Toledo in search of national institutions, palaces and outstanding museums, and also the house of the poor which we had supported as one of our projects. In November, the Dutch Group organised a conference on the re-‐opening of the Mauritshuis in the Dutch Representation, our Group in Luxemburg filled up the auditorium of the Banque du Luxembourg with its traditional end of year concert, we went running in Uccle, once again for the fight against cancer, with the Austrian Group and then there was the Christmas Bazaar with the very fine results that you have been able to see in the balance sheet and treasurers report. In December, our dynamic Luxembourg Group took part in the antiques fair of the European Court of Justice and our calendar year finished with the magnificent Italian Gala on 5th December, with the Solisti Veneti at the Monnaie, at the same time came the announcement of the death of Her Majesty Queen Fabiola, which meant that Her Majesty Queen Paola could not be present as planned at the Gala concert. Marie-‐Anne Dage the outgoing President concluded by saying that our own members themselves are the prime sponsors for the financing of our projects of humanitarian aid and she thanked the Assembly most warmly. 12. Vice-‐President Projects: Walthera Hudig, Vice-‐ President for Projects, gave a summary of all of the aid that was given out during the last year : The figures : Last year a total of €314.174 was distributed to 83 projects all over the world. In the European Union 42 projects were funded. Which amounts to 53% of the total -‐ 27% went to projects in Africa -‐ the remaining 20% financed projects in the rest of the world. Leaflets listing all the projects funded are available at the entrance and the projects are also listed on our website: www.assocfemmesdeurope.eu. In 2014 the remaining Euro 24.000 of the Versichel legacy was disbursed. In addition to the general 2014 leaflet, a special leaflet, dedicated to Mrs Geneviève Versichel was prepared. It contains a complete list of the 32 projects that were financed with the Euro 250.000 legacy which Mrs Versichel left to the Associaltion in 2004. To mark the end of the so called “Versichel Era” a wonderful short film about the projects funded was kindly produced by Eva Tackoen’s husband Mr. André Tackoen. Many of you have seen this film at the recent Project Ceremony in January. A link on the website of our Association makes this film accessible to everyone. Project Ceremony: at the 2014 Annual Project Ceremony the results of all the fundraising efforts became visible. There were 8 speakers from various countries, who clearly demonstrated the impact Association Femmes d’Europe aisbl AGM MINUTES of our projects on the lives of many people all over the world. Walthera Hudig finished by thanking the members of the Versichel committee, as well as the members of the Projets’committee for their efficient work, boundless committment and enthusiasm. She ended by thanking the members of the Executive Bureau for their unfailing and loyal support. 13. Vice-‐President Press and Communication : Renate Smith, Vice-‐President Press & Communication talked about the importance of the Newsletter, our sponsors, advertising and publicity, the promotional material and the visibility of the Association. She underlined the importance of any corrections to be made in the Membership Directory and said she should be informed about them a.s.a.p. She mentioned the new address of our website : www.assocfemmesdeurope.eu. She wound-‐up by thanking Karen Englander warmly for her ten years editing the Newsletter. She thanked Maggie Lukomska and Anne-‐Marie van Dam for their work. The Assembly welcomed the new Newsletter team by applauding Aline Verhaegen and Nina Paaskesen. 14. Vice-‐President Events : Nadia Allgeier, Vice-‐ President Events, is at the end of her mandate, and said that she had enjoyed her job immensely, sometimes getting up at 5.00 in the morning to go to the market to buy flowers and vegetables for our events. She had also spent some of her time in the transport of bottles and furniture for events. She thanked all of her team and especially Patricia Cendrowicz, Nina Timar, Marta Heere, as well as the mailing team with once again Nina Timar, Tamara Jeynes, Françoise Perez and Judit Ivànkay. She has complete faith and trust in the new vice-‐president Ghislaine Troubetzkoy, who takes over the job today. Before giving the floor to Marian D. Conneely, the President thanked Marta Heere for her co-‐ordination of the Bazaar with her team also especially Christiane Nastri and Marie-‐José Bicho who had accepted the major task of managing the tombola in 2014. that we are also very happy and appreciative of any additional amounts which people may feel inclined to donate. 17. Other questions : Question : Could the mail addresses of members be put in the Directory? Renate Smith, Vice-‐President Press & Communications replied that this is difficult because of the members frequent changes of email address. A quick show of hands to see how the members present people felt about this matter revealed that most people are against it. This item was not on the agenda so this was not a formal decision merely the taking of the temperature of the meeting about this matter. It is a recurring question. 18. Results of the elections for the posts of President and Members of the Executive Bureau : Number of valid votes : 260 President of the Association: Bernadette Ulens: 235 in favour, 20 against, 5 abstentions; Vice-‐Président Events: Ghislaine Troubetzkoy: 228 in favour, 20 against, 5 abstentions Vice-‐President Press & Comm.:Renate Smith: 212 in favour, 41 against,4 abstentions; Treasurer : Bernadette Grünhage: 244 in favour, 13 against, no abstentions; Vice-‐Treasurer : Lilian Damstén: 236 in favour, 21 against by 3 abstentions. 19. Thank you by Marie-‐Anne Dage : Before closing the meeting, Marie-‐Anne Dage thanked all our members for their enthusiasm during these last six years for their joy in pursuing our objectives together with, on the one hand the understanding of our different values within the EU, and on the other hand complete dedication to our voluntary work for those deprived while encouraging as many new members as we can to join us and help us with our causes. The President also thanked the European Commission for the use the De Gasperi meeting room for this General Assembly and also the team of interpreters and the technical services for thier help. 15. Ratification of the election of members of the Administrative Council and the Co-‐ordinator of the Christmas Bazaar : The Secretary General, Marian D. Conneely, announced the composition of the new Administrative Council, which was then ratified by the General Assembly, and she asked for the confirmation of Marta Heere as Co-‐ordinator once again for the Christmas Bazaar. She thanked ‘Membership/Fichier’ team Szilvia Bajtay-‐Toth, Natalie Solar-‐Lerbs and Malgorzata Lukomska for their important work. They are present in the office on Wednesdays. The Secretary General also expressed her appreciation of the loyal members of her ‘office/permanence team: Sophie Stiehl Delhaze, Lys Carreau, Maryse Gerhardt, Nadja Allgeier and Suzy Steinherr-‐Kanler. Tribute to Marie-‐Anne Dage by Bernadette Ulens and Walthera Hudig : Both Walthera Hudig and President Bernadette Ulens thanked Marie-‐Anne Dage for her excellent work during her six years as President of the Association. Marie-‐Anne was presented with a bouquet of flowers and the Fd’E medal and chain (gold medal and chain an old tradition, with the Association logo on one side of the medal and the years as President on the other side) symbolising the links between the members, the Executive Bureau and the Members of the Administrative Council. Marie-‐Anne Dage was given an emotional standing ovation by the whole Assembly. She then formally handed over the office keys to new President Bernadette Ulens. 16. Annual Subscription Fee 2016 : The Assembly Genreral maintained the amount of the annual subscription at 50 € for 2016.
