St. Faustina Catholic Parish “Jesus We Trust in You” and Your Divine Mercy
Father Dave’s Corner
People are very free in the way we use
the word prophet today. The great leader
and proponent of civil disobedience,
Mahatma Gandhi has been described as a
prophet, especially to the people of India.
The late Steve Jobs, founder of Apple
computers and creator of the iPod, iPhone,
and other “I” devices was described after
his death as a secular prophet. There have
even been politicians and elected officials
described as prophets for their insights, beliefs, and commitment
to public service.
The traditional definition, as found in the dictionary, describes
a prophet as one who teaches or proclaims the will of the
Divine. In other words, a prophet claims to speak for God.
That’s a serious responsibility that should NOT be taken lightly. It
requires a person with seemingly great self-confidence or at
least confidence in one’s message. It requires a person willing
to effectively say, “God told me, so you had better listen up!”
Jesus took His role of prophet seriously, so much so that He
did not allow skepticism or lack of confidence of others to tear
Him down or stop Him in His tracks. Jesus persisted in His
ministry even though He was unappreciated and rejected in His
hometown as today’s Gospel passage relates. Jesus’ former
neighbors and friends were unimpressed by Him, which He
found frustrating and disappointing. But He turned it into a
strength; rather than bowing to the feeling that He was
accomplishing nothing, He moves on and becomes stronger in
His ministry and His message.
While Jesus does this, He is only following in the footsteps of
so many other prophets before Him, like Ezekiel. Ezekiel felt filled
by the spirit and was sent on a mission from God. Rather than
give up on the Israelites, God used Ezekiel to get through to the
people who had become rebellious and resistant. God’s
prophecy through him offers the people the opportunity to change
their ways and restore their relationship with God. Whether or
not the Israelites complied, God wanted them to know that it
was God, not merely the prophet, whom they were rejecting.
Ezekiel was commissioned to carry out this difficult task with
the strength provided by God. The message throughout all of
Scripture is the same—if we put our trust in the Lord and if we
allow Him to work through us, we can accomplish much.
Paul also received his power to minister from God. Despite
his personal failings and weakness, Paul was able to do the
Lord’s work, thanks to the grace God gave him. Paul, in fact,
boasted of his weaknesses, acknowledging that God gave him
the strength to overcome rejection and persecution. As God
replies to Paul: “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is
made perfect in weakness.”
For Ezekiel, Paul, Jesus, and even us, God’s response is
always the same: if we rely on Him, if we trust in Him, all things
are possible. As Christians, we share in Jesus’ prophetic mission.
We can bear witness to God’s word in our workplaces, in our
political systems and structures, and even in our communities
and homes. We cannot allow rejection to deter us, but we need
to move on and take God’s message to others who want to hear
it. (John E. Hingsbergen, Homily Helps, St. Anthony Messenger
Press)

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A DAILY DEVOTION
THAT YOU WILL FIND ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE:
Saint Pope John Paul II says about Adoration of the
Blessed Sacrament, “Jesus waits for us in this
sacrament of love,” where he repeats the eternal call: “Could you
not watch with me for one hour?” (Mt 26:40) And Jesus wishes
all the world to know that an hour of adoration is easy to do,
because Jesus is truly the easiest person in the world to meet
and to love.

have a special pastry social…with
some wonderful sweets available for whomever wishes to join us

celebrate with your fellow parishioners. BECAUSE OF THIS
CELEBRATION, there will be NO BAKE SALE that weekend.
IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING…Fr. Dave, Ron, and the staff
have been discussing some of the “layout” of our Church and
offices and meeting space for the new location at Glenbrook.
There was a meeting with Darryl, of the Diocesan Design and
Construction office, and an architect chosen by that office, back
on June 18th to share some preliminary ideas. We have been
informed that negotiations for the Lease have been continuing
and it looks fairly promising that we will be starting the next
Liturgical Year, the Year of Mercy (designated by Pope Francis) in
our new location. KEEP ON PRAYING & WORKING FOR THE
“MIRACLE” PLEASE!!!
FROM BISHOP NOONAN AND THE ORLANDO PRESBYTERAL
COUNCIL: At a meeting on Wed. June 24th the Presbyteral Council
voted to eliminate the Annulment Fees. This was done to stay in
accord with Pope Francis’ ongoing direction that the Church be a
“people of mercy.” As of July 1, 2015, Funds raised through our
Catholic Appeal will wholly support the work of the Tribunal. “May
our ministry illuminate the earth with God’s enduring love as we
serve His holy people.” (Bishop Noonan)
HELP AND DONATIONS ARE WELCOME: We have about 6 of our
teens from the parish who will be attending the National Catholic
Youth Council in November of this year. This is a great event for
them to experience the Lord in a special way, meet thousands of
faith-filled teens from around the United States, and improve their
relationship with the Lord and the Church. It is a weekend event to
be held in Indianapolis. The teens families will be responsible for
the cost which could run up to $750.00 each. We would like to
help them as much as possible; so, we are putting this appeal out
to all parishioners. If you would like to help them defray some of
the costs, feel free to drop a donation in the offertory in an envelope
marked NCYC Convention, and we will share the donation equally
among the teens. Please be alert…there will ALSO be a few fundraisers in the next couple of months that the teens themselves will
run to earn some reduction in costs as well. Please help these
youngsters experience the Lord in a new way.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED FOR THE PARKING MINISTRY—Our
Parking Ministry needs AT LEAST ONE fulltime member (for
Saturdays) as well as a part-timer and swingman (mostly for
Sundays but also for Saturdays). If you can help call the office.
The BAKE SALE is held the second weekend of every month.
ARE YOU A REGISTERED PARISHIONER?
Many times people have attended Mass regularly, and
for many years don’t realize they are NOT registered.
To Sponsor someone for Baptism or Confirmation, you
are required to have a Certificate of Eligibility from your
Church. Also to Baptize your child or enter them into
the Faith Formation Classes, you must be a registered parishioner.
Please register by picking up a Parish Registration Form
and Guide in the office reception area.
As of 6/26 we have 210 families pledging
$44,570.00 and paying $31,728.22 toward our goal
of $51,120.00. Participation is 41.3% of our 508
families. Please…please…those who have NOT
yet pledged, please prayerfully consider helping
our brothers and sisters in the Diocese of Orlando.

June 21st Offering:

St. Paul declares in his letter to the
Corinthians, the Second Reading,
“For when I am weak, then I am
strong.” Certainly anyone who
knows much about St. Paul would
not view him as a weak man. This
is a man who, through his strong
faith, put his life in jeopardy
constantly.
He
endured
imprisonment and shipwrecks. Yet, he admits to having
weaknesses.
There is something humiliating in admitting one’s weaknesses.
Humility is an important trait in living a life of stewardship. Being
able to recognize and admit our shortcomings is essential for us
to have the strength Paul demonstrates. That is his point in today’s
reading, and it contains an important message for each of us.
The reason St. Paul finds strength in his limitations is because he
is aware that the Lord will provide the power needed in the midst
of those deficiencies. Paul’s life is God-centered. Living life that
way is exactly the way one can best follow stewardship as a
way of life. Paul prefaces his statement about being weak and
strong by writing the message he has been given by the Lord,
who said to him: “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is
made perfect in weakness.” May we pray for the strength of
God’s presence, and may we be willing to seek humility to truly
find our strengths.
