LIPA Theatre in Education Tour at SJP
Gold Mining! El Dorado! Performing Arts! What’s the link, you ask? Well, this
week we welcomed the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts to the SJP drama department. Bringing their successful Theatre-in-Education tour, LIPA
provided an opportunity for all Year 9 pupils to explore the themes of Gold
Mining and the myth of El Dorado in a creative and inspiring setting.
Throughout the day our pupils watched in awe as they were entertained by
the professional performers. Pupils rose to every challenge set, answered
each question
posed and were
able to debate both
sides to the stories shared.
Our pupils really engaged in the narratives of each piece and
commented upon how much they had enjoyed their day, learning in a new way, and making links with their other subjects.
As LIPA struck the set and packed away their kit, pupils were
commended on their positive attitude to the day as well as
their participation throughout. Well done Year 9!
Reminder
College will be closed on Monday 8th December
Pupils will return to College on Tuesday 9th December at 8.40am

Design Your Future
A group of Year 12 students had an opportunity to
design their futures at an event in Manchester organised by UCAS, the University and Colleges Admissions Service.
Over one hundred different universities and colleges that run a whole variety of courses in Art and
Design based disciplines were present to show off
their courses to students from all over the North of
England.
Our students were able to quiz course tutors in
all sorts of areas, such as the course content and
the employment records for students on the
courses. They were also able to chat to current
undergraduate students to get the real low down
about life at those universities.
At SJP, we have a strong history in Art and Design and each year many of our students take up
courses in these areas. From the success of this
trip, this looks to continue.

Street Child Africa
11VP recently held a raffle in aid of Street
Child Africa.
Well done to Ellie Fisher,
11VP, who took the initiative to write to Everton FC
asking them to help us raise
money for the school charity. Thanks to Everton FC who were only
too willing to help by sending us the
signed photo to raffle.
Congratulations to Tom
Buckley 11BH who won the
raffle for the signed photo
of Seamus Coleman.
Everyone's a winner!
Year 10 Football
Last week our Year 10 Football Team advanced into the 3rd
Round of the Cheshire Cup with an excellent win against Calday High School. A goal from Jon Adediran and a brace from
Declan Drysdale ensured the team made it into the Fourth
Round Draw.

Cameron McGregor and Michael Williams.
Oliver King Foundation
Oliver King attended King David Primary school and started at King David High School in September 2010. He was a
keen sportsman who excelled in football, swimming, athletics and many other sports. Oliver passed away suddenly
in March 2011, aged 12, from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).
This condition usually affects people between the ages of 12 and 35. The Government recognises that 12 young
people each week die from SADS but it is believed that the true figure is around 16-19 people each week and could
be even higher as the condition is often misdiagnosed.
Oliver's parents have set up the Oliver King Foundation to help raise awareness of the condition as it can be controlled and monitored if detected. The money raised by the
Foundation will be used to raise awareness in communities.
Raising awareness is of vital importance as young people with
the condition do not usually show symptoms.
Some of the money will be used to buy defibrillators to be
placed in schools and local sports centres, etc. and to assist in
providing staff with the relevant training
Mark King visited St John Plessington to talk to our Pupils
about the Oliver King Foundation and why it was set up. He
also officially presented the defibrillator we now have in
school to Mr Rylance and showed the pupils a training model
to explain how it is used.
The pupils and staff were all affected by this very moving story and listened very attentively.

Yr 10 Additional Support Timetable
How many triangles can you see in
this picture?
This outlines times when Year 10 pupils can attend lunchtime
and after school sessions to receive additional support with
homework and classwork. They can also be accessed to complete coursework. Sessions will be run by department staff and
can be used on a drop in basis, unless otherwise directed.

Weekly Theme - Advent - Hope
Mark 13:33-37
Beware, keep alert; for you do not know when the time
will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he
leaves home and puts his slaves in charge, each with his
work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the
watch. Therefore, keep awake—for you do not know
when the master of the house will come, in the evening,
or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or at dawn, or else he
may find you asleep when he comes suddenly. And what
I say to you I say to all: Keep awake.’
We live in a world unable to find a solution to its many
problems: violence, war, famine, poverty and anxiety
caused by money worries, exploitation and human trafficking. This can lead to frustration whether we are aware
of it or not. Our broken world needs salvation, it has real
need for a saviour.
During the weeks of Advent our Gospels focus on making
us aware that God offers us this salvation in Jesus his
Son.
Advent gives each one of us an opportunity to share that
hope with others. This week’s Gospel tells us to “stay
awake and be on our guard”. To stay awake is to take
responsibility.
God visits us in unexpected ways. When he came on the
first Christmas night there were very few people awake to
his gift.
There are some gifts that we cannot afford to miss and
hope is one of them.
Prayer
God of Hope, help me to be aware of the needs of
others this Advent.
Amen
