MISSION STATEMENT—We, the community of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, located within
the larger, diverse and artistic seaside community of Laguna Beach, recognize and celebrate

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the
Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the
month.
CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS
At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as
soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy.
SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY
Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior
to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more
information.

TRUE BLINDNESS
Bartimaeus caused a stir. Normally he sat by the side of the road being a “good blind beggar.” But one
day Jesus passed nearby. Bartimaeus jumped up and called out to Jesus. We can imagine him turning toward the direction of the commotion and noise. Bartimaeus probably had his arms outstretched as he
shouted out to the son of David.
The people who knew him were embarrassed by his outburst. They tried to hush him up and get him to
sit back down by the roadside. Their actions spoke volumes: “Bartimaeus, you’re not fit for Jesus.” But it
was okay for them and other “sighted” people to follow Jesus. In today’s readings, we learn that true
blindness is not a condition of our eyes but of our hearts.

A Better Future for the World
The family is a community which provides help, which celebrates life and is fruitful.
Once we realize this, we will once more be able to see how the family continues to
be a rich human resource, as opposed to a problem or an institution in crisis. At
times the media can tend to present the family as a kind of abstract model which
has to be accepted or rejected, defended or attacked, rather than as a living reality.
Or else a ground for ideological clashes rather than as a setting where we can all
learn what it means to communicate in a love received and returned. Relating our
experiences means realizing that our lives are bound together as a single reality, that
our voices are many, and that each is unique.
Families should be seen as a resource rather than as a problem for society. Families
at their best actively communicate by their witness the beauty and the richness of

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
En varias ocasiones, Jesús le declara
al recién sanado: “tu fe te ha salvado” (Marcos 10:52). Todos los cristianos deseamos ser salvados. Y, ¿qué es
la salvación? La palabra “salvación”
viene del latín salus que también significa “salud”. La salvación es el bienestar en todas sus formas. Es el estar bien
con Dios, con las demás personas, con
la creación y consigo mismo. Los hebreos le llaman shalom y los árabes llaman salam que quiere decir: “paz y
bien”. Por siglos y hasta el presente, el
saludo de los pueblos semitas es: “La
paz sea contigo”. Se responde “Y también contigo”.
VERDADERA CEGUERA
Bartimeo causó tremenda conmoción. Por lo
regular él estaba sentado al borde del camino siendo un “buen mendigo ciego”. Pero un buen día pasó Jesús cerca de ahí. Bartimeo se puso de pie en
un salto y le gritó a Jesús. Nos podemos imaginar
como se daba vuelta en dirección al ruido y la conmoción. Probablemente tenía los brazos extendidos al gritarle al hijo de David.
Según Jesús este shalom, salam, salus, salvación, paz y bien se consigue
por medio de la fe. Hay que tener un
deseo profundo de tenerlo, para así pedirlo: “Jesús, Hijo de David, ten piedad
de mí” (Marcos 10:47). La salvación no
llega a quienes la esperan sentados en
una iglesia, más bien, llega a los que se
mueven y obran por ella.
Los que lo conocían se sentían azorados de sus
gritos. Trataron de hacerle callar y que se volviera
a sentar al borde del camino. Sus acciones decían
mucho: “Bartimeo, tú no eres digno de Jesús”. Pero sí estaba bien que ellos y otras personas “con
vista” siguieran a Jesús. En las lecturas de hoy,
aprendemos que la verdadera ceguera no es una
condición de los ojos sino del corazón.

de sumo sacerdote, sino que se la otorgó aquel que

cuando con gran fe le suplica: “Maestro, que
vea” (Marcos 10:46-52).

BAUTISMOS
Información para los que se preparan para el Bautismo.
Clases de preparación: Las clases son impartidas el segundo domingo de cada mes en cuarto B a las
11:00 en la parroquia de Santa Catalina con cita. La aplicación Bautismal debe ser completada antes de la clase.
¿Quién debe atender la clase? Los padres y padrinos deben atender una clase de bautismo.
Donde debería realizarse el Bautismo: El lugar más apropiado para bautizar a un niño es en la Iglesia de la parroquia donde los padres atienden Misa y son registrados.
Bautismos: Nuestros bautismos de infantes son programados mensualmente el tercer sábado de cada mes a las 10:00 en la iglesia de St. Catalina de Siena.
Los padres deben ser miembros de la parroquia de Santa Catalina y los padres necesitan venir a la
oficina de la parroquia para la aplicación Bautismal.
