Main College Bound Program at Temple University Ritter Annex, Room 320 (13th & Cecil B Moore Ave) The Main College Bound Program is one of seven youth programs offered by, Institute for the Development of African- American Youth, Inc. (IDAAY, Inc.) The Main College Bound Program is a culturally based enrichment program which consists of three principle workshops: Roots, Trends, and College Preparatory. Providing educational enrichment and exposure and new experiences for youth in and outside of their community. Creating an “I am going to college”, mindset by introducing our youth to a higher education setting while providing many practical reasons to attend. Building close partnerships with not only youth but parents and guardians . Encouraging our youth to be motivated while setting goals to get closer to achieving their dreams. The Main College Bound Program offers youth, ages 10 through 18 years, an opportunity to explore Multicultural American history, examine current trends in the urban community, and engage in activities such as: Leadership Development, Personal and Financial Management, and College Preparation. In addition to the workshops, participants are invited to attend monthly educational/cultural field trips. Offers youth the opportunity to examine the historical contributions of Multi-ethnic groups in the development of the United States. This workshop is designed to increase knowledge and improve self-esteem by fostering a stronger sense of cultural pride and identity. Allows youth to examine contemporary social, economic and political issues that plague urban America. Through interactive sessions, role playing and guest lectures, youth learn strategies to make themselves less susceptible to pitfalls in their formative years. Enhances youth knowledge about the SAT, financial/scholarship acquisition and the application process. Moreover, youth learn the fundamentals of college enrollment and participation including test-taking strategies and anxiety management through their participation in practice test-taking sessions. College Prep Courses for 11th and 12th grade students. Offering help with: Selecting the perfect college for you, Test taking tips, Applying to college, Finding money for college, & Providing the answers to your questions Integrity- Doing the right thing even if no one else is looking. Teamwork- Transcending differences to work in collaboration with each other. Trust/Respect- Seeing and believing in the good intentions of others without judging. Care/Compassion- Providing support, safety, and security to everyone. Ownership/Responsibility- Taking full personal responsibility for one’s work, action, and feelings.
