Different forms
of violations
experienced
Human Rights Violations as a means to threaten
and silence anti-mining leaders and communities
• Under PNoy administration,
there are 24 victims of EJKs;
1 family massacred (a mother
and her two children)
27 victims
• Harrassment (i.e. threats,
surveillance, etc)
• Strategic Lawsuits Against
Public Participation (SLAPPs)
• Violent dispersal of protesters
Our experience in Zambales—a human
rights defender at risk
What worries us is the limited response from the
Commission on Human Rights
• The CHR seem to be interested in
“business and HR”.. But there are
‘more important’ engagements.
• Complaints are filed … WHAT’s
NEXT? RESPONSE FROM THE
GOVERNMENT? (i.e. what’s next
after the CHR resolution on OGPI
in N. Vizcaya, Tampakan
massacre)
• We are lobbying that HR impact
assessment be a requirement for
all development projects.
