W e d r o v e up to S t a n n a g e E d g e , and c o n s i d e r e d the s t a t e of the
rock. It was certainly damp, and the low cloud suggest e d that it wasn't
going to get any drier, but it w a s just about climbable. The cold wind
failed to deter one of our number from attempting to look like a proper
climber by stripping d o w n to shorts and a vest (Fellwanderers brave?
Y e a h , right) and soloing up a descent route. A couple of people started
to lead s o m e easy routes, without a great deal of enthusiasm, but when
it started to rain we decided to give up and go back.
S i n c e most of the afternoon w a s available to us, we went shopping
for g e a r (the a f o r e m e n t i o n e d f a s h i o n f r e a k s p e n t £ 5 0 on a pair of
trousers), debated the possibilities of finding a dry crag (slim) and decided to go to a wall in S h e f f i e l d . The Foundry turned out to be a great
place, and at £2 to boulder it m a d e the L o n d o n walls look d e c i d e d l y
pricey. Three hours later, pumped , w e retired to our hall for a bite to eat
before sampling the w a r e s at the local hostelry. Then c a m e back to the
hut and started drinking seriously. S o m e fool discovered the wide range
of c o s t u m e s stored in the Hall, and our glorious leader was wearing a
dress within minutes (once he'd figured out how to get it on). W e have
photos, S i m o n : do you want your mum to s e e them? O n the vague idea
that it might be nice t omorrow and we would want to get up early and
climb, w e crashed out at around three.

cne-day taster sails, which have worked cut being a very
cheap way of trying the sport; similar days will prrbably be

O n W e d n e s d a y 22nd N o v e m b e r , IC Rifle and Pistol C l u b
hosted King's C o l l e g e for a friendly rifle match in the
Projectile Hall. Each C o l l e g e fielded a team of 8 shooters,
with half of Imperial's team being c o m p o s e d of new shooters
competing in their first match. A l l the new shooters from both
teams performed creditably, with IC's Daniel S c h n e i d e r
shooting very well, acheiving 188 (out of 200). Imperial's four
experienced shooters all did well, including B e n C h o w d h a r y ,
G u y Dewhirst and Philip G o l d s . The overall result w a s a win
to Imperial, the s c o r e s being; Imperial ; 1464 - King's : 1458.
A f t e r w a r d s much fun was had by all, as everyone went over
to Southside Bar for s o m e post-match eating and drinking.
