LobbyGuard visitor
management system
to be implemented at
BPSD school sites
The Bartlesville Public School District is always seeking new ways to
improve safety districtwide. As such, beginning in late August, the BPSD
will implement the LobbyGuard visitor management system at school sites
throughout the district.
Paid for by funds from the September 2013 bond issue, the LobbyGuard
visitor management will allow school sites

Beginning on the first day
of school, August 12, Bartlesville High School will roll out
a “Bring Your Own Device”
program.
The program, which has
taken off at schools throughout the country, will be the
first of its kind in the district. The program will allow
students to bring electronic
devices including laptops,
smartphones and tablets
to class and connect to the
BYOD wireless network.
Each student will be allowed
to connect two devices to the
network by logging in using
their BPSD username. Once
the user name is verified,
students will have access to
the BHS network and have
the ability to access files and
programs.
The use of devices in the
classroom will be up to the
discretion of each individual
teacher. Policies for the use
of devices in the classroom
may vary from teacher to
teacher. It is anticipated that
many teachers will further
integrate technology into the
teaching curriculum when appropriate with the new program in place.

Clent Stewart has been named
Bartlesville High School boys basketball coach. Stewart will take the reins
from longtime head man Tim Bart who
stepped down earlier this month.
Stewart is familiar with the
Bartlesville basketball program as he
served as Bart’s assistant for two years
during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
Stewart was a standout basketball
player at Union High School where he
helped Union capture a 6A State Championship in 2004 while earning State
Tournament MVP honors.
Following his stellar career at
Union, Stewart went on to star Kansas
State University where he was a fouryear starter from 2004-2008. At Kansas
State, Stewart won numerous awards
and honors. In 2005, during his freshman campaign, he was named newcomer of the year and also set a freshman
single-season assist record. Stewart
was named to the Big 12 All-Academic
first-team from 2006-2008. He finished
his career with the Wildcats ranking
seventh all-time in minutes played and
third all-time in assists.
Stewart resides in Bartlesville with
his wife Stephanie, the current BHS
pom coach. They have a two-year old
daughter Aaliyah, and are expecting another daughter at the end of August. He
is an IT Recruiting and Training Coordinator at Phillips 66 in Bartlesville.
“Clent certainly brings outstanding
experience to our basketball program
as well as great character. I am very
excited to have a young talented coach
like Clent on the sidelines for BHS,”
said BHS athletic director Tim Bart.
Gloria Tso is one of only
98 young women attending the
68th American Legion Auxiliary
(ALA) Girls Nation in Washington, D.C., July 19-26. Two
outstanding citizens, known as
“senators,” are selected at the 49
ALA Girls State sessions held
across the country to represent
their state at ALA Girls Nation.
This premier leadership conference is designed to provide practical insight into the workings
of government, promote youth
civic engagement, to instill a
sense of pride in America, and
to empower the next generation
of women leaders, providing
them with a national network
that lasts a lifetime.
Tso was active in many
ways during her week at Oklahoma Girls State, including
serving as Governor. She has
participated in many activities
in her school and community
including student government,
orchestra, and was elected Kiwanis National Sophomore of
the Year 2012-13.
A key component of the
ALA Girls Nation program is
the mock senate sessions where
the delegates write, caucus, and
debate bills. Campaigns are held
to elect party officials and an
ALA Girls Nation president and
vice president.
In addition to their legislative forums, the senators hear
distinguished guest speakers and
visit the Pentagon, Arlington
House, and other memorials in
the area. Their visit to Capitol
Hill includes meetings with their
respective senators and representatives and the opportunity to
meet President Obama.
“The ALA Girls Nation
experience is a once-in-alifetime opportunity for young
women across our nation,” said
Trish Ward, American Legion
Auxiliary Girls Nation national
chairman. “After attending their
local ALA Girls State program
and then ALA Girls Nation, the
girls return home with a passion
for democracy and an appreciation for our nation’s veterans
and their families.”
American Legion Auxiliary members have dedicated
themselves for nearly a century
to meeting the needs of our
nation’s veterans, military and
their families both here and
abroad. They volunteer millions
of hours yearly, with a value
of nearly $2 billion. As part of
the world’s largest women’s
patriotic service organization,
Auxiliary volunteers across the
country also step up to honor
veterans and military through
annual scholarships and with
ALA Girls State programs,
teaching high school juniors to
be leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism. To learn
more about the Auxiliary’s
mission or to volunteer, donate
