Donnelly/McNamara Win Rally New York USA
Weather Included Almost Every Possibility
(Walton, New York, April 17, 2010) Celsus “Charlie” Donnelly and Brian
McNamara (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) took home the top award for Rally New York USA,
the second round of the U.S. Rally Championship. This was the second victory in this
event for Donnelly, who also won three years ago, but the first for new teammate
McNamara.
Early in the rally, the top of the leader board was crowded with Mitsubishi
Lancers. But earlier today two of the fastest, the cars of Tom Lawless/Kristin Przybysz
and Martin Donnelly/Colin Fitzgerald, succumbed to engine problems. This was said by
the teams to be the result of sustained running at maximum revolutions on the event’s
long straights.
Cyril Kearney/Mark McAlister (Subaru Impreza WRX STi) placed second, 3-3/4
minutes behind the winners. They reported few problems, apart from a need to replace
the brake pads during a service break on the second day. Third place went to William
Petrow/Jeremy Neyhart (Subaru Impreza)
Matt Gottlieb/Austin Gager (Subaru Impreza WRX), now in their second full year
of rallying, took the class for Production All-Wheel-Drive cars, and placed fourth overall.
They were well ahead of class rivals Michael Cosgrove/John O’Reilly (Mitsubishi
Eclipse).
There was no surprise in the result of the two-wheel-drive category: this was the
only all-pavement national in North America, and the winners were Thomas
Greer/Robert DellaRocco (Volkswagen Golf GTI – also fifth overall), who admit that
they are pavement specialists. They were followed to the flag by novice rally competitors
Matthew Mathias/Tim Oliver (Ford Focus ZX3), who admitted to one, brief off-road
excursion. Erika Detota/Jason Smith (Subaru Impreza) placed third, battling a
transmission which was jumping out of third gear and a broken exhaust manifold.
Rally New York USA was conducted in the Catskill Mountain region of southern
New York State. Over the two days, competitors encountered a variety of conditions,
from temperatures in the 60s (Fahrenheit) and partly sunny, down to 40s with intermittent
rain, sleet, and snow. This provided a lengthy guessing game to drivers and mechanics
who were trying to adapt driving techniques and car set-ups to the changing conditions.
The two rallies-within-the-rally for the regional New York Rally Championship
went to Celsus Donnelly/Brian McNamara, with Martin Donnelly/Colin Fitzgerald
(Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) finishing as runner-up in the first event and William
Petrow/Jeremy Neyhart in the other.
The next eastern round of the U.S. Rally Championship, in the same area but on
dirt and gravel roads, will be International Rally New York on September 10-11.
Car-by-Car Results (cars listed in numerical order)
(number, driver/country, co-driver/country, car, displacement in cc, team/sponsor, finish overall & in class)
1 Thomas Lawless, IRL/Kristin Przybysz, US
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 2000, Kiss Construction
Lawless admitted that he was slowed on the first day by the fact that he was learning to use a new (6-speed)
transmission with a sequential selector and higher numerical ratios; on the second day, the higher gearing left him
flat-out in 6th too often over some of the long, straight stretches, which eventually caused engine failure, thought
to be a bearing failure.

[email protected] .
Robert Cella is a retired engineer, a radio operator at Rally New York events (www.RallyNewYork.com)
for many years and a great supporter of the sport of rallying and Rally New York events. This is the fifth Rally
New York event in a row when the competitors become the beneficiaries of Mr. Cella’s awe-inspiring
generosity.
In addition, teams from the Atlantic Division participating in the United States Rally Championship (USRC)
(www.usrallychampionship.com) will be competing for the total of $12,000 in subsidies to assist them with
traveling to the final round of the 2010 Championship Season at Prescott Rally in Prescott, Arizona on October

2010 Season. Each day of Rally New York USA is a separate event of New York Rally Championship.
In a related development, TreadZone (www.TreadZone.com), a Competition Tire Dealer has
announced that it will again provide at-event and pre-event rally tires services for Rally New York USA
competitors. The best news is that someone will win a $300 tire certificate provided by TreadZone in
cooperation with Toyo Tires for Rally New York USA competitors. The certificate will be awarded through a
lottery drawing.
Furthermore, TreadZone has announced that all 2010 Rally New York events have been added to
TreadZone Competition Tire Contingency Program. TreadZone has recently become the Eastern Distributor for
Yokohama rally tires and has both tarmac rally tires and gravel rally tires available. In addition, TreadZone is a
direct Dealer for Toyo, Michelin, BFG, Uniroyal and Goodyear tires.
Finally, a prize fund guarantees that each team finishing the Rally in top 30 percent of all finishers,
including at least one production car and one two-wheel-drive car, will win $200 in prize money.
The course of Rally New York USA 2010 is approximately 350 miles long with more than 90 miles of

MSI Announces their support for the 2010 United States Rally Championship !
It is with great pleasure today that an agreement has been reached with the United States Rally
Championship and MSI (Moore-Sport), a high end manufacturer supporting the motorsport community
worldwide.
“MSI has been associated with rallying for many years, and we have been fortunate enough to work with
organizations such as the USRC. We hope to build on our previous relationship with the USRC by
assisting the competitors financially in this unique series” says Mark Moore, owner of MSI.
MSI will offer cash rewards to be redeemed at their facility towards any number of competition products or
services to assist all competitors from 2 wheel drive VW, to open class EVO 9’s. Some of the parts and
suppliers available through MSI are DMS 5-way adjustable Suspension and Grease kits, Alcon clutches,
and racing discs, Powerflex bushings, Albins axles, ring & pinion sets, and dog boxes, Compomotive and
Speedline wheels, Goodridge flexible brake, fuel, and oil lines, ETS racing fuels, Ferodo Brake Pads,
RallyTech composite floor guards, wheel wells, door cards, and of course, MSI designed and
manufactured, suspension arms, uprights, and frames.
MSI will distribute a total of 1000$ MSI dollars per event to ALL competitors as follows:

5th - 25.00$
In addition to these payouts, there will be a 50$ check for the competitor that rose the most through the
starting order. (For example, if they were sitting 20th after engine troubles and they finished 1st, they rose
19 spots, or if they started 40th, and finished 10th, they rose 30 spots.)
MSI will give away 2 DMS 50mm grease kits at every event, and naturally offer discounts to any USRC
competitor:
-
20% discount on any purchase made before June 1st; 2010.
-
10% discount on all parts & spares for the remainder of the season.
When asked about the championship itself, MSI sees the USRC as a growing series, offering the chance
for international competitors to come and race on some of the most challenging, and diversified terrains in
North America. It is the only series that has over 200 competitors racing on Snow, Ice, Gravel, and
Tarmac conditions and has reconnaissance and pace notes similar to FIA / WRC events. MSI also added
“Hopefully our contingency program will pave the way for other manufactures to enter into the series and
increase registration numbers even more. We hope to be able to increase our own line of items, and
welcome competitors to approach us with their own ideas that they wish to see manufactured or tested.”

Walton, New York – Monticello, New York
Author: Rally New York Media
Forestburgh, New York (January 16, 2010) Earlier this week, the Town Council of Walton,
New York approved the special use road permits for the 2010 edition of Rally New York USA.
Together with the three-year contract with the Town of Thompson that encompasses the Village of
Monticello, Rally New York, Ltd. has road permits for the event in place.
Rally New York USA, a two-day tarmac rally, is unique in that it is the only National
Championship event in North America that is run entirely on tarmac roads. Ken Block and Alex
Gelsomino won Rally New York USA in two previous years. Ken Block recently announced the
formation of Monster World Rally Team and its participation in the 2010 World Rally Championship.
2010 Rally New York USA will be entirely based and headquartered in Walton, New York. The
rally is a round of the United States Rally Championship (www.usrallychampionship.com) and allows
full reconnaissance of the rally route and pace notes. Each of the two days is a separate round of
New York Rally Championship (http://www.rallynewyork.net/nyrc.htm).
The program is as follows:
Thursday, April 15 – afternoon/ evening: Registration and scrutineering of competition vehicles
Friday, April 16 – morning: Reconnaissance of special stages in Walton
Friday, April 16 – afternoon / evening: Reconnaissance of special stages in Monticello,
Ceremonial Start at Sullivan County Center in Monticello, racing at Concord Resort in
Monticello, return to Walton in the evening
Saturday, April 17 – all day: Restart in Walton, racing in Walton, Ceremonial Finish at
Delaware County Fairgrounds in Walton, post-event party and dinner in Walton
Sunday, April 18 – morning: Awards Ceremony
Rally New York, Ltd. is headquartered in Forestburgh, New York located ninety miles
northwest of New York City in spectacular southern Catskill Mountains of Sullivan County. It is
dedicated to furthering the sport of stage rallying in the United States.
The United States Rally Championship will continue its bold steps to make national
competition in 2010 more affordable and accessible to a larger number of rally teams. The
Championship structure minimizes or, for many teams, eliminates the need for repeated cross-country
travel during the Championship season by providing competition on each side of the country. The final
round of the Championship at the end of the year counts both in the Atlantic Division and the Pacific
Division and together with the results from all previous rounds decides the top spots in the
Championship. As a result, 207 competitors, drivers and co-drivers, participated during the 2009
USRC season, nearly twice as many as in any other championship series in North America.
Atlantic Division teams will be again competing for coveted cash travel subsidies that will be
awarded to top six teams in the Division. The total of $12,000 in subsidies will be distributed to
Atlantic Division teams to assist them with travelling to the final round of the 2010 United States Rally
Championship in Prescott, Arizona.
The Championship season consists of a combination of snow, gravel and tarmac events.
Rallies in the United States Rally Championship allow for reconnaissance and pace notes. Tarmac
events, full reconnaissance and pace notes make the United States Rally Championship unique in
North America as no other series in North America encompasses all these features.

Forestburgh, New York (November 19, 2009) The New York Rally Championship (NYRC)
(www.rallynewyork.net/nyrc.htm) is proud to announce its Champions for the 2009 Season. New York
and the Northeast of the United States are the home of many rally teams. The New York Rally
Championship gives these teams the opportunity to take part in a meaningful local Regional
Championship without traveling to distant locations.
The 2009 NYRC Champions are as follows:
The New York Rally Championship will honor its Champions at the annual “Night of
Champions” on December 5th. The Champions will be awarded Thunder 102 Cup newly introduced
for the 2009 Season.

Rally New York, Ltd., promoter of New York Rally Championship has announced the following
Calendar of Events for the 2010 New York Rally Championship:
Competitors will be able to count up to six best results toward the 2010 New York Rally
Championship. With eight events on the Calendar, competitors will no longer be able to improve their
best scores by counting any out-of-the-area events. In order to be insured under the Rally New York
Motorsport Insurance Plan, competitors will purchase a Rally New York competition license for a
nominal fee of $50, valid for the calendar year, with no additional membership fee. Visiting foreign
competitors may use their licenses with a letter of approval from the entity that issued the license.
Rally New York, Ltd. is headquartered in Forestburgh, New York located ninety miles
northwest of New York City in spectacular southern Catskill Mountains of Sullivan County. It is
dedicated to furthering the sport of stage rallying in the United States.
The two-day rallies organized by Rally New York, Ltd. are events of the United States Rally
Championship (www.usrallychampionship.com). Since the 2004 season, Rally New York events have
been the only rallies in the United States that have consistently allowed full reconnaissance of the
rally route by competitors before the event as well as pace notes. Rally New York USA in April 2006
was the first ever all-tarmac National Championship rally in the United States. All Rally New York
events are conducted according to the international rally regulations.

Lawless/Sharkey Win International Rally New York
Author: Thomas Barker, Chief Publicity Officer, International Rally New York
For Immediate Release, October 24, 2009
Tom Lawless, the 2005 United States Rally Champion, with the Irish codriver Brian Sharkey (Mitsubishi
Lancer Evo 9), emerged as the winners of the International Rally New York 2009, a two-day test where
the result was in doubt until almost the final mile.
Going into the second day, an accomplished Finnish crew of Jani Paasonen/Mika Rajasalo (Subaru
Impreza), had a lead of 43 seconds. With a competitive car and more experience than their rivals, United
States Rally Championship (USRC) regulars assumed that the visiting Finnish team would be able to
cruise to a victory. At the time, Lawless/Sharkey were second, 43 seconds behind, despite a bit of
turbocharger and fuel pump trouble on the first day. Seamus Burke/John Buffum were third, but would
soon withdraw from the rally due to a head gasket failure.
And then the momentum of the event went the other way: Paasonen’s car broke an axle during the final
morning, which slowed Paasonen enough to allow Lawless a 13-second lead. Paasonen responded by
taking back seconds on each special stage – despite heavy rain, mud, and deep puddles which limited his
and everyone else’s speed. The margin was down to about three seconds at lunch time. But as Paasonen
should have surged ahead on the final two or three stages, the Subaru broke a differential.
Paasonen/Rajasalo decided to pace themselves and finish, falling to 1 minute and 17 seconds behind the
winners.
Martin Donnelly/Stephen Duffy (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) placed third. They were far enough behind the
leaders, 6-3/4 minutes, that Donnelly joked afterward that they became spectators in the rally. United
States Rally Championship hopefuls Daniel O’Brien and Brendan McCabe finished under Super Rally
rules. This was not enough to secure the Championship title. Keith Jackson/Marra Estep (Subaru
Impreza) took fourth, garnering enough points to wrap up the United States Rally Championship in the
All-Wheel-Drive category. Shawn and Jennifer Hudspeth (Mitsubishi Eclipse) placed fifth overall and
secured the USRC All-Wheel-Drive Production Cup for the season. Both teams traveled to the final round
of the 2009 USRC season in New York from California.
Like the overall victory, the Two-Wheel-Drive win was not settled until late in the rally. United States
Rally Championship contenders Josh & Jeremy Wimpey (Volkswagen Golf Mark 2) and Dan
Brosnan/Shane McCann (Nissan Sentra) both suffered mechanical breakages on the first day, broken
suspension and steering, respectively. Likewise, the very rapid Ken Block/Alex Gelsomino (Ford Escort
Mark 2) were stopped by a broken differential. And so, in the heavy rains of the final afternoon, Wojtek
“Al” Kulpa/Adam Pelc (Volkswagen Golf Mark 3) raced with the father-son team of Simon & Kieran
Wright (Ford Focus ZX3). Kulpa/Pelc reached the final control with an advantage of 39 seconds for the
trophy.
Dan Brosnan and Shane McCann finished under the Super Rally rules, which was enough for them to
secure the United States Rally Championship in the Two-Wheel-Drive category. It might have been a
golden opportunity for the up-and-coming team of Michael Reilly/Josh Benthien (Ford Focus SVT), but
they were delayed by an off-course excursion while leading the Two-Wheel-Drive classification. In the
end, they finished tenth overall and won the 2009 USRC Two-Wheel-Drive Production Cup.

October 23 – 24, 2009
Author: Rally New York Media
Forestburgh, New York (October 16, 2009) A noted Finnish rally driver Jani Paasonen with
codriver Mika Rajasalo have entered the International Rally New York. This motorsport
competition will take place this coming week in the beautiful southern Catskill Mountains of
New York, merely ninety miles northwest of New York City.
The two-day International Rally New York 2009 (www.RallyNewYork.com) with more
than 100 miles of special stages is the final round of the United States Rally Championship
(www.usrallychampionship.com). Each day is a separate round of the New York Rally
Championship.
Jani Paasonen started his rallying carrier in 1995 and placed second in the Finnish
Junior National Championship the following year. In the 2000 season, he won Group N in
Sweden and also in Finland and became the Finnish National Champion in the category.
Jani’s most successful year was 2004 when he won Swedish Rally dominating Group N
category and winning 13 out of 19 stages. His greatest success came at Rally Finland where
he took the six place in a factory Skoda Fabia World Rally Car, the best World Rally
Championship result for the Fabia World Rally Car ever and also Paasonen’s personal best
result at this level.
Lately, Jani has been competing in the European Rallycross Championship. His
manager is Jouni Kunnas. Jani is also the owner and instructor at the DriveX rally school
(www.drivex.fi).
Mika Rajasalo started rallying in 1993 with his brother and in 1995 they won the
Finnish Junior National Championship. This will be Mika’s first appearance with Jani
Paasonen. “I am thrilled at the opportunity to participate in the International Rally New York. I
have been several times in the US, but never before in a rally event. From what I have seen
on the Internet, the roads are quite different from what I am used to. It will surely be an
exciting experience” says Mika.
The main sponsor of Paasonen’s and Rajasolo’s drive at the International Rally New
York 2009 is NCRALLY, a racing division of North Coast Subaru. Other sponsors are
WordDive (www.worddive.com), a language-learning software, and Robert Cella, a retired
metallurgist, a rally enthusiast and a Rally New York radio operator.
The team is managed in the United States by North Coast Subaru with Otis Dimiters
as the team manager. The North Coast Subaru Corporation has been serving the tristate
area for over 30 years. The racing division of the dealership, NCRALLY (www.ncrally.com),
specializes in Subaru performance, rally car preparation and event support.
Sponsorship for Competitors in the International Rally New York 2009
Forestburgh, New York (October 13, 2009) Robert Cella has announced his selection of drivers whose
entry he is sponsoring at the International Rally New York to be held in Narrowsburg and Callicoon in Sullivan
County, New York on October 21 – 24, 2009. The selected drivers are:
- Thomas Barton and Matt Gottlieb, local Sullivan County rally drivers
- Robert Martai, a local rally driver from New Jersey with previous experience from Hungary
- Jani Passonen, a former Finnish Rally Champion and participant in World Rally Championship
Robert Cella is a retired engineer, a radio operator at Rally New York events (www.RallyNewYork.com)
for many years and a great supporter of the sport of rallying and Rally New York events. This is the third Rally
New York event in a row when the competitors become the beneficiaries of Mr. Cella’s awe-inspiring
generosity.
In addition, the total of $12,000 in subsidies will be distributed to the teams from the Pacific Division of
the United States Rally Championship (www.usrallychampionship.com) to assist them with traveling to the final
round of the United States Rally Championship in New York - the International Rally New York 2009.
Finally, a prize fund guarantees that each team finishing the Rally in top 30 percent of all finishers,
including at least one production car and one two-wheel-drive car, will win $200 in prize money.
The course of the International Rally New York 2009 is approximately 300 miles long with more than
100 miles of special stages. At the conclusion on Sunday morning, the United States Rally Championship will
hold its annual Year-End Awards ceremony and will award separate National Championship titles in the TwoWheel-Drive Championship and in the All-Wheel-Drive Championship, and declare Production Cup Champions
in both categories. Each day of the Rally is a separate round of the New York Rally Championship
(www.RallyNewYork.com) that will hold its own annual Awards in the New York City area in December.
The Rally takes place in the spectacular southern Catskill Mountains of New York only 90 miles
northwest of New York City. The event is headquartered at the modern Villa Roma Resort. All racing will take
place on the 12,500-acre Ten Mile River Scout Reservation on new, purpose-built and refurbished stage roads.
The Ceremonial Start is at Villa Roma in Callicoon, NY on Thursday evening. The Rally ends with the Ceremonial
Finish at Keowa Rally Village in Narrowsburg, NY on Saturday night.
Hundreds of participants, spectators and fans will gather for two days at the exciting Keowa Rally
Village on the Ten Mile River Scout Reservation. The Keowa Rally Village includes a Spectator Area with
spectator parking, food, lodging and camping, a Service Park with a Vendor Area next to it, and the Rally
Control. During the two days of racing, a number of special stages will pass by the Spectator Area both in the
morning and in the afternoon. Several special stages start or finish at the Keowa Rally Village.
The United States Rally Championship is taking bold steps to make national competition more
affordable and accessible to a larger number of rally teams. This is the third season of the new Championship
structure that minimizes or, for many teams, eliminates the need for repeated cross-country travel during the
Championship season by providing competition on each side of the country. The final round of the
Championship at the end of the year counts both in the Atlantic Division and the Pacific Division and together
with the results from all previous rounds decides the top spots in the Championship.

Saturday, April 4, 2009, 10:24 pm (Rally New York Media):
Ken Block/Alex Gelsomino (Subaru Impreza WRX) have once again proved that they are the
masters of the roads in New York's Catskill Mountains. The two Californians won Rally New York USA
for the second year in a row. The Subaru Rally Team USA duo took the lead on the first of 23
special stages and were never overtaken. Their lead when they reached the finish line in Walton, New
York was over a minute.
The weather in the Catskills was hardly Spring-like, whatever the calendar may have said.
Friday's leg featured cool weather and light to moderate rain. Saturday's leg had near-freezing
temperatures, with alternating light rain and snow flurries. It was not ideal for vacations (in what is a
resort area), but the rally competitors and service crews took it in stride.
Otis Dimiters/Dominik Jozwiak (Subaru Impreza) were second most of the way and finished in
the runner-up position. Dimiters admitted to two spins in the slippery conditions, but otherwise the
event went smoothly for them.
Former winners Seamus Burke/Eddie Fries (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) placed third. The team lost
time on Friday due to contact with a guard rail at speed, but recovered and put in a clean drive over the
remaining miles.
Dan Brosnan/Shane McCann (Nissan Sentra) won the two-wheel-drive category. They were
contesting the 2WD trophy with Andrew Havas/Aaron Crescenti (Mazda RX-7), but a slip-up put
Havas/Crescenti into a ditch and out of the event.
Note: Rally New York USA is the opening round of the U.S. Rally Championship. Each day's event
is also scored as a round of the regional New York Rally Championship.
Rally New York USA 2009 has named three Delaware County,
New York special stages to Honor the Memory of Ham Radio Volunteer
Steve Bogart, N2UZV.
Steve passed away suddenly on February 1, 2009. He was an extremely dedicated long term Radio Operator
volunteer at many Rally New York events. Steve was a big guy who often worked with Ed Jackson as a mobile
operator in one of the course safety cars. When he was not doing that, you could find him helping Olga at a time
control. One thing Steve was never without at the Rallies was his great big smile! He will be missed by all his
fellow Radio Operators and Marshal volunteers as well as the competitors and crews.
Aside from Rally, Steve was a very active volunteer with Ham Radio groups providing Safety and Emergency
Communications for many different disasters and Public Service events in the Hudson Valley. As an active
member in his local Fire Company, Steve served both as a volunteer and a commissioner.
We should all be thankful that we had the opportunity to know and work together with Steve Bogart. With his
passing we have all lost a good friend and volunteer.
So, on Saturday afternoon, April 4th , when you are out working or competing on the Steve Bogart Special
Stages please remember Steve, N2UZV and how much he contributed to our sport!

The 2009 Rally New York USA will take place on April 3 – 4, 2009, which is two

International Rally New York - Seamus and Joseph Burke 1-2
Author: Thomas Barker, Chief Publicity Officer, International Rally New York
Saturday, Nov. 1 – Callicoon, New York – Seamus Burke/Eddie Fries (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo)
have won International Rally New York for the second year running. For this former national
champion team, this comes at the end of a season of mechanical difficulties.
At the finish, Burke/Fries were three minutes ahead of Seamus’ son Joseph Burke and co-driver
Ole Holter (Subaru Impreza WRX). Holter noted at the finish, that this was only the younger
Burke’s second outing in a powerful turbocharged, all-wheel-drive car – and in the first he won
the Black River Stages Rally in Upstate New York.
Celsus Donnelly/Barry Smyth (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) had been a solid second for most of the
rally. But with two special stages remaining, the car engine failed, apparently due to head gasket
failure.
Brian Scott/John Dillon (Subaru Impreza WRX) finished third, after a cool performance in which
they went just fast enough for a top finish – sufficient to take the all-wheel-drive category title in
the United States Rally Championship.
The two-wheel-drive (2WD) category in the rally was taken by the husband-wife team of
Kristopher and Christine Marciniak (Dodge Neon), who also won the 2WD division of the
United States Rally Championship. They were followed to the finish by Dan Brosnan/Shane
McCann (Nissan Sentra) and the father-son team of Simon and Kieran Wright (Ford Focus).
Hampton Bridwell/Josh Katinger (Ford Focus SVT) were in contention with
Marciniak/Marciniak early in the rally, for both the 2WD win and championship. But when the
Ford slid off the road on the first day, the team was forced to “play catch-up.” They were closing
on the leaders again when they rolled the car – without harm to themselves, but it put them out of
the rally.
This was the largest entry field at a National Championship rally this season. The competition
both in all-wheel-drive and two-wheel drive was very close among the large number of
contenders in both categories as evidenced by stage times.

abroad are on the entry list for the International Rally New York (www.RallyNewYork.com) on October 30
– November 1, 2008.
International Rally New York is the final round of the 2008 United States Rally Championship - USRC (www.usrallychampionship.com) with the Annual Championship Awards Ceremony. The rally consists of
93 miles of special stages. The total length of the two-day event is 360 miles. The highest-scoring six
teams from the USRC Pacific Division are eligible for the coveted cash travel subsidies totaling $12,000 to
attend the final round in New York. The event also encompasses two final rounds of the New York Rally
Championship (www.RallyNewYork.com).
Top teams from all over the country will compete for the titles of the United States Rally Champion in the
All-Wheel-Drive category and the United States Rally Champion in the Two-Wheel-Drive category. Newly
introduced USRC Production Cup will be awarded in the All-Wheel-Drive category and in the Two-WheelDrive category.
Notable entries are Thomas Lawless, the 2005 United States Rally Champion, with Irish co-driver Brian
Sharkey in a Mitsubishi Evo 9, the two-time (2006 and 2007) United States Rally Champion Seamus
Burke with Eddie Fries, the 2007 Champion Co-Driver, also in Mitsubishi Evo 9 and the 2006 United

and accessible to a larger number of rally teams. This is the second season of the new Championship
structure that minimizes or, for many teams, eliminates the need for repeated cross-country travel during
the Championship season by providing competition on each side of the country. The final round of the
Championship at the end of the year counts both in the Atlantic Division and the Pacific Division and
together with the results from all previous rounds decides the top spots in the Championship.
Rally New York organization also presents the Rally New York USA on April 17 - 18, 2009. This tarmac
event is the first round of the 2009 United States Rally Championship. All Rally New York events are
conducted according to the international rules with three-pass reconnaissance on Thursday and two days
of racing on Friday and Saturday. Most events in the United States Rally Championship allow for
reconnaissance of the rally course.
SPONSORSHIP TO BE AWARDED TO THREE TEAMS
ENTERING INTERNATIONAL RALLY NEW YORK
Author: Rally New York Media
Forestburgh, New York (October 1, 2008) A private sponsor will pay in full the entry fee for
three teams that will enter the International Rally New York on October 31, - November 1, 2008.
In order to qualify for the sponsorship, the driver of the team must be competing in his first or
second season of stage rallying. Any team with a driver who had never competed in a stage rally prior
to January 1, 2007 qualifies for the sponsorship with one exception: This sponsorship is not open to
teams that are eligible to share in the $12,000 subsidy offered by the United States Rally
Championship for participation in the final round of the Championship.
Interested teams are urged to submit their applications by e-mail directly to the sponsor at
[email protected] promptly by Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 12 noon. The application should state
the names of the driver and the co-driver, the car, the car class and all contact information, and must
describe the team’s qualifications. If more than three qualified teams apply for the sponsorship, the
sponsor will select three teams out of the pool of applicants.
The generous sponsor is Mr. Robert Cella, a retired engineer and a resident of Sullivan County,
New York. Robert is a HAM radio operator (AC2RC) and has been assisting Rally New York events for
some time. In addition, he is already sponsoring a young local driver Eric Hansen.
The regular entry for the International Rally New York ends on October 2 at 8:00 pm. The entry
will close on October 23. The International Rally New York (www.RallyNewYork.com) is the final round
of the United States Rally Championship. The all-gravel Rally will take place in the beautiful Catskill
Mountains during the autumn foliage merely 90 miles northwest of New York City. The Rally is
headquartered at Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, New York. The Ceremonial Start will take place at
Villa Roma Resort on Thursday, October 30 in the evening. The special stages are located in Sullivan,
Ulster and Delaware Counties of New York. The Super Special stage and the Ceremonial Finish will
take place at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Walton, New York on Saturday, November 1.
The United States Rally Championship (www.usrallychampionship.com) is the largest rally
championship in the United States with fifty percent more competitors than any other similar US rally
championship and includes both gravel and tarmac events. The United States Rally Championship
events are conducted according to the international rules. Most United States Rally Championship
events allow reconnaissance and pace notes.
The United States Rally Championship is taking bold steps to make national competition more
affordable and accessible to a larger number of rally teams. This is the second season of the new
Championship structure that minimizes or, for many teams, eliminates the need for repeated crosscountry travel during the Championship season by providing competition on each side of the country.
The final round of the Championship at the end of the year counts both in the Atlantic Division and the
Pacific Division and together with the results from all previous rounds decides the top spots in the
Championship.
The International Rally New York is also the final round of the New York Rally Championship
that provides meaningful regional competition for rally teams in the Northeast of the United States.

Block/Gelsomino Wrap Up Rally New York USA '08
Ellenville, NY — It was all smiles among Subaru Rally Team USA, as their team of Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino
(Subaru Impreza WRX STI) took first overall at Rally New York USA. At the end of nearly 400 miles of motoring, and 100
miles of high-speed special stages, the two Californians were over three minutes ahead of the NC Rally Team car of Otis
Dimiters/Dominik Jozwiak (Subaru Impreza WRX). Martin Donnelly/Stephen Duffy (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8) completed
the top three.
For Block/Gelsomino, it was a smooth performance -- the only glitch was a flat tire in the middle of the day today. On the
other hand, the car of Dimiters/Jozwiak suffered from various minor problems, ranging from a loose intercooler hose to a
lack of fuel pressure.
Several of the top competitors were sidelined by mechanical problems, particularly on the first day. Seamus Burke/Ole
Holter (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9) went out when the car's transmission stuck in fifth gear. Celsus Donnelly/Barry Smith
(Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8) suffered a broken front differential. Enda McCormack/Bernard Farrell (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6)
broke the rear output shaft in their car's four-wheel-drive system.
In the two-wheel-drive category, Bruce Davis/Jimmy Brandt (Dodge Neon SRT-4) were clear winners. Hampton
Bridwell/Josh Katinger (Ford Focus SVT) were second, over three minutes back, and were the best-placed Production 2WD
entry. Mark Lawrence/Robert Maciejski (Volkswagen Golf) had been expected to be among the top finishers, but withdrew
after an off-course excursion today.
The route of this opening event of the 2008 United States Rally Championship was entirely paved; rare for a performancetype auto rally in North America. The roads were wet on the first day from moderate rains, but drying on the second day due
to partly-sunny skies.

Wintish Road Special Stages Renamed After Sgt. Eddie Ryan,
A True American Hero
Author: Rally New York Media
Ellenville, New York (March 26, 2008) Rally New York organization received
permission from Ryan family to rename the Wintish Road special stages on the
2008 Rally New York USA after Sgt. Eddie Ryan, a true American hero and a
resident of Wintish Road in Ellenville, New York.
Sgt. Eddie Ryan is at home on Wintish Road recovering from severe, life
threatening injuries he suffered in Ramadi, Iraq. He was shot twice in the head
and the miracle marine survived the ordeal. Sgt. Ryan served in Iraq with the 3rd
Battalion, 2nd Marines from 2002 to 2005.
We are proud to honor this American hero who likes to watch rally cars going by
his home. Many drivers and co-drivers have made plans to stop in and visit Eddie
and his family during their stay in Ellenville. More about Sgt. Eddie Ryan story can
be found at http://www.hbo.com/aliveday/bios/ryan.html.

RALLY NEW YORK SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH NEVERSINK
AND OPENS ENTRY FOR RALLY NEW YORK USA
Author: Rally New York Media
Neversink, New York (February 15, 2008) Rally New York organization signed an
agreement with the Town of Neversink in Sullivan County New York, which makes
available new special stages within the Town of Neversink, and opened the entry
for Rally New York USA to be held on April 4 – 5, 2008. The entries for Rally New
York USA have already started coming in (www.RallyNewYork.com).
This development comes on the heels of the three-year contract Rally New York
organization signed with the Town of Wawarsing for the roads in the
Wawarsing/Ellenville area of Ulster County, New York with a new special stage in
the area of the historic Mt. Cathalia hillclimb and with the Town of Thompson in
Sullivan County, New York that covers the spectacular special stage at the
Concord Resort in Monticello.
In a related development, Ellenville Regional Hospital received a donation from
Rally New York in appreciation of the community support for Rally New York
events.
Rally New York USA on April 4 – 5 is the first round of the United States Rally
Championship (www.usrallychampionship.com). It is an all-tarmac event. Tarmac
rallies, which are popular elsewhere, are rather rare in the US. The United States
Rally Championship Competitors have the opportunity to participate in two tarmac
events in two successive months – Rally New York USA in April and Rally
Tennessee in May – with the same tarmac equipment. These two rallies are the
only all-tarmac events in the Nation. Competitors from the western part of the
Unites States may be able to make one trip to the East to participate in both
events. Rally New York would store their vehicles for the second event.
Rally New York organization also presents the International Rally New York on
October 31 – November 1, 2008. It is a gravel event that is the final round of the
United States Rally Championship. All Rally New York events are conducted
according to the international rules with three-pass reconnaissance on Thursday
and two days of racing on Friday and Saturday.
ELLENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL RECEIVES DONATION FROM
RALLY NEW YORK
Author: Rally New York Media
Ellenville, NY (February 11, 2008) On Monday afternoon February 11, 2008 the Rally New York
Ltd. organization (www.RallyNewYork.com) presented a donation check in the amount of $500 to
Steven Kelly, President & Chief Executive Officer of Ellenville Regional Hospital. The
presentation was made by Ivan Orisek, President of Rally New York Ltd. Orisek said “Rally New
York enjoys being a part of such a wonderful community as Ellenville/Wawarsing, many have
welcomed us with open arms and we look forward to a long relationship with the area”. Also in
attendance was Rich Otis, Deputy Clerk of the Course - Rally Control and a Local Liaison for
Rally New York events. Mr. Kelly said “we sure hope none of the racers needs our services, but
we’re here if they do”.
Rally New York Ltd. presents two rounds of the United States Rally Championship
(www.usrallychampionship.com) each year. The next, Rally New York USA will take place on
April 4 – 5, 2008. International Rally New York in September 2007 was the first event in the
Ellenville/Wawarsing. It was such a success the organization has entered into a three year contract
with the Town of Wawarsing for two events per year.
Rally racing is the most popular motor sport in many parts of the world and is growing in
popularity in the US. Regular cars, typically small sedans modified for safety and performance,
race against the clock (not wheel to wheel) in a test of speed and endurance on sections of public
roads that are closed by permit to regular traffic for a short period of time. Rally New York is
proud to say that they have an impeccable safety record and take great care to minimize any
inconvenience to residents. Rally events have a positive economic impact in areas in which they
are held as they bring hundreds of visitors, competitors and officials who stay for up to four days.

UNITED STATES RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES ITS FOURTH SEASON AND
2008 CALENDAR
Author: USRC Media
(November 29, 2007) The 2008 United States Rally Championship (USRC) continues to make bold steps
toward more affordable national competition that is accessible to a larger number of rally teams. In an
effort started with the 2007 USRC season, the Championship structure minimizes or, for many teams,
eliminates the need for cross-country travel by providing competition on each side of the country.
Michael Taylor, USRC President said the following: “We realized that fewer and fewer teams can
afford towing back and forth across the country. A meaningful National Championship needed to embrace
the reality that most of our top competitors are professional and trades people who have been excluded
from serious consideration in previous championship formats due to the time or financial demands of
cross-country travel. With our new format, that has all changed. As a result, 312 competitors participated
in the 2007 United States Rally Championship.”
The United States Rally Championship (USRC) is owned and operated by United States Rally
Championship, Inc. In order to give teams competing in two-wheel drive cars more visibility, the USRC
introduced separate All-Wheel Drive Championship and Two-Wheel Drive Championship.
The International Rally New York will be the seventh and the final round of the 2008 Championship
and will be followed by the year-end Championship Awards ceremony.
Similarly to the 2007 season when the six top teams from the Atlantic Division received subsidy to
attend the final round in the West, the Championship will subsidize travel costs for six teams from the
Pacific Division – three top teams in the All-Wheel Drive Championship and three top teams in the TwoWheel Drive Championship - to travel to New York.
Every team from the Atlantic Division as well as the Pacific Division will be invited to the final round
in New York to compete for the top Championship positions. Each team may count four scores toward the
Championship - their three best scores achieved prior to the final round plus the score from the final
round. At least two of the three best scores must be from the team’s home Division. In order to
accommodate conflicts in personal schedules and other limitations experienced by individual teams, each
team may substitute a single out-of-the-Division event for an event in the team’s home Division prior to the
final round. All Championship events will have the same weight and will award the same number of
Championship points. Further details of scoring will be published soon.

The USRC is the only National Championship in the United States that offers a combination of
gravel and tarmac rallies with most events allowing full reconnaissance and pace notes. In addition, most
USRC rallies are conducted under Super Rally Regulations, allowing teams to restart on day-two after a
day-one DNF.
Recognizing the need to minimize the cost to competitors, the Championship will make every effort
to keep the length of each Championship event to the maximum of two days including reconnaissance.
