renaissance - The California Society of Periodontists
A
renaissance
in periodontics
Dear friends and colleagues:
On behalf of the California Society of Periodontists, I would like to personally invite you
and your referring doctors to attend the 2016 Annual Meeting which will be held in the
picturesque ocean side community of Santa Barbara from Friday May 20th - Sunday May
22nd, 2016.
This is a unique meeting in CSP history, designed to help promote the team approach to
dentistry. It will provide you and your referrals the opportunity to learn together, enhance
the quality of care delivered to your mutual patients and improve your overall relationship.
We ask that you bring your referring doctors to the conference and we promise that you will
see immediate professional and personal growth. Special group rates are available.
The theme of our meeting is “A Renaissance in Periodontics” and will highlight periodontal
techniques to enhance restorative dentistry, tissue engineering and regeneration, current
procedures in peri-implantitis treatment, full arch fixed immediate load implant therapy,
controversies regarding laser periodontal and peri-implant therapy, and much more. The
goal of the conference is to educate ourselves on the latest techniques and materials, but
more importantly our referrals, in order to show them what we do best as periodontists, and
to help promote our role within the restorative team.
The 2016 main podium speakers on Saturday and Sunday will include nationally and
internationally recognized Periodontists, as well as a Prosthodontist. These include Drs.
Bobby Butler, Don Clem, George Duello, Richard Kao, Sam Low, Chris Marchack, and Ray
Yukna.
A full day program on anesthesia is also available for the first time in years, given by Drs.
Michael Mashni and Christine Quinn on Friday May 20th. An update on moderate sedation
will be presented along with emergency management procedures which will help fulfill the
California CE requirement for conscious sedation permit holders.
In addition, a parallel podium program will be offered on Sunday, addressing the needs
of the young periodontist who are vital to the growth and maintenance of our specialty.
Dr. Sarvi Angha will discuss the pros and cons of various practice models. Dr. Pat Huston
will discuss his experience with the traveling periodontist model and contrast this with
his recent entry into conventional private practice. Dr. Lee Maddox will discuss the legal,
financial and accounting issues in private practice that all periodontists should know.
As usual, our exhibit hall will be filled with plenty of vendors to show you the latest and
greatest products that can enhance your practices and patient care.
We hope to see you all of you in Santa Barbara! We promise you an exciting program that
will be well worth your time and investment!
Sincerely,
Nick Caplanis DMD MS

Maximizing Restorative
Outcomes through
Periodontal Therapy
Optimal restorative results are dependent
on multiple factors. Restorative issues
such as shade, form and function are
not a success without esthetic gingival
contours. This lecture will discuss
periodontal and implant procedures that
enhance restorative outcomes.
This course will familiarize the clinician
with different types of lasers, laser
physics, and laser-tissue interaction.
Periodontal procedures utilizing lasers
will include treatment of periodontitis
and peri-implantitis.
Bobby Butler, DDS
Dr. Butler is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
He has lectured extensively on implant aesthetics, periodontal
aesthetics, non-surgical perio therapy to digital imaging in clinical
practice. Dr. Butler served as an Affiliate Clinical Faculty member
at U of WA.
Raymond A. Yukna, DMD, MS
Dr. Yukna is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology
and the American Board of Oral Medicine. He is Professor
Emeritus at LSUSD and Professor of Advanced Periodontal
Therapies at the UCSD. He also has a part-time practice in
Parker, CO.
Utilizing the Er, Cr: YSGG
Laser Wavelength as an
Adjunct in Managing
Periodontitis and Periimplant Disease
Erbium lasers have uniqueness in being an
“all” tissue laser. A rationale for utilizing
the erbium wavelength will be presented
demonstrating comparable results to other
modalities including positive patient
outcomes.
Samuel Low, DDS
Dr. Low is Professor Emeritus, University of Florida. He is an
Associate faculty member of the Pankey Institute with 30 years
of private practice experience in Periodontics, lasers and implant
