Message from Chairman
I am providential enough to express my heart-felt contentment, that the Alumni Association
of Haldia Institute of Technology is organizing the fifth reunion 'PHIRE DEKHA -2014' on
22nd February, 2014.
It is a great honor for me to put across to you about most coveted dream and much esteemed
Haldia Institute of Technology which has proven and unfurled itself as one of the pioneer
technical institute over the nation. Germinated from a nutshell of three departments with
minuscule 90 students as its credential in the year 1996, the institute has thrived to offer 12
UG and 7 PG programmes with more than twelve hundred magnificent intakes per year.
Engineering graduates from HIT are doing well both in India and abroad. So far, almost all
the students passing out from the institute are well placed in various sectors including
software and core engineering.
This event will surely provide a platform for interacting with each other and exchange the
professional views in various emerging areas along with the nostalgic feelings in order to
evolve a homogeneous professional commitment with utmost love and respect for our beloved institute. I am sure that this commitment would certainly help to flourish in future
days that would ultimately bring name, fame and respect of professionals both at home and
abroad.
I wish all success for the Reunion.

Message from the Director
It gives me great pleasure to address you on this auspicious occasion of our alumni
reunion. A day like this is very important as it will give us the opportunity to meet
with many of our graduates after a long time. The alumni are able to meet each
other, their former faculties and other staff. It also enables the alumni to familiarize
themselves with the developments at the alma mater.
I do hope that the experiences of the day will be worth the sacrifice you have made.
A decade ago, ours was a tiny, struggling organization. Today, our students and scholars cover the
globe in their search for knowledge and meaning, and their contributions make a difference everywhere.
As alumni who truly love and faithfully support this great institution, I know you share my pride in
what we are doing and where we plan to go.
In recent years HIT has steadily been building our capacity to create a truly great institute. In my view,
greatness requires four things: wonderful students enjoying a tremendous student experience; very
successful faculty; a supportive campus learning environment; and substantial financial resources.
The fame of any institution becomes stronger and stronger year after with the progressive contributions
made by its students. The institution will stand the test of time and grows into eternity by its
achievements in every sphere of the academics and the allied fields of knowledge inputs. Analytical
frame of mind, objective thinking, perseverance of mind and the pivotal place the students of this
institution occupy alone make it glow like a pole star. The students who enter year after year the portal
of the institution should carve a niche of their own with cherishable memories and everlasting faith in
the almamater that shapes their career. Such has been the lofty ideals into which the institution has
been built and thus come to occupy an academic beacon light status.
A living institution makes an impact on everything it touches on the minds and dreams and characters
of students, on the world of ideas and their practical application as we transfer knowledge and
innovations to the world beyond our campus, and on the communities with which we engage, locally
and around the globe. As we inspire our students, sometimes they repay us in full measure.
I would like to reiterate the role you play in the wider society. Most of you hold key positions of
influence. I would appreciate to see that you use the influence to direct the development of our society
positively. You should always endeavor to uphold good morals and act as an inspiration to the society.
I want to thank all of you for the amazing support you have always extended to the alma mater.
Thank you.

I am extremely pleased to know that the alumni team of Haldia Institute of
Technology is publishing the Souvenir “Phire Dekha - 2014”. The alumni are
the strengthening pillars of an Institute. There are huge challenges in today’s highly
competitive world and we have to ensure that we are ready for that. The mark of
an Institute lies in the quality of values and it delivers to the rest of the world.
These values must always be solid, social, professional and positive. That is what
we are looking for and that is why you have come to the right place at Haldia
Institute of Technology - “Phire Dekha - 2014”.
I expect that this will prove to be a mega event where the alumni from the field of
technology and management will interact with each other and share their views
for future development and revisit their old memories during the meet. All of
these activities connect alumni from across the entire generational continuum
with those who can learn from their experiences .We truly are one big, happy
extended family.
With that in mind, thanks for another successful home coming weekend . As the
Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a
single step”. You have taken that step already.
I, on behalf of Haldia Institute of Technology, extend my heartiest congratulations
to the organizers and best wishes for successful organization of the event.

Welcome to re-visit the "PHIRE DEKHA -2014", an Alumni Association presentation of our beloved
Institute - HALDIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY. The Latin term alumni means - "former
students". The Muslim world calls "ulama" or "uluma". It's the reunion or phire dekha (in Bengali)
of the extended HIT-family members of past and present students, faculty, and staff. We believe all
members of our HIT- community have a place on the continuum linking our Institute to the society
around us. Every one of HIT-family has a crucial role to pay, as we move on in life in continuing
pursuit of our aspirations.
We, the valued stakeholders of this Institute, in order to keep alive a sentiment of affection of our
Alma Mater, unite the graduates of successive years by a common tie of fellowship, fostering the
feelings of friendship and love toward each other, promote the welfare of the Institute. This Alumni
meet will help current students build long-lasting relationships with the past students.
During last sixteen years, since its inception in 1996, HIT has produced numerous distinguish
academician, scientist, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, technocrat and managers who collectively
have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Our Alma Maters are our ambassador. They are holding
responsible positions in IITs, NITs, top-ranked US / UK universities, Govt. premier establishments
like BARC, DRDO, ISRO, IAF, IOC, ONGC, DVC, NTPC, SAIL, etc. as well as national and
international private industry houses like Aviation & Aerospace Industry, UK; ABB, TCS, INFOSYS,
WIPRO, CTS, GE, L&T, DCPL, BOC, HPL, TATA Chemical, TATA Steel etc. The HIT Alumni
Association brings all these outstanding people together on a single platform. This collective excellence
is our contribution to the growing generation, the Institute and the society as a whole. Engage, energize
and enhance - keeping these mottos in our mind; we seamlessly connect with the Institute, faculty,
students and fellow alumni. The HIT Alumni Association also aims to develop synergistic plans to
support the institution and achieve its vision, and to enable the institute to add value to all its
stakeholders.
I am always quite eager when I have the opportunity to see how the education and life experience
gained by our students, while at HIT, has assisted them in their endeavors since they graduated. In a
larger sense, I want to know how the education that you have received here, have helped you to
engage, interpret and act in the world around you. I am hopeful, the life experiences that you underwent
during your under-graduate careers, contributed greatly to the development of your character, spurned
you onto a greater level of independence and ultimately prepared you to deal with life's twists and
turns. The relationships that you developed throughout this process will forever be united by this
bond of change that marks such an important period in your lives. I am quite sure, our past students
will cherish and would continue to cherish every moment of their joy, happiness and sorrows in the
workshops, labs, class-rooms, cafeteria, play grounds, gymnasium, and the hostels of HIT campus.
In the path of continuous progress and development, our beloved Institute needs the voluntary service
from our alumnus in the form of "give back policy to the Institute". It may be in various forms - like
assisting fund or equipment donation for the facilities of emerging research, sharing human resources
for arranging seminars, workshops of frontier technological thrust areas, enhancing alumni network
within the institute. The better student interaction with the veteran alumni provides the existing students
with better career guidance and helps them make decisions in their future endeavors. The alumnus
platform also provides a global platform for exchanging ideas, unleashing creativity, indulging nostalgia
and above all, binding alumni together.
I am very much sure that this Institute is a very special place in our mind - individually, and collectively.
We alongwith our beloved alumnus, are the measure of the success and the foundation of the future of
our Institute. My dear alumnus, take a moment right now to look around at your fellow graduates near
by you. Think back over the times and the experiences you've shared with them over the past four or
more years.
My dear old fiends, beyond your day-to-day official assignments, open your eyes - look within. Are
you satisfied with the life you're living or cherished? Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.
Live the life you have imagined. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.
The truth is you never know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is
guaranteed.
Remember; life is a song - sing it. Life is a challenge - meet it. Life is a dream - realize it. Life
is a sacrifice - offer it. Can you recall the lines of George Bernard Shaw: "A life spent making mistakes
is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing".
My greetings for all HIT-ian! My love, my affection, my blessings are with you for ever.
Thank you all ALUMNUS, on the occasion of "PHIRE DEKHA - 2014"!!

Oh! Tough ask! Thought these people (organizing committee members of HIT reunion 2014)
at least for now behave as colleagues and avoid me, but I'm surprised to find they still
behave as my student and are so nagging. May be it's a fault in my part that I can't say NO to
my students. So, here I'm again, under tremendous pressure from HIT Alumni, having to
break the shell that I have so carefully built around myself, having to write something 'nontechnical'. I hate writing these so called 'articles' or 'messages'. They compel you to be
imaginative, pull out your softer senses that you so careful are hiding, expose your creative
(in) abilities to others, land your in a situation where your writing can be highly criticized,
make you break free form your comfort (lazy) zone, force you to think & do something out
of the way, make your mind work hard to find words from your heart. Oh, I hate this! But as
usual, I can be blamed for being pro-student. Knowing that this is for students coming for
Reunion 2014, I could not help but waste my evening in trying to complete each sentence of
this. Personally I don't like reunion at HIT because seeing & meeting the old students makes
me feel sad. I miss those good old days, so much of fun, such lively & naughty days. I really
miss those days & don't want to remember. It makes me realize how I have grown old &
even if I like or even if I want to, I can't go back to those days. Every year one batch of
students whom I nurtured & cared about for 4 long years pass-out, but I have to stay back,
carrying their legacy & memories. This is the worst part of this profession. Imagine how
wonderful it would have been if we need not have to part after 4 years. What great strength
we would have been of if all students since 1996 were still together! I sincerely hope Reunion
2014 spreads the notion of togetherness among all family members of HIT. Whether we like
it or not, HIT will always stay with our life like a stain of spilled tea on a white shirt. We
love HIT as the way she is with all her short comings, as parents love their even naughtiest
child. Let us be proud to be an 'HITian'.
Take care ……………..

While it is desirable to look forward, it is fruitful at times to look in the rear
mirror. Reunion is a confluence of the past and the present, of the alumni and
the current generation of teachers and students. It unifies the experience and
legacy of the alumni with the energy and exuberance of the present students.
In today's competitive world, career success bears multi-dimensional criteria,
vital among which is networking with peers. The alumni meet provides a rare
opportunity to hone this skill. I wish this event a great success.

Hitans are combating in different frontiers of country as well as globe with their
valour and abilities. Its pride for HIT to look to the distant horizon to see how their
able Alumnus are keeping the HIT flag flying high.
Along with this, the dear home-sick one time HIT boys and girls look back with left
out memories and nostalgias to hear of and from their Alma Mater, the dream house
of their HIT days.
The Alumni Association has made the passionate effort to bridge this "look forward"
and "look back" desires through this Alumni meet and get it rigidly bonded with the
adhesive of love, affection, friendliness, regards and respects towards each other
towards grand unique confluence of 'Samne Dekha" and "Feere Dekha".
It's a great gesture, its something which can only be felt and perceived. I wish this to
be successful much and much beyond expectation.

Alumni Association of Haldia Institute of Technology
It is a great deal of satisfaction that the alumni association of Haldia Institute of Technology is
organizing the 5th reunion 'Phire Dekhs?2014' on 22nd February, 2014.
Haldia Institute of Technology has helped shape the destiny of many thousands of students. In
so doing the institute has throbbed with life and included within its boundaries people of every
kind. Students have come and gone but the character of the college has been highly influenced
over the years by the faculties and staff whose selfless and dedicated service have established
the traditions of quality academic, cultural and sporting activities. As society has changed with
respect to politics, economics, culture, technology but although the Institute reflects those
changes the traditions to continue.
With the arrival of the 21st Century, integration with community is no longer adequate as
globalization; clash of civilizations, the even larger environmental issues, and the more basic
question of sustainability are posing new challenges to educational institutes particularly to
private engineering college like this institution.
Alumni-reunion is such a platform which offers the opportunity to the current students to be
acquainted with the crisis as well as opportunities of employments and also to be aware about
the work culture in corporate world so that they can prepare themselves for the future.
On the occasion of the reunion, a huge number of alumni returned to their beloved campus for
reunion. The organization of this momentous event was indeed challenging, and I would like to
take this opportunity to extend my hear-felt gratitude to all members of the organizing committee
& and its many subcommittees, all colleagues, alumni, guests, all students and also our
benefactors. The success of the celebratory activities, held throughout, owed much to your
dedication and hard work.

Haldia Institute of Technology
A new year, a new leaf, a new look, a new committee of the Alumni Association, a new beginning.
Greetings from your beloved Alma matter, Haldia Institute of Technology! The office of Alumni
Association (Phire Dekha) is the primary communications link between the Institute and our alumni.
It is our goal to encourage and foster lifelong alumni participation involvement and commitment.
Indeed, a great Institute can measure its worth by its alumni because we are already out there in the so
called real world, our opinions on the changes we have experienced there, would be invaluable to
them. Although you may not physically locate on HIT Campus, we remain a valued part of HIT's
extended family. With our reach experience, we can contribute greatly to the education experience of
HIT students. We can bring a real world perspective to the academic pursuits of the students. Our
Institute needs our voluntary service. We can assist in or lead seminars, workshops. We can assist the
Institute in the professional enhancement or personal enrichment courses or services for fellow alumni
or even current students. We can also provide leadership in various activities.
On behalf of the Alumni Association of HIT, I urge your involvement with the Institute's come back
for home coming & reunion weekend, hosting Alumni events, be a mentoring the current students
and do not forget to assist us financially.
Over the next several months and years it will be our goal to strengthen the bond between the Institute
and our alumni, to create programs which match the interests and needs of the alumni to increase the
participation, involvement and communication with our younger alumni and to continue to serve as
the primary communications link between the Institute and its alumni. Achieving these goals will
require a tremendous team effort of the alumni.
We recognize, acknowledge and embrace our alumni as vital stake holders in the advancement of the
Institute. All members of our community; students, faculty, staffs, employees and alumni have a place
on the continuum linking the Institute to the society around us.
Therefore we appeal to all our alumni to participate in 5th Alumni meet (Phire Dekha). We also
encourage each alumnus to be the ambassadors for HIT in their respective communities by assisting
their fellow brothers & sister's in terms of placement. The festivities provided a prime opportunity to
exchange information & renew contacts old & new. Haldia Institute of Technology seeks to continue
to strengthen this rapport with our alumni.

Alumni meet, Reunion are few touchy words intertwined with the academic fraternity that make the people nostalgic and triggers old (sweet) memories to obsess the
mind. It is the alma mater that establishes a common link among the diverse people
of varying age, caste, creed, culture and tastes. It is so powerful that it can even
bridge the generation gap spontaneously and can eliminate all the discrepancy. It
won't be an exaggeration, if we consider the term alumni tantamount to internet.
Like the later, the former keeps on increasing every year by a network. "Phire Dekha"
is an event of our beloved institute; Haldia Institute of Technology (HIT) under similar paradigm, which is going to be held first time in 2014. It would be a platform,
where alumni of this prestigious institute would find the best possible opportunity to
embrace each other, share their experience, and most importantly, reminiscence the
colorful days, which they had spent during their sojourn at HIT. The meet would be
a confluence of people of varying dimension that would reiterate and consolidate our
tradition 'unity in diversity'. Such events would definitely reinforce brotherhood and
friendship and add a feather to its crown, which will help to move one step ahead
towards its mission.
Since the beginning of its journey in 1996 in a very humble way, the institute has
grown up a lot at present, both horizontally as well as vertically, to an enviable position with about 7600 alumni to its credit. They are the brand ambassador of our
institute and have glorified their alma mater through their credential and work. It is
our proud privilege to be associated with them. The event "Phire Dekha" would
provide us an opportunity to unite all under one umbrella - named HIT and to take an
oath to elevate our institute to a position that would be considered as benchmark of
academic excellence.

August HITians, the flag you are holding,
Let it fly, fly and go high!
Under any circumstances, let not it be down!
Memories, whether good or bad, alma mater is yours!
Nurture it to grow, and nourish the green,
Immune to all diseases,
Mutate to spread knowledge you gain,

It is great pleasure to me to express and put some words before ex-HITians on the
eve of "PHIRE DEKHA - 2014", the fifth alumni meet of Haldia Institute of
Technology.
In the era of globalization and open market education policy, we have to cater our
technical education in multi-national need keeping the fundamental definitions and
ethics of science & technology unchanged. I think, Haldia Institute of Technology is
going in the right avenue with those objects and must fulfill the basic needs of now
a day's society by their students in future.
Alumni meet is the right place to share & exchange thoughts and experiences among
the alumnus of each organization. I think, "PHIRE DEKHA - 2014" must enrich
Haldia Institute of Technology on its journey with sharing & exchanging the different thoughts and experiences by the alumnus those are associated in the different
organizations in different arenas all over world.
At last, I take this opportunity to express my best wishes towards every success of

It is an immense pleasure and honour for me personally to welcome you back to the
HIT campus where you spent 4 to 6 years which is the best part of your life. I believe
that the sweet reminiscences of those days occupy an imperative part in your mind
because that duration which you have spent in HIT helps you to enter in the professional world. This humble effort for the reunion "Phire-Dekha" is aimed to offer you
a chance to meet your friends those you missed a lot. This college was established in
1996 and it is the first private engineering college in the West Bengal. This college
has already served the nation about two decades by providing a good number of
graduate and post graduate engineers. At the very beginning there were lot of
problems which was faced by the teachers and the students but ignoring all those
difficulties all the students and teachers reached their goals, which really we need
today. A good student does not mean an academic excellence but besides academic
excellence he/she should be a good human being, which the nation really wants.
I consider this day- and it truly is -a home coming day for the hundreds of you who
are here today away from "madding crowd" of your work place and under a single
umbrella of your dearest campus.
I wish you all the best. Let's have a good day together!

Though I am not an alumnus of our college (HIT), I have been requested to write
something about the occasion for which I am really feeling honoured. It has been a
decade journey for me at HIT. During this I have met a good number of students, and
have shared and gained various knowledge, for which I feel privileged. I feel happy
when I get calls (voice or text) from my ex-students who are now busy in their
respective works. I am fortunate in this regard, because I have been getting a lot of
calls in almost every day (may be due to the HOT seat I sit in!). Naturally, it is very
difficult for them to come down often here at HIT to revisit the past. Even at department level, we have organized re-union in the past years, but the number of exstudents turned up was very less. We all know that the number and the quality of
alumni signify the status of an institute. Also, they have an important role to play for
betterment of any institute. They can provide us various suggestions for improvement and pass on critical information to the budding engineers. I hope that this institute-level re-union (Phire Dekha 2014) will see a huge number of ex-students together on 22nd February 2014 to discuss their nostalgic moments. I heartily welcome you all on this event and look forward to meet you.

It is of profound pleasure to learn that some of alumni of Haldia Institute of Technology have
taken the initiative to re-establish the Alumni Association and consequently they are again
revitalizing its counterpart through the alumni meet "PHIRE DEKHA-2014". Getting germinated from a mere three departments with a miniscule ninety students the Institution has
proven its identity through the quality of its students' fraternity who are contributing to the
society to move forward. In this pursuit, 'Integration' is the key word and I request all the
alumni to reconnect with the Institution through this association.
Due to the unprecedented global turmoil, 'Quality' has become an inevitable part to sustain
and it can only be imbibed and inculcated only when we are united and integrated. Hence, the
association would be the ideal platform to reminisce the waned memories, to reconnect each
other, to recall the days spent at HIT, and to rejoice with the whole HIT family.
We certainly look forward to a meaningful contribution from all the alumni to your Alma
Mater, including sharing your professional expertise with the present students, contribute to
the nation building through knowledgeable, efficient and upright citizens, who have imbibed
the right values during their tenure at HIT, Haldia.
We shall expect constructive contributions from the Alumni in terms of enhanced facilities
for the needy students and also in helping senior students realizing their career dreams.
The different schools under the institution would also be regularly sharing the achievements
through web and also seek views of alumni in implementing new ideas found feasible by the
Institution authorities.
I am happy to note that a large number of eminent Alumni have already consented to participate in the celebration. We look forward to many more such opportunities, to enable the
Alumni to share their success stories with us. I am sure that this grand meet will be a perfect
restart of an Annual Alumni meet this year and years to come.
I look forward to meet each one of you on 22nd February 2014.
Message from HOD,

Mr. Soumen Pal
Associate Professor & Head of the Department

Haldia Institute of Technology
With its fourteenth batch just passing out, it is the time for Haldia Institute of Technology to welcome back its Alumni for their first ever reunion organized by the
institute. On 22nd February, 2014 after months of planning the Alumni Affairs Office is set to host the reunion at S.N.Bose Auditorium, HIT. With its proximity to the
HIT campus, the venue itself will be nostalgic for people who had made Haldia
Institute of Technology their home for four years. The stage will be set as old friends
gather, embracing their long lost days that they had left behind in the race to the
summit. The faculties of HIT will also be present to hear the stories of their old
students of how they are nurturing the skills passed on to them. We, the all staff
members and present students are waiting eagerly to share their contribution over
their ongoing corporate life, social life and technological development. It is a great
initiative taken up by the college to reunite its alumni in a very organized way. I just
hope the spirit doesn't die, and the alumnus of the all batches will be very happy to
see his old friends and teachers. Different committees of HIT are ready to set up their
stalls at the venue for alumni to guide them and appreciate their work. It is nice to see
the Alumni Committee here who is doing a fantastic job.
Message from HOD, Food Technology
Dr. Avik Mukherjee
Associate Professor & Head of the Department
Food Technology
Haldia Institute of Technology
Let us pat ourselves on our back for finally being able to look back at our journey
spanning for almost two decades and counting. An obvious thought crosses my mind
- why Phire Dekha? Well, the answer to that is quite well-known and obvious. But,
why is this Phire Dekha so special, when we all know that almost every engineering
Institute or University does organize such alumni meet(s). To start with, just the fact
that this time around we are doing it with such grandeur, is really self-satisfying. And
in fact, it is a dream-come-true for our HIT family. As I ponder over the specialty of
Phire Dekha - 2014, I realized that we may only sense the magnitude of it if we can
measure how special HIT is.
So, how special is it? Let me share some of the rare facets of HIT that makes it very
special to me, and, I am sure, to many others. How many Institutes or Universities in
India have such beautifully maintained flowers - every winter - every year? How
many engineering Institutes in India have parent-teacher meetings? Not to mention
our already well-established reputation of being a disciplined engineering Institute,
where routine classes are rarely missed, and exams are diligently monitored and
evaluated. Let us all enjoy this Phire Dekha as proud HITians, and take an oath to
protect, preserve, and nourish these specialties of our beloved Institute.
Message from HOD, Biotechnology
Dr. Siraj Datta
Associate Professor & Head of the Department
Biotechnology
Haldia Institute of Technology
It's a pleasure for all of us that "PHIRE DEKHA-2014" is going to be organized by the
alumni association of Haldia Institute of Technology on 22nd February, 2014.
Department of Biotechnology started its journey in August 2001 and produced its first
undergraduate batch in June 2005. Over the past twelve years, the Department has undergone many changes, leaving us well positioned to deliver quality manpower for the
Industries, teaching and research. In the past two years our Department had received
four major projects from different Govt. funding agencies with total sanctioned amount
~Rs. 2.0 crore and three other projects are yet to be sanctioned (total amount ~1.0
crore) this year also.
In the past, though we had to undergo lots of fanatical crunch, still we have not deviated
from our goal, which is to give our undergraduate students (B.Tech) a high-quality
engineering education that includes hands-on experience. Each of our faculty members
is ready and willing to work in their research specialty with capable students on individual projects. The Department also introduced a Post graduate program in Biotechnology (M.Tech). Our master's and doctoral students give numerous technical presentations in courses of their research. All the students are also expected to publish their
research in relevant peer reviewed journals.
The students graduating in Biotechnology for the nine batches of B.Tech and five batches
of M.Tech, since the inception are placed in different industries and academia in India
and abroad.
In this connection, I am happy to announce that "BIOSPECTRUM", a trade magazine
for Biotechnology ranked our Department the 21st among all the private Institutions in
India. This is the only private Institute in West Bengal to be ranked by Biospectrum.

Ah! The sweet dream will come true, when the auspicious occasion of the alumni
meet of Haldia Institute of Technology on February 22, 2014, will become the noble
and sacred confluence of old and existing students, where the old students will feel
the nostalgia of retrospection and introspection of the sweet memories of the good
golden days of the yester years of the alma mater, the second home where you spent
the most precious moments of your life, enjoy with family, friends and teachers,
have mutual interactions, sharing your knowledge and experience regarding contribution towards scientific, technological, sociological and cultural growth and bondage of the departments , the Institute, the society and the entire nation at large. My
dear alumni, you are the pioneers of the future nation and noble abraders of the
Institute to the outer world. Let all wish grand success of this alumni meet.
Dr. Radharani Das
Professor
Chemical Engg.
Haldia Institute of Technology
Being a senior member of HIT family It's my pleasure to welcome you all to Haldia Institute
of Technology, has been your second home for four important years of your lives, where you
have spent the most precious , most colorful golden time of your lives. I believe that all your
dreams which were buds once, have blossomed today. I have spent about sixteen yrs in HIT,
and within this long period I have experienced many wonderful moments with you. Recollecting those past days still make me nostalgic.
HIT had started its journey with a few rooms in the Haldia Municipality building. Initially
there was no such beautiful campus with several hostels, playground, surrounded by gardens
and auditorium like today. This present campus was started in the year of 2000. I remember
walking through mud to reach this campus in order to teach my students. There was no other
way to commute from the Municipality building. At that time we had to go to the Calcutta
Port Trust 's play ground for conducting annual sports, and for annual cultural programme we
had to depend on the rented auditorium of the Calcutta Port Trust or Indian Oil Corporation .
Although the number of students of this institute was very little at that time, the bonding of
the students with the teachers , staff and the administration was very strong. Not only this, the
students waited the whole year to present before all of HIT their renderings of various songs,
plays and poems, some of which they used to write themselves. Even in the absence of
modern sound systems and other paraphernalia, their talent shone through with rare brilliance, and their talented performances will remain in my heart forever.
Today, whenever I look behind, I remember the face of those students who succeeded in
proving themselves in their respective fields, very sincerely crossing those difficult days. It is
their collective effort that marked HIT as a renowned institute all over West Bengal. Now, the
number of students has touched nearly 4000, and its campus has become one of the best in the
state. Compared to those days of old, facilities have improved manifold, and all things are
much more readily available to the students today. However, I must appreciate the spirit of
those students who braved all odds to come and study in their beloved institute. Perhaps it is
not surprising, then, that many of them have been able to successfully carve out their careers
in far flung, often unknown places.
Today, my only message for you all is ……Give your effort until you achieve your goal . My
best wishes are always with you…
Mr. Satadru Sengupta
Assistant Professor
Computer Applications (MCA)
Haldia Institute of Technology
Haldia Institute of Technology is having its fifth "centrally organised" alumni meet, the first
one to cover all the departments of the institute after a gap of a few years when the departments had started organising their own particular alumni meets. Needless to mention, this is
significantly desirable to bring back the pan-HIT spirit woefully had gone missing! For, an
HITan is not first a chemical engineer or computer scientist or management student; s/he is,
first of all, a student of the institute, with the same hostel(s) to share with others, the same joys
and sorrows that campus life can offer, the same aspirations and despairs as others regardless
of the courses they pursue, and, of course, with the same problems and solutions as any other
person of the same age.
As a student comes in, away from home and family, s/he faces an environment made hostile
by the several elements of surprise that s/he faces, and these are often quite nasty as far as
surprises go. This apart, in order to put students of all creeds and cultural backgrounds together in a relatively peaceful mould, HIT is left with very little choice but to follow a conservative approach when it comes to laying down rules and regulations in the hostels, in the
institute itself, and indeed, on all over the campus. Then, it is not surprising that while some
students find it starkly conservative, some impossibly liberal, and some others find it somewhere in between, perhaps all students feel like running away in their first semester of stay at
Haldia.
However, what binds them together is their collective suffering, and their collective overcoming of this suffering leading to their collective joy. It is this feeling of togetherness that provides them with the oxygen to shine on for what, in no time, becomes their beloved institute,
their second home.
As someone who has taught in HIT since the April of 2004, I have seen many batches pass
their exams and step into the broader more responsible part of their lives, as the bread-earners. If ever there was a feeling for them all in my heart, it was that they were all my students,
without exceptions, and I strived to be their teacher equally, once again, without exceptions. It
will indeed be nice to see many old faces again.
I wish the alumni meet all success, and hope it happens again and again.

REMINISCENCE
qE=I
Dr. Bikash Bepari
Head, pE Deptt.
Tried but unable to decipher,
Though, it was pervasive enough.
How many light_years to \,vander
Before, I close my eyes with a sighed
swough.
Fault I made do not deny,
She had oodles ofdespair.
Kept on her, spliced try....
Was it apt to repair?
Yet sun rises and sink,
Stilt I b.eathe and blink,
Why does always she abdicate?
Was
it false to think?
That was a misty twilight,
Murky and was raining.
I was defaulter by a bit,
Thought, a linle sapling.
Was shivering and dripping wet,
That's why cuddled in palm.

CHEMICAL ACTIVITY
.............Mr. Biswajit Mondal, Faculty Chemical Engg.
We are the children of stars an extraordinary activity of universe gave the birth of
solar system. Life begins in earth due to complex activity of organic and inorganic materials.
The story of the life starts after the synthesis of amino acids. Our present can be explained by
a series of dynamic and dramatic story happened in this universe.
Almost all the system in our body can be explained with little confusion except the
activity of our mind. Mind collectively refers to the aspects of intellect and consciousness
manifested as combination of thoughts, perception, emotion, will and imagination; mind is
the stream of consciousness. It includes all of the brains as reversible and irreversible.
Reversible love brings stability in conscious process when we are talking about mind; let us
share some mysterious activity of our mind; that is love. Love generally categories life.
Irreversible love blocks huge space in our mind.
Irreversible love is defined as the love that is not openly reciprocated, even though
reciprocation is intensely desired. The beloved may not even be aware of their admirer's deep
affection. This lead to feelings such as depression, low self?esteem, anxiety and rapid mood
swings between depression and euphoria. Being such a universal feeling, it has naturally been
a frequent subject in popular culture in our society. Despite the case of the beloved not knowing their admirer's deep affections, it is common that the subject of unrequited love is a close
friend. This creates an awkward situation in which the admirer has difficulty in expressing
his/her feelings. Different views exists on the subject of unreciprocated love, modern culture
does not support the nobility of suffering for love, and the advice from most people would be
to move on.
Irreversible love can fall into many categories; usually it occurs between friends. When
one way love occurs between, it usually ends up in tragedy. Usually the outcome of this is the
destruction of relationship, as the beloved does not want to continue leading on the admirer.
Despite the negatives of the one way love, there are elements of nobility. For the
admirer, if true in his or her love, is willing to sacrifice everything for the beloved. If the
admirer can reach the zenith of unrequited love, it is arguable that they will be surely happy
for their beloved, even if they can never be together. Although the emotional pain is ever
present, the admirer has reached a point where there is only pure love, and thus will be willingly to accept the choices of their beloved. Ultimately, it is rare that anyone can attain this
state, as it means that the admirer knows full well that their love will never be reciprocated.
LETTER TO A TERRORIST
THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT
Rajashree Banerjee
Chemical Engineering
Samatri Pal
Chemical Engineering
Dear?
No I shall not say your name
In case they intercept
These tender words.
I do not fear, I'm only shy
As shy as a girl can be
When her man is away at sea.
Your last letter smelled of death.
I burnt it as you said,
Yet kept the ashes in an urn,
Knowing you won't ever return
To our little village on the hills.
Frost bite claimed six lives
And a romance, last winter;
Counting minutes to hours to years.
Waiting for you to surrender
I finally moved on!
They know us all by now
Your kith, kin and lover
They've seen us deny knowing you
In televisions, in newspaper.
They never believed, yet it's all so true.
A lifetime went by, yet I hardly know you
Once a dreamer,
Now looking back, at all the things you said.
An assassin you are, in spirit now
They should know you are already dead!
You told me you fight for a case
For the betterment of a race
But a terrorist has no colour or creed,
A cold stone heart that takes no heed,
And a hated accused fate.
Dear?
No, I shall not say your name
In case they intercept
These bitter sweet words.
I'm not scared, just ashamed
Having loved a man, now defamed,
As much as a girl can be,
When she's writing an unsent letter
To an assassin running free.
Walking and walking the road never ends;
Lonely traveller always looks for a rest.
Once a companion walked along a mile,
But like the ebbing tide,he bade goodbye.
His hold,his touch,his sweet memories
Makes the heart ache and cry bitterly.
Craving for that feel one last time,
Desdate and hungry the traveller went on.
She chanced upon a tree on her way;
With rich golden fruits the tree was laid.
Overcome with longing she could not wait,
Going ahead she touched the golden shape.
The touch itself was beyond words can say
The deep aching receeded in a way.
Its rich golden hue mesmerized the eye,
The soft suppleness seemed to invite.
Whose was the tree and who was to say?
Temptation was too much to think that way.
Her honest eyes still searched for a while
But not a single soul was there in sight.
The fruit seemed to entice her away,
The thirst in her soul wanted her to sway.
So without thinking she bit the flesh,
Just then she realised it's the forbidden fruit.
But somehow the feel was worth the mistake,
It quenched her heart in more ways than one.
Her heart craved to take the fruit away,
But then, will it remain a mistake?
With tears in her eyes she dropped the prize.
And went on her travel with aimless stride;
Something found and lost once again,
She cursed herself at her ill?fate.
TRUE FRIENDS
Sabyasachi Mallick
Chemical Engineering
That day, that times that feel, that craze?
It's all gone
Of the fight between me and my soul,
I won
Today I realize that I have forgotten someone,
Have I? And I am proud that the good deed is done
Is it?
'Coz, somewhere in my subconscious, I feel connected.
Hope I can overcome this love with my hatred
I don't want those days to haunt me anymore
I don't want to be hurt again at my heart's core
I earnestly feel the need to do away with it
But each time I try , I am pulled back a bit
By the memory of some silly thing I
Might have done
As my habit was to have fun
But today, I have lost faith in words like
First love, friendship and fraternity
And my soul; my heart; my life is
Racing at the speed of eternity.
And I cannot afford to be left behind
And I have made up my mind
That I won't trust anyone anymore
As all are best friends at the calm shore
But hardly can anyone find a kind soul
Among this dirty mess,
Who shall stand by when the
Water is at its tempestuous crest.
So today, I have no friends
None to trust and betrayed by
All my feelings are dead
I have made my world such that no one
Can hurt me
And I am totally free
From all bonds of emotion
Which ultimately caused severe commotions
But then, I met somr, who helped
Me to cope with what I had faced
With every little incident, my emotional
Status they raised
Now I realise that it is not just a
Silly game
Coz finally, I have found a......TRUE FRIEND
In them.
And I am a human again
I no more recall the pain
I live, I enjoy, I love to have fun
......And those days......actually become the
Golden memories in the long run....

A volcano is a mountain look alike
pressure with fury it strikes.
A delicate rose does pressure with stand
Leaves fragrance in crushing hands.
A coal is not be left behind
Under pressure acquires a diamond shine!
From these lessons let us learn
While trying to reach what we yearn.
Volcano like thoughts we must spurm
Like a rose do well in return.
Pressure would then wear out with time,
From coal like a diamond you will shine!!!
