August-2014 NEWSLETTER Hello ETECH! Welcome to our August newsletter! Being a positive influence is a character commitment that every leader should be required to make. Not only will being positive have a productive impact on your company but there are personal benefits to be gained as well. There have been many studies done on the power of positive thought and the conclusions drawn show that positive thinking has been proven to reduce stress, help people live longer, improve one’s overall well-being and enable people to better cope with the anxieties of this world. Many people understand the benefits of being positive; the real challenge is the execution! I have often been asked, “How can I remain positive especially when others around me are so negative?” I have recently read several articles and books on positive thinking. There were several common strategies that these articles contained that I wanted to share with you below. I have tried many of these in my own life and they work! Admit you are negative! The first step to overcoming any problem in life is to admit that there is a problem. Whether it is gossiping about a fellow team member, or complaining about a comp plan, or believing that you can’t achieve something … these attitudes all contribute to a non-healthy situation. Avoid Negative Influences. This includes the following: • “Friends” or fellow team members who are always complaining. You don’t have to look very far or hard to find these people. Fire them from your life!! • The news….Murder, war, rape, fiscal deficits, rising gas prices… During my recent recovery from back surgery, I had much time to watch a lot of Fox News. How discouraging! If you need your daily news fix, then turn to resources such as www.happynews.com or www.goodnewsblog.com. Surround yourself with positive people! I love hanging around people with positive people. Why? Because after interacting with them I always feel better. Their positive nature is contagious! Their smile alone energizes me! Saturate yourself with positive books, quotes, e-newsletters and music. You can never have enough positive influence in your life! Commit to being a lifelong learner and make sure part of that learning is focused in this area. Take care of yourself! Eat healthy, eliminate soda from your diet and drink lots of water, exercise, and stop smoking! The better you feel about yourself, the more positive you will feel. The more positive you feel, the better you will take care of yourself. Try it! Form a relationship with God. Pray, meditate, have a conversation, seek Him. We live in a fallen world but God has created each of us for His purpose. The closer you draw to Him, the clearer His purpose for your life becomes. There is nothing more positive that I have experienced in my life then when I finally realized and accepted the fact that God had a purpose for me. Nacogdoches had a Back to School Pencil War to collect pencils for the children in need. Employees who turned in pencils received a chance in the drawing for a $25 gift card. The gift card winner was Joyce Beighey of Facilities. Employees could vote for one of 3 leaders by putting their pencils in the box for that particular leader. The competitors were Josh Robinson of CenturyLink with a total of 51 pencils, Ben Johnson with 176 pencils, and the winner with 292 pencils collected was David Carrizales, Director of Operations. A team of 5 employees, representing 5 different campaigns in the Nacogdoches Center, sprayed David with Silly String to celebrate! (And we even provided safety glasses.) What a great sport David was, all for a good cause. Thanks to the generosity of Etech employees, a total of 519 pencils were collected which will be donated to the Solid Foundation, a non-profit group who provides tutoring and support to school-age children in the Nacogdoches area. Experience People Innovative Technology Remarkable Results 5 August-2014 Connecting School with Work NEWSLETTER On July 29th, 34 local high school students descended on the Nacogdoches Center to participate in the Gear Up program. This program, funded through grants from the U.S. Department of Education and in cooperation with Stephen F. Austin State University, aims to prepare students for the workplace and assist in their success after high school. Students participated in job shadowing with many Etech leaders and administrative staff so they could see how knowledge and skills from school apply at work, what different jobs are all about, and get a glimpse “behind the scenes”. While we know this was beneficial for the students, here are some of the comments that Etech leaders also had to say about the experience: “My student asked great questions that showed she was thinking.” “The students were polite and seemed quite interested.” “Before this experience, some of the kids didn’t understand what Etech was all about.” “I think it made the students happy to know that business professionals cared enough to share insight about the different jobs.” Tuition Reimbursement On August 6, Nacogdoches had 13 employees who received tuition reimbursement checks totaling almost $12,000! These are just a few of the many employees in all our centers who have participated over the years. In total, the company has distributed $847,000 since the tuition reimbursement program began. It’s official! Nacogdoches has launched popular Telecom C2C campaign. This sales chat program provides chat assistance to customers shopping on the Telecom Wireless plans through website and OCR’s use their sales skills to influence the customer to place an order with it. OCR’s also use these sales skills to sell add-ons of accessories and additional lines of service all while providing a world class customer experience. After 4 weeks of training with Matt Cole, Justin Levings, Manish Narwani and Linda Johnson our first classes have been handed over to the operations team! The future of this Telecom Wireless campaign at Etech looks bright! Our successful launch out of the gate has allowed us to continue to grow the program with more agents being recruited for this amazing program. Client is also, giving Etech an opportunity to start a Spanish bilingual version of the Telecom Wireless sales chat campaign. Etech will be the only vendor partner with this line of work, a great opportunity for us to shine even more. Included are a couple of pictures from our site visit with Glenn Davis. We here in Huntington decided to bring some of the excitement to our team. We have started to prepare our floor for a little carnival fun. We have planned a few games they can play with their Sales Coach as they get a sale, and then a few just for fun. Wellness Board Great Summer Reads Here in Huntington we have several people who enjoy a good book. So we have done some research and found some really great choices. These include “The Matchmaker” by Elin Hilderbrand, “Before the Flock” by David Inglis and “China Dolls” by Lisa See. We all know that there are many things that can cause us stress, as a part of our Health and Wellness Board we posted several stress reducing tips. Experience People Innovative Technology Remarkable Results 9 August-2014 NEWSLETTER Sam Ford I am extremely pleased to announce the promotion of Sam Ford to the role of Assistant Sales Coach in the Rusk Center. Sam has been with Etech for two and a half years. Sam began his Etech career as an agent with Time Warner Cable and then worked AT&T West Winback in the Rusk Center. He then spent over a year in the Nacogdoches Center as a Trainer. He has trained a number of campaigns. Sam came back to Rusk to lead the Compliance Point and UT Health campaigns. Prior to working at Etech, he worked as a team manager and trainer with another call center for over 3 years. A native of Rusk, he graduated from Rusk High School in 1992 and then attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton. During his free time, he is involved in the Cherokee Civic Theatre in Rusk, and is involved with the Cherokee County Relay For Life. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication, Sam. Blake Bean, an ETECH employee, donated several of his handmade, one-of-a-kind paintings to the first ever ETECH live art auction Friday afternoon. The art is truly unique because he even makes the canvas out of blankets, sand, and glue. The auction raised more than $300, and all of the money is going toward a good cause. “One of our agents, Mr. Blake Bean, donated six of his hand-crafted art pieces that we auctioned off, and those proceeds are going to go to our back to school supply drive so everything that we have sold today is going to help us go out and buy supplies,” said Alana Culpepper, ETECH human resources manager. If you missed the auction but would like to donate, you still can. You can make donations or drop off school supplies at ETECH just ask for Alana. Family Crisis Center of East Texas Susan Robertson from family crisis center contacted Lufkin ETECH about doing a clothe drive for them. They were lacking in donations and needed clothes for the families they assist. Thanks to the efforts of the recruiting team we were able to make a nice donation to them! Citizen Security and Justice Program – Job Readiness Workshop 2014 From July 15-17, 2014 - Rosalena Robinson represented StrobeTECH at the Citizen Security and Justice Program in providing relevant tips and suggestions to a class of job seekers; ages ranging from 17 – 25 yrs old. These potential workers to our society got a good idea from the viewpoint of our Human Resource Department Manager. Topics covered included: Compiling resume, interviews (telephone and face to face), work ethics, and communication skills. The workshop concluded with a mock interview session for each participant. They were educated on qualities that are looked for in a potential employee to any company and for them to do some introspection on what their long term goals and ambitions are. A note from the organizer at CSJP to Rosie stated “Thanks a Million!” for her assistance. Truly…these job seekers are now ready to become a part of the working class! NEWSLETTER The new way to bid goodbye to the scorching heat was a Mocktail Competition. When the audience gets to see and taste these non-alcoholic refreshment drinks made from scratch by Etech employees trying to compete with each other to make the best drink, you can imagine the level of excitement among them. The competition was tough in this mix-ology challenge! The Judges Divya Barot, HR and Admin and Rashmin Barot, Assistant Director – IT gave away the top 3 prizes for the drinks they found the most innovative and intriguing. Anu Antony & Felcy Lourdswamy bagged the first prize for their interesting Tornado Twist, Rahul Gangwani & Ami Patel came in a close second with their delicious Snake Bite, and Vishwa Mehta & Miral Sarvarkar were at the third place with their mild Peach Blush. All the winners were given a chance to serve their recipes at the Work Life Balance counter. The teams earned a handsome profit which was donated to a charity in the name of Mother Teresa in Ahmedabad. Happy Birthday, AT&T Biz! This August, AT&T 22-States Business C2C completed 4 years with Etech. Over the last 4 years the team has shown drastic improvement in efficiency which has impressed AT&T as well as the LivePerson clients. One of the major KPIs for the process is Willingness to Recommend %, and according to LivePerson, the WTR% that our team delivers every month is higher than any other AT&T Residential and Wireless chat accounts that LivePerson handles through other contact centers. The anniversary was celebrated with a traditional cake cutting ceremony in the presence of all the leaders from various departments. On this special occasion, a photo cake was organized for which displayed the evolution of the AT&T logo over the years, which is a symbol of growth, and inspiration for everyone including this brilliant team. Also, AT&T clients left a very motivating voice message for the team, which was played on the floor during the ceremony, and it proved to be the ‘icing’ on the cake. The celebration was concluded with a message which our AT&T clients and Etech Senior Leadership always quote – “The best is yet to come!” Experience People Innovative Technology Remarkable Results 18 August-2014 NEWSLETTER To share is to care! As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others. Yes, with the same feeling, Etech Gandhinagar, like Etech Baroda was walking the talk. It is with great pleasure we announce that the team was able to donate more than 18,000 INR. The Mocktail competition winners along with all other employees at Etech helped in reaching this milestone figure. Etech donated this amount to Missionaries of Charity that takes care of orphan kids. It was indeed a heart touching event to see kids being abandoned when they are born; however, it was with great pride we say that the team could contribute and make a difference in their lives. The Missionary of Charity is a Roman Catholic Latin Rite religious congregation established in 1950 by Mother Teresa. It consists of over 4,501 religious sisters and is active in 133 countries. A member of the Congregation must adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty, obedience, and the fourth vow, to give wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor. Let’s thank Anu Antony, Veena Shetty, Hitesh Patel, Rutesh Dave, Ankit Panwar, Jatin Chouhan and Rahul Gangwani to visit the place and contribute in Etech’s stead. We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop – Mother Teresa Premium Telecom Campaign Rocks! Telecom Wireless C2C campaign witnessed women power this summer, on the floor. 5 female team members lead their teams and competed head on with each other to win the competition. It was great to see the female captains encouraging their teams to get more sales and win the amazing goodies. There was a fierce battle between the all the captains and one team emerged as the undoubted winner. During the contest, a remarkable number of sales were achieved. All the TMs enjoyed the floor contests and will definitely look forward to more similar contests. Experience People Innovative Technology Remarkable Results 19 August-2014 Independence Day Celebrations NEWSLETTER It was August 15, 68th year of India’s Independence, and Etech India was all excited to celebrate it with a bang. ‘Traditional’ was the theme of the day that brought all the colors, culture and diversity of our people together under one roof. Both the centers decided to test their employee General Knowledge by conducting a quiz. Etech Baroda organized the most awaited event of the month the Grand Finale of ‘Who’s The Smartest.’ It was a nerve wrecking experience for the audience to wait and see who the winner amongst the 5 finalists is. Moreover, the audience rounds kept the spectators on their toes in hope to bag in some goodies. Etech Gandhinagar, not far behind, decided to have a quiz competition of their own in which the questions were asked on anything regarding India. 10 players were chosen in the elimination round based on ‘passing the parcel’. It was a nail biting finish to the end for the 5 participating teams. The winners in both the centers were awarded exciting prizes. Along with that, the birthdays of employees was also celebrated with a traditional cake cutting ceremony. Getting rewarded and applauded in front of the whole centre holds a special value for everyone and the team ensures the appreciation and hype doesn’t end with the ceremony; it continues. Along with it, the team had fun filled moments of games in which many team members participated and all joined in applause. NEWSLETTER The Etech Baroda Corporate Social Responsibility Team visited The Akshayapatra Foundation. This was their second visit to the foundation and it seemed there were many more things to explore. Akshayapatra foundation provides freshly cooked mid day meals to 1,368,283 underprivileged children in 19 locations across 8 states of India; currently, implementing the free mid-day meal program in 9,075 schools of the country, with plans to increase that number to hundreds more. It is also a strong MIS & Operational Excellence model taught as a case study at Harvard Business School’s MBA Curriculum. This program has also helped increasing the number of kids coming to school and has prominently affected the intelligence of these kids because of the nutritious meal that the foundation provides. The Etech activity included an orientation, a kitchen visit, a public school visit and serve the mid day meal to the school kids. The school visit was the most fun part of this activity. It was an exciting experience for many of the Etech representatives as it brought the memories of good old school days and all the mischief that they were once a part of. The team successfully concluded the fund raising campaign at the Baroda centre and was able to sponsor 21 kids for the free mid day meal program through the Akshayapatra foundation. We are thankful to all the philanthropists who contributed towards this wonderful cause. Happy Friendship’s Day! ‘A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.’ Usually celebrated on the first Sunday of every August, the Friendship’s Day was celebrated a little year at Etech Gandhinagar. The WLB team conducted a Quiz to check if you know your friend well. We had an out-of-the-world participation and it is safe to say that some of those friends really knew each other well. Theme Days While the Baroda team fervently waited for the Grand Finale of ‘Who’s the Smartest?’ the team celebrated the entire week based on different themes every day.
