Collin’s parents, Betsy
and Curt, found that
being able to stay at the
Ronald McDonald House
of Marshfield eliminated
many worries after their
son made an early
entrance to this world.
From the Director
Dear Friends,
The kitchen and dining room
have always been the
centerpiece of the Ronald
McDonald House, a gathering
spot for families to prepare
and eat their meals together,
share stories, gain support
and form friendships. So after
28 years of service to
thousands of families, it was
time to consider remodeling
the kitchen-dining –deck area
of the House.
The RMHC of Marshfield
Board of Directors hired
Design Unlimited to be the
local architect, and Boson
Company was hired as the
general contractor. Katie
Nemitz, the interior designer,
and Angela Ford from
Kabinet Konnections worked
closely with staff to
incorporate details of our
historic 1912 structure into
the new design.
We are also grateful to the
following RMHC national
donors: the Dupont Company
donated seven sheets of
Corian countertop, Brand
Source donated three new
refrigerators, Coca Cola USA
donated a new product
machine, Insinkerator
donated a new garbage
disposal, and Benjamin
Moore donated eighteen
gallons of paint/primer.
After removing a wall
between the old kitchen and
toy room, the kitchen is now
in proximity to the children’s
play area with good visibility
so parents can prepare their
meals and keep an eye on
their young children. One of
our two kitchen workstations
will be fully handicapaccessible and in compliance
with all ADA requirements.
A new bay of windows on the
west wall of the kitchen adds
more good natural light from
the late afternoon sun. There
is access from both the
kitchen and the dining room
to a new outdoor patio.
Multiple seating areas of
various sizes will contribute
to a more homelike
environment for our House
families. After the stress of
hours at the hospital, having
a quiet meal together
–whether breakfast, lunch,
supper or late night snack-can
provide both a welcome relief
and an opportunity to
reconnect with each other.
As we look forward to the
completion of this project just
before the holidays, we are
once again reminded that we
could not provide this “home
away from home’” across the
street from Saint Joseph’s
Children’s Hospital without
your generosity. During this
holiday season we give
thanks for you, our friends of
the House. You are a very
important part of this support
system for families of ill
children.
Sincerely,
Sandy Zygarlicke
House Director

Fast Facts:
Ronald McDonald House is a “home away from home” for families and their children who are receiving treatment at Saint
Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, regardless of their ability to pay. Our House has 10 bedrooms, 4 public bathrooms, several
living rooms, indoor and outdoor play areas, large remodeled kitchen and dining room, 3 laundry facilities, elevator to
make house handicap accessible, plus game room computer with internet access and WiFi wireless throughout the House
donated by AT&T. New rec room furniture was delivered this summer from La-Z-Boy, a new national donor.
Marshfield’s Ronald McDonald House opened in 1983. We are the only House serving one hospital for all of central and
northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Our House is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, by 2 full-time and 7 part-time staff and many dedicated House
volunteers. Group volunteers also help by making home-cooked meals for our families (part of our “Meal a Month”
program) and doing special projects.
Your help is vital to providing a supportive home for families with seriously ill children. When you create or change your
will, please consider leaving a charitable bequest to RMHC of Marshfield, Inc. We also gratefully accept gifts of cash, stock,
property and life insurance. We greatly appreciate your support!
Thank you for being a friend to families with seriously ill children.

businesses and organizations to provide services to families in need. We would like to acknowledge
those who have demonstrated their support in many ways during the past quarter. This list represents
cash and in-kind contributions received from June 1 - September 30, 2011. If we have erred or omitted
anyone, please accept our apologies.

Be our fan and help us get 211
friends by the end of 2011! Go
to www.facebook.com and
search for Ronald McDonald
House Charities of Marshfield
Wisconsin to get all the
updates on our mission to provide “temporary
lodging” to over 400 different families each year
at our 10-bedroom Ronald McDonald House.
You Only Have Until December 31
to Take Advantage of this Special
Tax Benefit!
On December 31, 2011, the special tax-code
provision that allows donors to make a tax-free gift
from their IRA account to not-for-profit
organizations will expire.
This special tax break allows donors to make a
direct distribution from their IRA account to a
qualified charity – tax free. By taking advantage of
this opportunity before the end of the year, you can
fulfill your obligation to take an IRA distribution,
avoid taxes you would otherwise have to pay AND
make a generous donation to the nonprofit(s) of
your choice – including the Ronald McDonald
House Charities of Marshfield, Inc
Here are two of the primary provisions:
• You must be 70 ½ years of age or older
• You may give up to $100,000 (married couples
can give $200,000)
When you pull
the tab, remember that
those little tabs add up
to some big dollars
($8,929.56 in 2010) for
Ronald McDonald House
in Marshfield. Please save your tabs and bring
them to our House. We will recycle them to
raise funds needed for program expenses
such as household/office supplies and utility
bills.
Special Notice to Fundraisers
The RMHC of Marshfield is always grateful for fundraising efforts by area organizations. However, it is necessary for us to approve all
events that use our name and logo. If your group would like to organize a fundraising event to benefit the House, please call us at
715-387-5899, and we will be happy to discuss the details.
