We use and hear these numbers in our lives all the time. For example, you are the second person in line; please go to the fifth window; you are the third person to tell me that! Understanding the meaning of these words is an important skill for your child to learn. It will help him or her in school as well as enable him or her to understand conversations and daily situations. Math in the Home, on the Go, and for the Fun of It — DIRECTIONS: Read and talk about the A New Way to Say Numbers reference sheet with your child. Read each description to your child and have him or her point to the lollipop you are describing. Have your child count first, second, etc. each time you point to a new lollipop. Have your child explain how he or she knows the placement of the lollipop by saying the numbers in order: first, second, third, fourth, and fifth. Read the directions to the Which Object Am I? activity with your child. Do the example and then have your child choose the triangle and the square each time.
