My Amazing Trip
To
Egypt!
By Syahirah
My Travelogue In Egypt (#1)
Itʼs been a week since I had arrived in Egypt and I have to say that Iʼm lucky to bring my
cap. Iʼm not sure about everyone else but it was blazing hot as if the sun was actually in
your face. When I was at the airport I started staring at the sand, it was everywhere. Then
suddenly a cry a child came.
“Mummy, mummy, itʼs to hot here!” The mother gave her daughter a look.
“If you scream or yell one more time Iʼll take you iPhone away and I will not let you use the
air-con in the hotel,” The child was silenced.
I continued walking in. In the corner of my eye I could see a whole group of people staring
at me, I looked at them back and they all looked away. Was there something on my face?
was I doing something wrong? until I thought: “Of course!” My cap had the face and ears
of the famous Pikachu. As I was walking in the city of Cairo I saw my guide, I didnʼt know
his name but I was aware he wasnʼt my only guide.
In my travel now I know that I have at least 3 guides but mostly because I was going to 3
amazing places that was annoyingly attracting other tourists. The only reason why I said
“annoyingly,” is because I donʼt really like talking to people which is called socially
awkward so even when Iʼm ordering a pizza, it gets awkward.
We were still at the airport and my guide, Kiva, told me where we were going. At first we
would go to the hotel and drop my bags and apparently the only thing I had done for the
whole week was just to relax in the hotel, it was nice but really boring!
After the whole week, my guide, Kiva had finally called me to say that it was time to visit
the “Valley of The Kings.” It was near Luxor and it was suppose to be a place to put all the
royals from egyptʼs dead bodies in a tomb, in the valley.
So today is the day that I would finally go to the Valley of The Kings. It was exciting, my
guide wasnʼt very enthusiastic but she knew what she was doing. It took about an hour to
get there but the time was worth it, luckily I had my earphones and my phone to keep me
company with music. Kiva wasnʼt the person to have small talk with, if you want to ask her
a question she will keep talking and talking and talking. It was unbelievably annoying.
When we arrived to the place I was truly astonished with the view.
I was happy for two reasons, simply because there wasnʼt many people and because the
valley was beautiful but then as I looked beside I saw this thing.
The entry to actually go to the Valley of the Kings! I sighed and looked at my guide.
“What should we do?” I asked her,
“Not to worry, this isnʼt a line. Itʼs just a path to go to the valley,” she said.
I sighed louder and walked along. It was really loud and it was really hot, I wore my
pikachu hat because it was the only hat, it was a good and bad decision because a lot of
people stared at me but either way it protected me from the sun.
Yes, this is my hat. It looks ridiculous but it was surprisingly
affective against the sun. As I was walking I wasnʼt sure why
people brought their umbrellas, it wasnʼt raining. I think that
bringing an umbrella just to cover themselves from the sun, I
am never bothered to hold an umbrella.
Finally after a couple of minutes we finally got there. It felt
amazing! As usual like other people I started taking an
unusual amount of pictures of the valley and me.
As we were walking through each of the tombs of the
Pharaohs my guide had told me that on the walls near the
tomb they were decorated with the myths in egypt.
These were called hieroglyphics, where
these pictures actually had meaning to
them and what archeologists study. Iʼve
always wanted to see them but then I
was never bothered study them.
How did it take to make these?
What do they mean?
After all those hours of walking around and taking pictures were already heading back to
the hotel. The sun was setting and most people were already leaving like we should do.
“Alright, you shoulder better go back to your hotel,” My guide said.
“Wait, youʼre not coming?” My face, puzzled.
“Yeah sorry. I have to head somewhere else instead, Iʼm pretty sure weʼll see each other
around. Bye,” She waved and went somewhere else like she said.
I had to go take the bus back to Cairo and like usual, it was awkward.
Again, another hour to bore myself with my music. Looking around Egypt really made me
feel like a stranger because of the way the locals look at me but luckily there were other
tourist to. Whenever I looked out the window all I could see was sand and some people
walking with goats.
When I arrived back to the Hotel I straight away went back to my room and fell asleep.
My Travelogue In Egypt (#2)
This is my 2nd week and now Iʼm already making my way to the Pyramids of Egypt on my
rented camel, Lollipop. I call it that because it looks like itʼs licking an invisible lollipop, next
to me is my guide, Amal. He didnʼt quite tell me his full me he simply just said: “Just call
me Amal,”
I didnʼt want to argue with him because maybe his name might be to long or maybe
embarrassing and plus, I really just didnʼt care. The sand was soft and the sun was blazing
hot, my camel still continued licking itʼs invisible lollipop and as for me I tried looking
around to see if there was any one else either. I felt excited and eager to see inside the
pyramids of egypt. I wanted to do that, ever since I was a small girl. Probably when I was
just 6 years old, I had watched this movie about these people who went into Egypt and
had awoken a mummy. Iʼm pretty sure itʼs called: “The Mummy,” and thereʼs a whole
trilogy of it. As we kept moving on we saw a tour bus pass right next to us, Lollipop went a
little crazy but soon enough I got control of it again.
“You alright?” Amal looked at me then back to the bus,
“Yeah, Iʼm fine. Lollipop was just a bit surprised,”
“Lollipop?” Amalʼs face was confused, I had totally forgotten that I didnʼt tell him I started
calling my camel Lollipop.
“Ah yes, I forgot. I decided to call this camel Lollipop,” I smiled proudly,
“Good for you but you shouldnʼt be to close with that rented camel,”
My smile disappeared and thought, “Wow, thanks for bring me down Amal,” I sighed and
continued on.
Finally we arrived to the pyramid, it felt like forever just to arrive. I took a good look around
and saw a whole group of tourists, they had cameras in their hands as well as one
hanging around their necks.
“Do you want to go now or wait with them?” Amal looked around,
“No thank you. Letʼs just go right a head,” I sighed and went on a head with Amal, trying to
avoid any contact with other people. The only reason why I do that is because Iʼm socially
awkward, unless I know that person very well.
The pyramids were bigger then I thought, the blocks were definitely huge. I thought about
taking picture but then I thought to myself that I should just do it later.
Amal went a head in front of me, this was ridiculous. Even though the pyramid was large,
the inside was tiny. It was kind of hard to fit through and it would make you sweat because
inside the pyramid there would be the stairs that lead up to the kingʼs chamber, the
queenʼs chamber and plenty of other things. As we were walking up the stairs of the
pyramid I heard small little whispers, must be some other children around here. I donʼt
know why but I felt this really uncomfortable sensation, maybe because the staircase was
crowded and I was a bit claustrophobic. Amal looked like he had no problem with going
anywhere in this pyramid, probably because heʼs been here plenty of times.
A scream came from behind. We all looked back to see a little boy had scrapped his leg
against the staircase by accident. Children. We all looked to the front and kept walking
forward until we came across the gallery, it was beautiful. There were the hieroglyphics
and other pictures that told stories. Like everybody, I took a picture of it at once!
Finally, I could show my parents where I had been. My guide showed me this diagram
about how the inside of a pyramid looks like.
I didnʼt actually quite get the picture until I realized that we were at the Grand Gallery.
I had never knew how on Earth the outside of the pyramid was so huge but the inside was
so small, the other amazing thing is that is stood here for at least 1,000 years.
I feel old.
After the Grand Gallery we headed to the Kingʼs chamber
Inside the chamber it felt spooky and uncomfortable because it was small and kind of dark.
Amal told me:
“As you can see the corner of the sarcophagus is broken, which is strange but interesting
at the same time,”
I said nothing. I just stared and took a couple of pictures.
Soon after that we went to the Queenʼs chamber. My heart felt heavy and I had goose
bumps on my arms and legs, again I took pictures of the room. It was small and empty
which made me even more curious but Amal didnʼt say that much but he just looked.
We didnʼt take to much time in the Queenʼs chamber so after that we went to the last
place, the Subterranean Chamber.
Apparently the Subterranean Chamber was a medium sized room and it was yet again
empty like the Queenʼs Chamber. There wasnʼt that much to see but it was still an amazing
experience. The Subterranean Chamber was dark and so Amal took out his torch and held
me by the arm, I couldnʼt see that much but I was pretty sure the other tourist are at the
back.
“Can we get out of here? Iʼm feeling a bit uncomfortable,” I said, scanning the room,
“Well if you say so,” Amal grabbed me by my hand again, leading to go through the stairs
again. It was really hard going through the stairs because most of the time other people
wanted to come through to so you had to make your way slowly up the stairs.
I went back on my camel and made my way back to the hotel. It was a good day and the
pyramid really made me feel uncomfortable at some times or most of the time.
My Travelogue In Egypt (#3)
This was my third last day in Egypt and I had a tour of the river nile and see the crocodiles
there to, I wasnʼt a big fan but they are very interesting creatures.
I packed my small bag and made my way to the bus where I would meet my next guide.
When I reached there I saw him and he saw me, I went forward to him and asked,
“Hello, Itʼs me Syahirah,” I awkwardly smiled,
“Oh yes! Iʼm your guide for today. My name is Aiden,” He shook hands with me and
continued,
“Shall we go?” He pointed at the bus. I turned around and saw the bus coming, I was
excited and scared at the same time. I am terrified with crocodiles but then again I would
love to see one.
The bus was crowded but luckily we found two empty seats.
“How come you donʼt have a car or any transportation?” I asked him,
“Well, the cars here are expensive and Iʼm not bothered to drive,” He said,
“Oh, alright,” I looked away. I then realized that People were looking at me because of my
english, was it that good? Iʼm not so sure and I didnʼt really care. I looked at my watch and
it was already one pm.
It took at least 30 minutes to get to the Nile river, where waiting for us is a private boat.
As we arrived we saw there was at least 6 people waiting to go on the boat and we were
the 8th. I was a bit nervous and the boat kept waving about, the people in the boat were
constantly shaking around because of the boat.
When we actually started to move around the river, the ride was smoother. People started
to take pictures already and I didnʼt see any crocodiles yet, the main guide was talking but
I wasnʼt actually listening to him. Instead I just looked at the water and suddenly I saw two
eyes peeping out of the water, following us. I realized it was a crocodile! It didnʼt do
anything but follow us, I was scared it was charging and it will jump up so I quickly took a
picture of it and told my guide, Aiden.
He was shocked and looked down, his
eyes widened.
“Is this normal?” Quietly, I whispered to
him,
“Not to worry, the main guide usually gives
out meat to feed the crocodiles,” Aiden tried
to comfort me and not made me panic. But
then that was true, I saw a whole basket
filled with meat.
“Tell the main guide!” I said to him.
Aiden shouted out a language I didnʼt
understand and the main guide answered
him. Soon enough the main guide takes out the raw meat and throws it in the water.
I sighed and took my camera out again, the crocodile jumped out and charged to the meat
when suddenly another crocodile snapped itʼs jaws on the meat first leaving nothing
behind for the first crocodile. Some of the tourist screamed as they started to fight, others
screamed and the others took pictures and filming videos. I watched but didnʼt react, Aiden
did the same.
As I looked at the side I saw another couple of crocodile. I didnʼt feel scared anymore,
instead I just watched, I wasnʼt bothered to do anything but to observe.
As we went around the river we saw plenty of fishes as well, they popped up on to the
surface. Other people brought bread and threw them into the water.
The tour was over and I had to say it was kind of quick.
During the boat trip I thought about what I was going to do tomorrow. It is my last day after
all, maybe go shopping?
To boring.
Explore?
Maybe.
Oh! I thought of the perfect thing to do. I could go back to the outskirts of the town and get
my camel, Lollipop back. I could borrow her for a day and return her after that.
Another day of fun and Iʼm really tired, those crocodiles scared me but I got used to it.
My Travelogue In Egypt (#4)
Finally the last day in Egypt. I went to the bus stop again, waiting for the next bus. It at
least took 40 minutes for the bus to get back. In the bus like usual, it was quiet and hot.
When I arrived to the outskirts I saw Lollipop again, she was drinking some water and her
tongue was out, still licking an invisible lollipop.
I rented Lollipop again and started to explore around the city on a camel. It wasnʼt
something normal to do but, who cares. There were plenty of shops but I spent most of my
money on Lollipop so I had to be careful with what I was buying.
Suddenly something scared or surprised Lollipop and so she started to move crazy and I
fell to the floor. Lollipop started running and I tried to follow her but she was to fast. A lot of
people were screaming and running but then I heard it gone silent. I stopped on my tracks
and waited for any further noises, suddenly I heard Lollipopʼs footsteps. I looked around
the corner and saw that Lollipop was eating some hay from the ground. I approached her
slowly and grabbed her leash, I pulled her back and looked at my watch. Apparently I
wasted more time then I had thought, before it was 1pm and now it was 5pm. The sun was
quickly setting and I had to return Lollipop to her owner.
Before I returned her I gave her a hug and ran off to the bus station. I kept thinking to
myself that how quickly this month went in Egypt. When I arrived back to my Hotel room I
started packing all my things and quickly went to bed.
My Travelogue In Egypt (#5)
As I woke up it was already 10 in the morning. Slowly, I opened my eyes and quickly got
ready to go to the airport. This time I had to go by myself and take the taxi, I had at least 2
bags with me. I sighed as I looked out the window from the taxi, it was raining and there
was barely any people on the streets.
As I arrived to the airport I realized there was an unusual amount of people but at least I
get to go home, at last. I looked through my older photos of Egypt and one of my favorite
ones was the crocodiles.
It was time to go to the airplane. I closed my eyes and slept. When I opened them again
only 5 hours had passed when thereʼs 10 hours to go back to Malaysia. I sighed and
looked out my window, it was night which was nice but I just went back to sleep.
