RESORTS IN BLOOM . SPRING 2015
Dear Garden
Tour Guest,
Welcome! We would like to
thank you for coming to our
7th Annual Resorts in Bloom
MARY SZECSEY
EX
EC
UTIVE DIRECTOR
Garden Tour. We are excited
to share with you these
spectacular gardens that
belong to our local
resorts that have graciously opened their doors
to you, our supporters.
We are fortunate to live in such a
beautiful place with people who care about building a
healthy community for everyone. And we hope that,
in the future, you will choose to patronize the businesses and
sponsors who are supporting West County Health Centers
through this annual fundraising event.
This tour promises to be a unique experience as it is the only time
of year that the resorts in West Sonoma County open their doors
and gardens for touring by the public. We ask that you please
respect the privacy of the resort guests and remember that the
resorts are in full operation throughout the weekend. After the
tour, please take some time to learn more about the comprehensive services and innovative programs at West County Health
Centers by visiting our website at www.wchealth.org.
We know you will enjoy this tour of some of the finest gardens
in West County with their historical landmarks, rare plants,
meditation gardens, and master garden presentations and
much more. Take pleasure in the experience as you relax with
friends and stroll through these breathtaking properties.
Enjoy nature’s most precious gifts … listen to the birds singing …
take time to smell the roses.
Our heartfelt thanks for your ongoing support,
Mary Szecsey

again Welcome Everyone to
Resorts in Bloom
The beauty of Sonoma County can be
enjoyed during a tour of the grounds
and gardens of these wonderful resorts.
For four decades West County Health
Centers have positively impacted
thousands of lives in our community.
I am thrilled that WCHC recently
obtained a Federal grant for Behavioral
Health Integration to increase
availability of mental health services at
all sites. The Center has also received
formal recognition from the National
Committee on Quality Assurance as
a Patient-Centered Medical Home,
a national model of health care that
demonstrates improved care for WCHC’s
commitment to patients. These critically
important, quality services are not only
helping us work towards a healthier
community, but also a safer one.
This event represents everything that
is wonderful about this county, both in
terms of the beauty that surrounds us
and the generous nature of those who
participate in this fun event. I hope you
enjoy your visit.

Thank You for Participating in
this Wonderful Fundraising
Event that Supports West

the Important Work they Do
For over forty years, WCHC has
delivered quality and affordable
healthcare services to the communities
of West Sonoma County. Their highlyskilled team of physicians, specialists,
nurses, support staff and volunteers
play an integral role in the delivery of
healthcare to rural and unincorporated
areas of my district. The range of services
offered at WCHC includes primary care,
perinatal and obstetrics, mental health
and dental, as well as a wellness center
and teen clinic.
I want to commend and thank WCHC
for their continued efforts at expanding

a local and statewide model of patientcentered healthcare excellence, WCHC

the lives of their patients.
As you enjoy this weekend’s garden

Resorts in Bloom Garden Tour
It is wonderful to be able to come together
to support the vital work that WCHC does
Every year, dedicated and gifted gardeners
partner with resorts and sponsors to make
this incredible garden tour possible. We are
very grateful for their generosity.
We are also grateful and lucky to have
a health care partner like WCHC in our
community. By offering innovative, caring
and patient-centered health care, WCHC
is providing the tools we all need to build
healthy lives.
The Resorts in Bloom Garden Tour gives
us the opportunity to celebrate WCHC’s
accomplishments during the previous year
and 2014 was particularly eventful. One
of WCHC’s most exciting achievements
was to open its fourth primary care site,
Gravenstein Community Health Center last
September in Sebastopol. It will open fulltime in the fall.
The Forestville Wellness Center received a
$250,000 Federal Capital Improvement grant
to improve access to services and WCHC was
awarded a new Federal grant for Behavioral
Health Integration to increase mental health
services at all of their sites.
These are only some of the many
accomplishments that the West County
Health Centers attained in 2014 and a mere
fraction of what they have contributed
overall to the well-being of the individuals
and families they serve.
WCHC couldn’t be the success they are
without your incredible generosity. Thank
you again for your invaluable support and
commitment to a healthier community!

Experience Healing, Beauty, and Inner Peace
Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary | 209 Bohemian Hwy, Freestone | (707-823-8231 | osmosis.com
Osmosis is the only day spa in the U.S. that offers the Cedar Enzyme Bath, a rejuvenating
heat treatment from Japan. Inspired by a vision of healing, beauty, and inner peace, Osmosis was
founded in Sonoma County in 1985. Our beautiful meditation garden allows you to savor the
heightened state of sensory awareness and inner peace that often follows an Osmosis treatment.
A pond, pathways, waterfalls, 60 tons of ornamental stone, and dozens of sculpted trees and
plantings symbolize the awakening of a human soul to the place of peace at the core of its being.
A nearby waterfall connotes the end of the journey. Water, signifying consciousness, returns to the
still, smooth pond that stands for the receptive emptiness that is the source of everything.
The garden, designed by Osmosis owner Michael Stusser, Japanese garden design expert
Robert Ketchell of England, with construction overseen by the late Zen priest Steve Stucky, abbot of
San Francisco Zen Center, combines traditional Japanese and Chinese elements to symbolically
represent the personal journey inward toward harmony and tranquility.
Please park at Freestone Hotel on the corner of Bohemian Hwy and Freestone St.
Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary is offering a free $25 Gift Certificate for the retail store
with every $150+ gift card purchased on-site during the Resorts in Bloom tour.

Your Gateway to Sonoma Wine Country
The Raford Inn | 10630 Wohler Rd., Healdsburg | 707-887-9573 | 800-887-9503 | rafordinn.com
The Raford Inn Bed and Breakfast, a designated historic landmark, is for lovers, romantics and all
travelers interested in lodging at a truly unique place in time. This charming and inviting Victorian
country manor Inn sits on a hill and presides over a fertile, unpopulated, and unspoiled Russian
River Valley. The Raford Inn is ideally located at a gateway to the picturesque and abundant Sonoma
County Wine Country near Healdsburg in Northern California.
Built in 1880, this three-story estate manor house is an officially-designated historic landmark. The
authentic Victorian-era French Colonial architecture still remains, including the original Queen Anne
accents. Raford Peterson’s family lived here and worked the land for 100 years before it was sold,
refurbished to modern codes and converted into an Inn. The original 1,300 acre property was once
mainly planted with hops. Now vineyards prevail and the remaining four acres are a protected sanctuary for a house that is not merely a place to shelter travelers, but is also a home where the spirit of
congenial country hospitality lives on. Come enjoy the enclosed sunroom and wraparound veranda.
Gaze through the towering palm trees across the grape vines and step back into the 19th century.
Dane will be offering tours at 11am and 2pm on Sat and Sun of the event. Each is an hour long.

In the Middle of Nowhere... and at the Center of Everything!
Santa Nella House | 12130 Highway 116, Guerneville | 707-869-9488 | santanellahouse.com
This Russian River bed and breakfast, in the Sonoma Wine Country, is a Victorian farmhouse

bed and breakfast inn.
Extensively renovated and modernized, the stately structure boasts five bedrooms and five and
half bathrooms plus a cottage in the forest. Each room is tastefully furnished with antiques, features its own fireplace and a modern bathroom. There is wireless Internet throughout the property.
Santa Nella House is ideal for romantic escapes, honeymoons, small group gatherings, and girlfriend getaways. We welcome guests with a glass of wine and some helpful advice on exploring
the wonderful Russian River recreation area. An added bonus for staying at Santa Nella House is

Complimentary Wine Tasting to ”Resorts in Bloom“ Guests during Tour
VML Russian River Winery | 4035 Westside Road | Healdsburg | 707-431-4404 | vmlwine.com
In life, usually the biggest challenges offer the greatest rewards. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay —
grapes that grow on the margins of viticultural regions— are the preferred varietals of VML. Preferring cool, foggy days to sunlit ones, these varietals have the potential to offer complete expression
of their roots. However, this requires the subtle and intuitive touch of a good farmer and eventually
the gentle influence of the winemaker. These same principles apply to the creatvity of the beautiful
gardens combined with the unique hardscape.
