This requires students becoming aware of their personal biases, as well as understanding knowledge claims made by others. Students are required to develop strong analytical writing skills The assessments include: A. Individual Presentation (internally assessed, 20%) B. Essay on Prescribed Titles: 1200- 1600 words (externally and internally assessed, 30%) C. Coursework, essays, presentations, tests, and exams (internally assessed, 50%) Examples of Prescribed Titles: 1) To what extent is truth different in mathematics, the arts, and ethics? 2) Examine the ways empirical evidence should be used to make progress in different areas of knowledge. Psychology of Human Relationships Paper 3 – Qualitative Research 20% - 1 hour exam Internal Assessment 20% Simple Experiment Biology SL Group 4 – Experimental Sciences Internal Assessment Design, carry out and interpret the results of scientific investigations Use relevant and current lab equipment and technologies Work collaboratively with classmates External Assessment Three papers over two days Evaluate knowledge of the curriculum material Cells, biochemistry, genetics, ecology, evolution, human health and physiology Physics SL Group 4 – Experimental Sciences Course Content Mechanics, Thermal Energy, Waves, Forces, Nuclear power, Energy plus two options Internal Assessment Design, carry out and interpret the results of scientific investigations using up to date technology and collaborative group skills External Assessment Three papers over two days Chemistry HL Group 4 – Experimental Sciences Minimum 60 hours of lab work Focus on designing experiments, recording and processing data, interpreting and reporting results Covers 3U and 4U Ontario curriculum topics, plus more Organic Chem, and 2 choices of Option topics, such as Human Biochemistry, Medicines and Drugs, Environmental Chemistry, Food Chemistry, etc. Mathematics SL Group 5 – Mathematics and Computer Science Internal Assessment – 20% • an opportunity to investigate and model 2 given tasks without the time pressure of a test, marked by their PCI teacher. External Assessment – 80% •2 IB written standardized tests each 1.5 hours long, •Paper 1 – no calculator, •Paper 2 – calculator expected – TI-84+ graphing calculator must be purchased.
