FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Preschool & Youth Aquatics
WATER BABIES/Parent & Child
YOUTH
Ages 6 months – 36 months
(30 minute class)
The primary objective is to get both the parent and the child
comfortable in the water. Classes are designed to allow the
child to have fun in the water while the parent guides them
to learn aquatic skills and safety. The child will be exposed
to games and songs that use basic movements in the water
such as kicking, arm movements, and breath control.
Activities are based on the developmental ability of the
child.
For your child’s safety, we require at least one adult to
accompany each child.
Ages 6 - 16
(40 minute classes)
In the youth program, the children are grouped by skill/
ability level. Each skill builds upon the preceding level covering skills such as: swimming strokes, diving fundamentals,
boating safety, synchronized swimming, water polo and other water sports. This is a teacher/student/group
experience.
It s very common for a child to repeat a level once or multiple times. As a parent, it is important for the success of your
child to encourage them at their own developmental stage.
PRESCHOOL
(30 minute classes)
The preschool program is the child’s first experience in the
pool without parental assistance. The children are taught
basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming. They
also learn about pool safety, boating safety, and the use of
personal flotation devices. This is a teacher/student/group
experience. Each child has different swimming abilities and
will advance through our different levels at their own pace.
It s very common for a child to repeat a level once or
multiple times. As a parent, it is important for the success
of your child to encourage them at their own
developmental stage.
Parent & Pike (Ages 2 - 5) Building upon the skills
taught in Water Babies this class is designed for children
that are mature enough to begin learning basic swim skills,
but not quite ready to leave the comfort of their parents.
Parents are guided through the instructional process of
teaching their child. For your child’s safety, we require at
least one adult to accompany each child into the water.

Back Yard Pool
“Let our instructors come to you”
We’ve been teaching swimming to residents of Northern Rhode
Island and nearby Massachusetts for close to 100 years.
Our Back Yard Swim classes are taught by a certified lifeguard and trained swim instructor. Our instructors teach swimming
strokes and level advancement following the YMCA’s Skippers and Progressive Swim Instructors Guidelines. The Aquatic
Director and/or the swim instructors would like to make a visit to the pool site and meet with the participants before lessons
begin. The meeting will involve checking the pool for cleanliness, proper water chemistry and pool safety with an emphasis
on structural integrity and the surrounding area. If the pool is not in compliance with appropriate standards, The Greater
Woonsocket YMCA has the right to deny Back Yard Pool scheduling for that pool, until acceptable standards are met.
Scheduling is provided on a first come, first serve basis.
Our rates for private in home instructions are the lowest in the area. We try to keep class sizes small to provide the most individualized instruction. Our instructors are available on almost any day and time.
All fees are for a 4 week session. Class time is 45 minutes.
Up to 3 students, once a week $130. Twice a week $200
4 to 6 students, once a week $150. Twice a week $225
Payment in FULL MUST be made prior to the first class. Lessons begin the week of 6/23/2014
Get together with friends or neighbors and sign up for one 4 week session or for the whole summer.

The YMCA believes in keeping children safe in and around the water. For this reason all children registered in our Before
or After Child Care program will receive Swim Lessons Free of Charge.
