Annual General
Meeting Wrap-Up
Special thanks to Olena Nolte and family for
delivering our newsletters this year and welcome to
the Desjardins family covering the west route!
Thank you to those members and guests who attended
our AGM on June 8. The meeting rolled along with all of
our usual business being approved and various reports
being delivered. The event always has a strong social
component as well, so be sure not to miss it in 2017!
The grand opening of the Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre in Acadia was held on June 18th in conjunction with Neighbour Day. This beautiful new
facility and renovated outdoor courts are definitely
worth checking out!
The meeting also saw the sharing of some great moments of the past year, committee reports and election
of our Board of Directors. All former board members
were voted back in with unanimous support! We still
have three vacancies on our board, so consider stepping up for the betterment of your community!
We have recently confirmed our public skating and
shinny hockey dates for 2016-2017 season, so mark
your calendars! (we are still hoping to acquire more
dates yet… stay tuned!)
Membership
Update
We are eagerly awaiting the grand reopening of the
renovated Trico Centre pool with a targeted date of
August 15.

11, January 15, February 19 and March 26.
Shinny hockey: Sunday November 6, Thursday

Requests for memberships continue to trickle in so we
are well on our way to surpassing our total for 20151016. The last few sales that have come in have been
thanks to our volunteers who left “sorry we missed you”
flyers for residents who weren’t home during our April
membership drive.

10PM, Shark Club transforms into one of
Calgary’s most popular nightclubs.
This summer, join us as we welcome the
Calgary Stampeders for their official away

our Weekend Warm Up every Thursday.
Characterized by quality, driven by passion,
each of Shark Club’s thirteen locations feature innovative menus crafted from carefully selected ingredients.
We take the game seriously — but there’s
more to it than fantastic food and HI-DEF

Even pre-season feels like Superbowl Sunday at Shark Club Calgary Deerfoot Meadows. Come watch the Flames, Stampeders,

Have a Great Summer!
We would like to extend our appreciation to all the parents, families, and friends who have supported our preschool during the past year, as a cooperative, we could
not have done it without you all! A special thank you
to Mrs. Killam as she has put so much love and dedication into all of the activities for the students for so many
years, and creating all of the relationships with her students that have made a lasting impression for each of
them (so much so we have her student’s children now
attending some of the classes).
Have a wonderful summer!

As you are reading this, I will likely have welcomed our
new addition to our family. Given that the Legislature will
not be in session until the Fall, I will be primarily based in
Calgary for the summer. I expect to be around the office
and at community events during July and August so if you
see me out and about with the little one, please come and
say hi.

My staff and I continue to hear that traffic and speed in
our neighbourhoods continues to be a cause of concern.
We are all concerned about the safety and security of everyone whether they are walking, biking or in a vehicle.
Please ensure that you report traffic concerns to 311 on a
consistent basis so that they can be addressed.
Stampede Taxi Stands
Stampede taxi stands are designated areas near
Stampede Park where taxis will be lined-up to wait for
customers. Two temporary taxi stands will operate at
all hours during Stampede. These stands are located
at the South and North entrances of Stampede Park.
The taxi stand located at the North entrance of Stampede Park will provide priority service to people with
accessibility needs as this entrance provides the most
direct route to enter into the park.
Late Night Temporary Taxi
Stands
Within Stampede Park there are multiple entertainment venues. In 2016 all venues are closing at 3 a.m.
To accommodate the evening rush two additional
late night temporary stands will be established. For
details, visit Calgary.ca and search taxi stands.
The last thing that anyone needs this summer is a ticket so
please remember that government reminders for vehicle
registration and license renewal reminders will no longer
be mailed to you. Albertans with disabilities will continue
to receive their reminders in the mail. Seniors over the age
of 70 will continue to receive mailed reminders until April
1, 2017. Sign up for email reminders by visiting your local
registry agent, or sign up online at one of the following:
•E-registry (Vehicle Registration and Driver’s Licence)
http://reminders.e-registry.ca/
•Alberta Motor Association (Vehicle Registration) https://
ama.ab.ca/registries/vehicle-registration-online/
•MyAlberta (Available April 1, 2016) https://eservices.

Hello Ward 9!
As we get ready to enjoy the summer months and reconnect with friends and family, I wanted to take this
opportunity to give you all a heads up with events that
are happening both in our Ward and in Calgary.
If you have your walking shoes on, during the day, you
can stop by Olympic Plaza and view the market. Just
down the street on Stephen Avenue Walk, view the
usual fare, plus the additional live entertainment and
events that will be taking place.
If you haven’t been to Studio Bell, home of the National
Music Centre, there will be free admission and gifts for
the first 500 visitors who attend.
For more details on those Canada Day events, go to calgary.ca/CanadaDay.
You aren’t limited to these events to enjoy your city and
neighbourhoods. Your community associations do great
work all year. With Stampede season starting soon, it’s a
great time to get better acquainted with them and the
work they do on your behalf.
Please check out their websites and read through their
newsletters for their Stampede breakfasts, the other
events they will be holding over the summer, and the
things they are preparing for in Fall 2016.
