THE FOREST CITY NEWS, FOREST CITY, PA 18421 * WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2016 * PHONE 570-785-3800 * email [email protected] - PAGE 9 Motocross racers are “One Big Family” at Clifford race complex Some of the racers bring multiple bikes, in specially adapted trailers, complete with sleeping and eating facilities. An ever-present unit at every Hurricane Hills practice session or race is the ambulance of Cottage Hose Company, Carbondale, complete with two EMTs, to handle any emergency both on and off the track. Zach Striefsky, Browndale, hoists two trophies he won on July 29. This is his 2nd racing season. He returned that day after breaking his leg in the first race of the season in April. Track owner Joe Fritz checks on one of his employees in the side-by-side as he continually patrols his vast complex located on Rte. 106 south of Clifford. Many area people work at the track. Iannace’s Cycle Shop, Catskill, NY, is one of the vendors on site who can address the repair and upkeep needs of Motocross racers. Owner John Iannace says Motocross keeps kids out of trouble and is “one big family.” Ridge Sollick, age 21, and Vincent Latini, age 26, both from Wyalusing, PA, check out their bikes prior to a practice session at Hurricane Hills on July 30. Ridge pilots a Honda while Vincent has a Yamaha. Motocross racing is a family affair as shown by nineyear-old racer Tayton Fiske, with dad, Jason, mother, Kim, and 7-month-old Branson. All from Monroeton, PA., near Towanda. Tayton began riding at age 4 but this is his first year of racing. For most area people who travel on Route 106 south of Clifford, this is the only sign for what turns into a mighty busy enterprise every few weeks from April to October . Keeping the track well watered, especially in dry conditions, is a vital activity at Hurricane Hills. For the Saturday, July 30 practice, the dust got quite heavy around 2PM. However after the heavy rains of Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, the track conditions for Sunday’s races turned out to be excellent in the afternoon.
