The
SURROUNDING AREA ATTRACTIONS
Coast is Clear
SURFING There’s no better place to watch surfers than from
the Huntington Beach Pier. And don’t be surprised if you find
yourself wanting to try and ride some waves yourself. The
good news is that you’re in the right town to learn thanks to
Huntington Beach’s ideal conditions for beginners and the
numerous surf schools that operate here.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL The thirty courts along the Huntington
Beach oceanfront are available to the public on a first-come,
first-served basis. The largest selection is near the pier and ball
rentals are available from nearby concessionaires.
BONFIRES Stay and catch the sunset, linger into the evening
warmed by a fire glowing in one of the city’s bonfire rings. The
bonfire tradition is still going strong where nearly 600 concrete
fire rings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Beach
concessionaires and some hotels offer firewood as well as all
the fixings for s’mores and more.
BICYCLING, JOGGING & SKATING Bicyclists, joggers, skaters
and walkers can take advantage of the 10-mile-long paved
boardwalk that runs the full length of the shoreline parallel to
Pacific Coast Highway and extends over 40 additional miles up
the Santa Ana River Trail. Bicycle rentals are available at beach
concessionaires near the pier.
FISHING With long stretches of beach, Huntington Beach is a
haven for anglers looking to test their skills in near-shore waters.
No fishing license is required to fish off the pier—and you can
rent rod and reel from a store on the pier. For deep-sea fishing,
boat tours are offered out of nearby marinas.
KITE FLYING The miles of open beach and shoreline breezes
are perfect for kite flying. Bring your own kite or purchase
one from the kite store on the pier—then take a lesson from the
store’s professional kite flyers and learn how to do their
impressive tricks.
