Letter From The Editor
Its awesome power. The roar
of a Harley and the helping
hand always seem to go
together. Last year, we
helped raise over a million
dollars for charities. Bikers
do much more . We are
humbled. We celebrate the
people who come to the
shows, the marketing that
goes into the shows, the
power of music and celebrity
that take the shows over the
top. To our brothers riding
the highway of life, thanks for
allowing us to provide an
occasion rest stop…
and a little music.

In 1948, the Shrine
Club of Jackson
County formed a
parade unit based on
the mystique of the
Harley-Davidson
motorcycle. It was the first two wheeled
unit to be sanctioned by The Imperial
Council. Their motto, is “Our wheels
turn so cripple children may walk.”
This group of bikers holds a special place
in history and our hearts.
The Station Rally opens with The Ararat
Motor Corps presenting the flag at noon.

Lawrence, KS - Aug. 13 was the best theme party
KU’s home town has seen in many years. Shark
Fest seems unlikely for Kansas, but it was the
22nd Birthday for
The Sandbar at
8th Street and a
large inflatable
shark helped set
the tone for the
thousands of fans
of the long standing Lawrence watering hole.
Sponsored by Land Shark Lager, the stage hosted
Valentine & The Hammerheads and Blue Orleans.
Live music and shark fin hats
ruled the day.
The owner, Peach Modl,
always assembles a
costumed crew to dance and
entertain. This year was no
exception as Captain Jack
Sparrow mingled with the
dancing party people. I guess that is the reason
The Sandbar always makes the
“Must Visit” list of spots in Lawrence.

It is rare when an artist creates a large body of work so
compelling and unique that new language is required to
describe it. The paintings of Dave McQuitty display the
emotion that he channels into the brush.
Esoteric Expressionism affects the viewer. When he reveals his thoughts, we become travelers into
another dimension. - David Marks
