On November 17 our new building’s final I-beam was set in place, completing the foundation
and framework phase of the project. The “topping off ceremony,” an ironworkers tradition,
included a beam-signing by construction workers, health center staff, and other community
members. The beam, topped with the traditional
evergreen tree, United States flag, and the POW-MIA
Flag, was then hoisted up and bolted into place.

Eastern Bank contributes $100,000 to Campaign
The Health Center is pleased to announce that Eastern Bank has made a major contribution
of $100,000 to its capital campaign. “Eastern Bank is an incredible champion for the City of
Lynn and the people of this community,” said Lori Abrams Berry, LCHC Executive Director.
“This investment in our project will help make it possible for the health center to provide
quality, accessible healthcare to everyone who needs it.”
“Eastern Bank has a long-standing tradition of supporting organizations that serve Lynn, and
few organizations are as vital to the community as the Lynn Community Health Center, so it
was a relatively easy decision to support this important expansion,” said Richard E.
Holbrook. “We applaud the health center for all that it does to provide access to quality
health care. We share the health center’s commitment to making Lynn a better place to
work and live.”

LCHC receives major funding to double size of project
Original capital campaign goal still critical to completion
The Lynn Community Health Center has received $6.9 million in federal funding to significantly increase the size of the
expansion project that is currently underway. This funding, through the Federal Health Care Reform Affordable Care Act, is
dedicated to building out a second floor and the basement. The new second floor addition will enable us to double the size of
our dental clinic and create additional space for primary care. The finished basement will be built out to house a teaching
kitchen, an exercise area, and meeting rooms, and additional administrative space. This second phase will also complete an
expanded lab, radiology and mammography suite on the first floor in collaboration with North Shore Medical Center.
The Health Center broke ground on the first floor of the new building in June, before the additional funding was announced.
This original project will double the size of our walk-in clinic and create a central registration area. This project began with the
announcement of a $6 million capital campaign that was launched with a $3 million grant from Partners HealthCare. Partners
HealthCare and North Shore Medical Center have worked with the Health Center for more than a decade to improve health care
access and care for children and adults in our community.
“This original fundraising goal remains a very critical
piece of the project,” said Lori Abrams Berry, LCHC
Executive Director. “In fact, it is now more important
than ever. Our community relies on us for access to
basic health care, and demand for our services
continues to grow.”
When complete, the two story expansion will allow the
health center to provide comprehensive health care for
more than 7,000 new patients, in addition to the more
than 33,000 individuals who already rely on us for their
care.

Lynn Community Health Center enters 40th year of service in Lynn
The Lynn Community Health Center celebrated its 39th Annual Meeting in October. This annual event is an opportunity for the
Health Center to highlight its achievements of the past year, to recognize board and staff who have achieved milestone
anniversaries, and to honor members of the Lynn Community. High on our list of achievements this year was breaking ground
on what will become our new 2-story expansion.
James Cowdell, Executive Director of the Lynn EDIC,
received the Public Health Award for his strong support of the
Health Center’s expansion project. Jim and the EDIC
provided early support for the building project, and continues
to be a strong advocate. A significant contribution was their
help facilitating the acquisition of the land, which was formerly
city property.
The John S. Moran Award for Community Service was
presented to the Barton Family in honor and memory of
Virginia Barton, a former Board member and longtime friend
of the Health Center. LCHC Board Members Marchia Rhodes
and Edmund Carleton Brown presented the award to her
family. They spoke about her many contributions to the Lynn
Community, and her gentle, loving spirit that extended to
everyone. Zhanna Bronshvayg, RN, was given a special staff
LCHC Board President Marilyn Smith, with honorees Patricia
award for her work with refugees and immigrants in Lynn.
