The following was sent by Paul Scaletty and he asked that it be forwarded to friends and family. Our thought was that it should receive the widest possible distribution, especially in this Season. Therefore we are publishing it in the newsletter so that we can even reach those without internet service. The Editor Dear Friends: WOW!!! You won’t believe what you and the Holy Spirit has made possible. On Saturday Dec.13, 2014 the convent was invaded by approximately 60 volunteers from Ascension Parish. You would not believe it, but they painted almost every room, including hallways, stairwells and the entryway in one day using over 60 gals of paint. Everything is beautiful bright and clean. Everything was donated from paint, brushes, masking tape, to caulking compound. They will be rewarded both in heaven and on earth. The Ascension K of C continues to provide money ($5,000) and labor wherever it is needed. Their efforts in the chapel have not made it the Sistine Chapel but it is close. Thanks Joe Walrod and helpers . (See photos at http://www.gofundme.com/helpthesisters . ) WE HAVE HEAT!!! The second floor heat is in and on. A very special thanks to Wholesale Sheetmetal who donated five (5) complete high efficiency furnaces and air conditioner systems, including all the ductwork, grills and registers. Thank you Pat Chilen. We still have to put in the fire rated ceiling under the ductwork in the hall and we are waiting to see if we need electrical lines in that area. We have to decide how to put in a fire safety system as required by city code. We have one bid of $50,000 and are looking for ideas and other bids. If you have any let me know. We have enough money to complete the two (2) new furnace instillations on the first floor. This will be done after the first of the year. We don’t have enough money to complete the basement heating yet. There are meeting rooms, laundry, storage rooms, etc. down there, so the heat is not quite as important. Weber Carpet is awaiting our call for the donated bedroom carpet. We wanted to wait to finish the painting before we carpet. We will probably be calling them next week. Thank you, Fred and Joe Weber. Prince of Peace volunteers have filled our panty and are still bringing more. The sisters use and give away these things everyday, so we need to continually replenish. Thank you Phyllis Miles and helpers, they are also building some additional shelving that is much needed. So much more is going on every day. People continue to bring food and other necessities. A group of men and boy scouts from Prince of Peace want to help over the Christmas break. I heard there is a group of girl scouts who want to help. The volunteer list continues to grow!!!!!!!!!! (Continued on page 4) A Mission In Service to Vocations 3 (Continued from page 3) People come in and clean, cook or whatever to help the Sister’s fulfill their mission to the poor. John Holt anchor at Channel 4 Fox News is going to run a news release on the convent. We don’t know when but before Christmas. There should be some teasers on news to let you know when. Thank you Jim Wilson. The web site http://www.gofundme.com/helpthesisters has raised almost $2,500 to date. Check is out and sent it via face book, tweeter, etc to your friends. Again thank you Ascension K of C, for your help in doing this. Holy Cross K of C had an omelet breakfast last Sunday. They hope to rise between $400 and $1,000. Thank you fellow Knights. St. James Academy students and family have donated $1,300. Thank you Mark Huppe. I hope I haven’t missed too many people; there are a lot more. I apologize if I missed you. DON’T GET THE WRONG IDEA. WE ARE NOT PLUSH WITH MONEY!!!!!!!!!! We do have the necessities: heat, hot water, electric, indoor toilets and food. We still need: $50,000 for fire safety equipment, $60,000 for a new roof, and $45,000 for windows. These are just the big items and of course we intent to find better prices and hopefully donations on all these items. There are still a million little things. Don’t forget we have continuing money needs like utilities etc. So don’t quit giving your time, talent and treasures. Be sure and let your friend and family know we need their help too! God Bless all of you. The sisters are praying for all of you. Merry Christmas. Paul Scaletty 913 488 5558 cell ps: Please pass this on to friends and family. John Holt anchor at Channel 4 Fox News aired the program Monday 12/22/2014 on the 9:00 News. A Mission In Service to Vocations 4 Archbishop Naumann’s Message At Serra Club, Dec. 10, 2014 Hilton Garden Inn Kansas City, Kansas The December 10th Serra Club luncheon was highlighted by the presence and message of Archbishop Joseph Naumann. His Excellency brought forth the backward and forward vision necessary to approach 2015. Returning from a recent American bishops meeting, he reflected that our challenge is not only to assess our priorities but also to sharpen our efforts on existing pursuits. Currently the Diaconate program is reaching fulfillment with the Kansas City, Kansas group, as Father Gary Pennings leads this ministry. An upcoming document will be released on the Diaconate, connecting American and overseas programs. Catholic schools are promoting the faith and sound education in four states: Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska, with strategic plans for greater enrollment. We plan for greater outreach to minorities, especially welcoming new families and the Hispanic population. This welcoming effort should be for all our faithful, with avoidance of elitism. Teacher formation in the Archdiocese continues, led and modeled by Mike Schershligt, building stronger faith among our teachers. The danger of pornography is a sad but fast-growing addiction, even among younger children. The vision of the Church stands firm against practices, policies, and even some laws that destroy the dignity of the human dignity. Positive solutions to such forces above are seeing an upcoming document in liturgical messages, and Catholic health care. The current Bishops’ Synod focuses on the family, removing obstacles such as cohabitation, by hosting retreats for women and men, while the Year of Faith has enriched Catholic beliefs, especially among weak Catholics. Most research tells us that a strong relationship with Jesus is the key to progress in our daily, spiritual lives. Archbishop Naumann was joined by Msgr. Michael Mullen and Father Scott Wallisch for a closing blessing. by John Coakley A Mission In Service to Vocations 5 SERRA CLUB OF KANSAS CITY IN KANSAS You are cordially invited to attend the 2015 Valentine Mass and Dinner When: Where: Wednesday February 11, 2015 Milburn Country Club 7501 West 69th Street Overland Park, KS.
