Inspiration.
Here at Up Country, we are endlessly inspired by the
stories of adopted dogs and their new families. Over
the past 4 years, we have heard tales that made us
laugh with joy and cry with sheer disbelief. We’ve seen
hundreds of dogs in all shapes and sizes, full-bred and
unimaginable mixes. There seems to be an endless
supply of animals that need a loving family.
But, we’ve also met so many people who have come
forward to make a difference, and we wanted to share
their stories in our new catalog. All the models you see
on our collection pages are rescue dogs from Rhode
Island. They were surrendered and in some cases were
in very bad shape and seized by the shelter. We felt that
the heartwarming stories of these special animals was
worth sharing and celebrating.
We’ve been working all year to create new designs
and products to please and inspire you! As always, all
of our collars, leads and harnesses are made here in our
Rhode Island factory. Our expert sewers, shipping and
customer service staff, work hard to make you beautiful
and long lasting products. So enjoy our new catalog
full of beautiful new designs and rescue dogs!

Meet Brisco
Brisco is an 8 year old Pitbull
adopted in Providence as a three
month old puppy. His owner
Connie is the fundraising manager
of a local animal shelter and knows
how to handle this awesome
breed; she also has an eleven year
old named Isis! “Brisco is super
photogenic and has appeared in
many magazines. He’s really well
behaved; we do a lot of obedience
and agility training and he loves it!”
Brisco’s only fault? “He likes to
sleep in and won’t get out of bed
on workdays!’

Meet Sarah
Sarah is a two year old
Wheaton terrier mix, who
was found roaming in a local
park. She had a temporary
home with a couple whose
apartment did not allow dogs.
When Samantha adopted
Sarah and brought her home,
she dashed around the backyard
for an hour and a half. She
recognized a blanket in the
corner as “her” spot and was
soon rolling over for belly rubs.
She became a happy part of
her new family and neighborhood, playing with the other
dogs in a nearby baseball field.
The only one left to win over
is the cat, and Sarah is
working hard on that!

What happens when your dog can’t walk?
If you are Julie, you accessorize a stylish
pink wheel chair with a coordinating collar
Meet Maddie
and lead. Maddie is a sweet 5 year old mix
of Dachshund and Cocker Spaniel that
was seized by the RISPCA in a neglect
case. After falling off a deck, Maddie was
paralyzed and left in a crate where she
was found matted and underfed with
untreated open sores and infections. Julie
is a veteran foster/adoptive mom of
disabled dogs, with two blind and six deaf
dogs. Since her adoption, Maddie enjoys
riding in the car and has discovered the
benefits of the drive-thru window! She
follows Julie everywhere around the house,
loves to go outside and enjoys playing
with her four legged siblings.

Minnie, adopted by Alice Nichols, owner and president of Up Country, was one of eight puppies transported from
an overcrowded South Carolina shelter to the Newport based Potter League. Part hound, terrier and lab, she is
our resident model for new collar designs, taste tester for new treats and a pal to play with during breaks. At home,
Alice confesses, “Despite our intentions to have an obedient, well trained dog, we have capitulated to Minnie’s
charms and demands. We will be repeating puppy training 101 with summer school a definite possiblility.”

When Princess came to visit us at Up Country, she was a bit timid, and preferred lounging in her new
dad's arms in a comfy blanket. "We found her on a Saturday and fell in love. We visited every day until
she was ready for adoption. She is a wonderful addition to our family and friends." Shortly after Princess
came home, she disappeared. Her new family panicked, but eventually found her cuddled in a courier
bag hanging from a door handle. Thereafter, she burrowed into any kind of bag she could find leading
to the belief that her prior owner, a young lady, probably carried her around in her purse. Easy enough,
given that Princess only weighs 7 pounds. A new life fit for a … Princess!

Meet Gracie
Gracie was found abandoned
at a construction site with three
other newborn puppies. The
worker who found them huddling
together rushed them to the
RISPCA, where the other three
puppies died within a few days.
Lisa fed and nurtured Gracie,
requiring a tremendous amount
of work and expertise. But Lisa
has fostered over eighty puppies;
her experience kicked in and
Gracie flourished. There was
something special about this
particular dog and Gracie was
adopted by Lisa’s family. Two
years later Gracie “graces”
our catalog and we couldn’t
be happier!

Meet Lola
P R O F I L E
Jean and Jim fell in love with Lola the
minute they saw that beautiful face and
gorgeous fluffy white fur. Lola is a 4 year
old Great Pyrenees, a type of herding dog,
and loves to protect her new “flock” of five.
She is the perfect family dog! More than
treats, she loves hugs, affection and being
with her new family. Jim even built a special
seat for Lola to be more comfortable in the
family convertible. Jean says, “ The shelter
told me all I needed was a fenced in yard
and a couch. She is the new love of my life!
And she does love that couch….”

A Lab and King Charles Spaniel mix may seem unusual, but it makes for one super cute dog! Shadow was
adopted by Peggie as a 9 month old puppy because she did not get along with her previous family’s dog.
In fact, she spent most of her days in a crate. “It was love at first sight. We renamed her Shadow, because
she is so affectionate and she immediately started to follow me everywhere. I get no privacy, but I love it!”
We think Shadow knows a good thing when she sees it.

Chloe is a beautiful 5 year old St. Bernard adopted from the RISPCA by Karen and family. “When Chloe
lost her home to foreclosure, she also lost her doggie brother, and two kitty sisters. I saw her at the shelter,
looked into those big brown eyes, and that was it! I just had to give her a new home.” Chloe has fit right into
her new home. She takes the bottom of the bed and Pepe, the 14 year old cat sleeps at the top. With
Chloe weighing in at about 120 pounds, where everyone else sleeps is a mystery!

interest in us, but we

How big is your heart? If you are Corry, new
mom to 13 year old Chip, it’s huge. Chip
ended up at the RISPCA after his owners
were divorced and his dad could not find an
apartment allowing large dogs. After living in
his truck for a few months he realized it was
best to give up Chip. Senior dogs are much
harder for shelters to adopt out, and a special
person was needed to bring Chip into their
heart and home. Corry and family to the
