American made cars.
It would be nice to have most of our

THE BEAST …
Jim Lane loves Corvettes. He has
owned several Corvettes over the
years and his and Chase’s stable
currently house three Vettes. But
without question the 1973 big block
454 seems to be Jim’s favorite. He
has almost completed his rebuild of
this awesome Vette and it is an eye
popper. Jim refers to it as “The
Beast” and when you hear him crank
it you know why.
When you talk cars with Jim it does
not take long to know he loves the
vintage Vettes. He has had several
and his expertise is unmatched.
It is refreshing to see the classic
Stingrays at our cruise ins and just
down right awesome to see the big
blocks. For us boomers when we
see the Sting Rays or hear that throb
of the big block you can’t help but
think of ‘back in the day’. Make no
mistake about it, Jim’s 454 is one
beautiful Sting Ray.

Flowers and more …
Dennis and Marsha Doebler are more
than just great neighbors they are an
inspiration for landscaping, which is
their hobby.
Dennis and I have always enjoyed the
outdoors around our home in so many
ways. We have tried planting various
shrubs around our property. I guess you
could call it experiential since we try it
and see if it works out or not. Other
times we plant it because we just simply
like it. Dennis enjoys surprising
Marsha with plants, like the time he
brought home some seeds of columbine
from President Andrew Jackson's
Hermitage. Now columbine grows
everywhere in our yard. I have given
columbine seeds to everyone that I
know or requests them. Friends and
neighbors have given us plants too.
Spring, especially the month of May, is
the best time for our yard because that
is when one will see many azaleas,
Knockout roses, columbines, daffodils,
irises, Stella d'oros, and the Japanese
dogwood showing out. Walking around
the yard, you may spot some of our
statues and birdhouses. Dennis keeps all
the bird feeders and blue bird houses in
working order. He is the protector as
well, as he keeps watch for any raccoons
who might think they can climb up one
of our feeders for a free meal. Our
baffles work well to keep the squirrels
out of the feeders. We enjoy watching
the many species of birds that come and
eat daily at our feeders. It's neat to
watch the hummingbird feeding from
the feeder and the flowers too. I keep a
plant diary that I refer to each spring
when Dennis and I purchase annuals for
my pots. I found it to be helpful to
remind me of the number of plants I
need to fill our pots that I place on the
deck and around the yard. I also write
down observations of what grew well or
suggestions for future plantings. My
love of working out in the yard came
from my parents. My parents kept a
small garden as well as growing flowers
and shrubs. It was a family activity
when we were together and it has stuck
with me. So, if you would like to see
plants, from A (azaleas) to Z (Zebra
grass), I might have it or I can find it for
you in one of my flower books or
magazines. .
