The vacation home is located on the beautiful North Shore of Kauai between Wainiha
and Heana on the map above(see arrow) This area is Kauai’s most secluded and tropical.
.Just beyond the Princeville Resort and across a one-lane bridge into Hanalei Town, you
enter a tropical paradise of numerous coves with golden beaches set against the backdrop
of lush mountains. From Hanalei town, a series of one-lane bridges transport the visitor
approximately 5 miles to the pristine natural beauty that surrounds the vacation home.
After leaving Hanalei, there is little commercial development and the road winds between the
ocean and mountains. A series of one-lane bridges cross small streams. The crossing of two
consecutive one-lane bridges marks a point approximately 1 mile from the vacation cottage.
The cottage is located two blocks from the Hanalei Colony Resort, a small resort of 48 units on 5ocean front acres. There is a gourmet restaurant, coffee shop and day spa at the resort.

The cottage is two blocks from the beach and on the road that winds its way for another
mile to a glorious end at Kee Beach. Kee beach marks the starting point of the Na Pali
coast hiking trail. The arrow marks the approximate location in Heana of the vacation
home. To the left (east) and on the beach is the Hanalei Colony Resort. .
The beach is a golden curve of sand caught between aquamarine seas and emerald green
mountains. From the beach, you can see glorious sunrises across Hanalei Bay and
brilliant sunsets against the rugged Na Pali coast.

Tunnels beach is just over 1/2 miles from the vacation home and is
the superb snorkeling spot on the North Shore and has the opportunity to swim with
the turtles. The beach is 2-miles long, The center portion has a huge half-moon
shaped reef just 1/8 mile offshore where snorkeling is the best.
Tunnels Beach is one of Kauai’s most exciting spots for swimming, snorkeling and scuba
diving. What makes it so great is its large lagoon and its massive hook-shaped reef that
provides protection from the surf. The reef here is so big, it can actually be seen from
space. According to divers, it’s called “Tunnels Beach” because of all the tunnels and
arches in the reef. But surfers often say it’s from the tubular or tunnel-shaped waves that
are frequently found at this beach.
Snorkelers love to explore the inner reef with its crevices and cavities that often have fish
and other sea life. Divers prefer the outer reef because of its tunnels and caverns. Surfers
and body boarders obviously love this beach for those perfect tunnel shaped waves, but
Tunnels is also a favorite spot for windsurfers.
The reefs here provide enough protection that Tunnels Beach is usually calm enough for
first time snorkelers – and it’s probably the only beach on Kauai’s north shore that is. The
exception to this is in the winter months when you must check the conditions. The sea
becomes very rough and dangerous at times.
For the young at heart, you can walk on the beach to Tunnels. You can also drive but parking is
limited so get there early.

Just a few notes on nearby activites:
The vacation home is the gateway to hiking the famous NaPali Coast, HANAKAPIAI TRAIL
Just over 1 mile to the west from the vacation home, the road ends at the trail head of the NaPali Coast
hiking trail. Day use to Hanakapiai is open to public. Overnight camping and hiking past the first beach,
Hanakapiai requires permits from the State of Hawaii DLNR in Lihue.
Be ready to breath hard on this technical trail with lots of vertical – often slippery footing. Swimming
conditions at the beaches are extremely dangerous.

Enter a gate from the main road into your vacation hom. The vacation home is on an 8,000 sq foot corner
lot in a residential neighborhood. There is a gated entry and perimeter fencing for the safety of children.
Enjoy the exclusive use of this property. From the top living area surrounded by tropical foliage, you can
not see another property. The home is located on the main road that dead end approximately 1 miles on
the west end. In the early morning and throughout the day there is some traffic from surfers and
beachgoers traveling to Tunnels and Kee Beaches and to hike the Na Pali Coast. There is little traffic at
night.
