2001 WAS A YEAR in which many young people lost their lives due to gang wars. I have known
boys and girls fifteen to eighteen years old who were
stabbed to death by their rival gang group. That year
the Lord started to put a burden in my heart about the
gang groups in our city. I started to pray for a month
and seek the heart of God.
I prayed for this group and asked the Lord to
give me the leaders of these gangs. The Lord
granted the desire of my heart. One Friday
I met the leader of the “AMA Gang,” Brother
Jopet Papa, and invited him to join us in a meeting
in our center. Amazingly, the leader of the other gang
(called “Ground Metal Gang”), Brother Richie Calvo,
also came to that meeting. I was not aware that these
two big gangs were at that time mortal enemies.
They could not see eye to eye. When they crossed
ways, bloody gang wars started. The greatest miracle
happened after my preaching of the Word. The two
gang leaders were the very first people to commit
their life to the Lord, and that triggered the other

members to do the same.
After a week’s time, the most touching reconciliation
meeting happened in the very place where they
usually fought their war: Mendoza Park. The two gang
groups made peace with one another and ended
their fighting. Hallelujah! Today the two leaders are
committed in their walk with God.
We now have a ministry called G.A.N.G.S 4 GOD,
which stands for “Gangs Active In God’s Service.”
We have a regular Sunday evening service where we
bring gang leaders and their members for fellowship
and reconciliation meetings.

A. AN EDUCATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Child Sponsorship Program – Our desire is to help
these children and youth to go back to school and be
provided with a brighter future.
Organize Short Term Technical Trainings – for those
who cannot/do not want to do a normal four-year
training.
B. A SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Skills training program – like air-conditioning, basic electrical house wiring, electronics, cellphone repair,
carpentry, metal works, engine mechanics, etc.
C. A LIVELIHOOD AND ENTERPRISE
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
We are dreaming to be able to establish our General Services Business and other possible businesses to bless our community. We will establish
a center where people can come if they need a
plumber, electrician, technician or other services.
D. A HALFWAY HOME AND COUNSELING
CENTER FOR THE YOUTH
A temporal home to care and minister to young
people who have been rejected
and abused.
E. A SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
A training center for those who are willing to be
used for the glory of God as pastors, teachers,
evangelists and missionaries.

orking with the street gangs of our city is
W
not an easy task. It requires commitment,
understanding and patience in order to win their
hearts. It takes more than just preaching the
Word; we must make what we preach be seen and
experienced by these young people. They have been
rejected, hurt, and abandoned, but after months and
years of walking with them side by side, we have
seen tremendous transformations in their lives.
One day, a number of them came to me and
expressed their desire to go back to school. At first
we felt totally overwhelmed. It seemed impossible
for us to help them see this dream come true, to give
them another chance of going back to school.
We are a small church whose
members are mostly street youth
and dropouts. Few are students
and most don’t have enough
resources themselves. We
do not have the capacity to
finance a program to help
them finish their schooling.
However, due to the eagerness
of these young people, we were
challenged to step out in faith
and try to do the impossible.
We sent six students to
school in 2005, five of which
were able to make it through
the school year. Helping the
students in this way was not

easy, as our church was only able to give them some
money for transportation. We could not help them
with their expenses like food, school projects and
other needs. But our God is faithful and miraculously
they were able to survive that year.
In 2006 we sent twenty-three young people from
the gangs to different schools – again by faith. We
thank God for our missionary Felix Dexel who has
seen and felt the need and shared his heart to help us
find sponsors for these youth. We call this program
CSP (Child Sponsorship Program). Its main vision is
to encourage people and institutions to support our
youth, so they can pursue their dreams of finishing
school and become productive young people.
We believe that these former street youth will become
professionals who can make valuable contributions to
society and help send other gang members to school,
who in turn can become a blessing to their families
and society. Amen!

is Edine Castillo. He is a
Chapter Leader of the
“Ground Metal” Gang.
He now takes a course
in metal craft welding
technology in the Puerto
Princesa School of Arts
and Trade.
He is also now one of
our active leaders in the
church. We are blessed
to see him excel in his
subjects and being active
in the school where many teachers are also blessed by him.
He was very notorious as a gang leader in his community. He always led gang wars
and caused all kinds of trouble. Because of that chaotic lifestyle he did not have
the desire to finish an education beyond high school, but when he got born again
and his life was transformed, the Lord encouraged him to take a vocational course.
Besides this, he tries now to influence his gang members to live a life that pleases
God. Amen!
