Clothes get ultra clean while remaining odor free, with noticeably vivid colors, truer darks, and brighter whites. In some cleaning processes, including home laundry, the dirt that was removed can resettle back onto clothing. Over time, these particles can accumulate on a garment and, if not removed, can cause garments to look grey or dull – sometimes permanently. A difference may not be noticeable on the first cleaning, but can become apparent overtime. Solvair has been designed to prevent this re-­‐settling from happening, so clothes get cleaner, last longer, and continue to look their best. In home laundry, conventional drycleaning or any other process that uses heat drying, a stain is not removed prior to drying can become permanently set by the heat. Light colored stains, like clear soft drinks or white wine, may not be visible until it is too late. Since Solvair does not use heat for drying, the risk of newly set stains is virtually eliminated. The Solvair process features a heat-­‐free drying that rinses clothes in cold baths of liquid carbon dioxide (CO2). Clothes float in liquid and CO2 vapor, cushioning them from tumbling damage, which increases the life of garments. Heat-­‐free drying also reduces the risk of water-­‐based shrinkage and makes Solvair ideal for handling delicate items. Regular cleaning of garments is important since stains and dirt can permanently damage the composition of clothing fibers if left untreated. Solvair thoroughly removes more of these damaging soils than any other process, helping clothes look better and last longer. In all other traditional dry cleaning, wet cleaning, or CO2 cleaning, many stains need to be treated by hand both before and after cleaning. With Solvair, the cleaning process is so effective that the need for stain removal by hand is nearly eliminated. A key ingredient of the Solvair cleaning fluid is Dipropylene Glycol n-­‐Butyl Ether (DPnB) which was carefully selected because of its low volatility and extremely low toxicity characteristics. DPnB is readily biodegradable into water and CO2 and was deliberately chosen due to its superior cleaning ability and a history of use in a wide range of everyday products, including many common household cleaners. The CO2 used in Solvair has been captured from other emission sources and put it to use in the Solvair process. The reclaimed CO2 is then purified and re-­‐used multiple times by Solvair. It does not contribute to green house gases or smog formation. Solvair has built-­‐in systems to purify and reuse the biodegradable cleaning liquid, the CO2 and water used by the process. Solvair’s waste rates are also half that of conventional cleaning. Solvair: Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award -­‐2010 Solvair Cleaning System was honored with a 2010 sustainability awards by Illinois Governor and the University of Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ITSC). The Solvair technology was selected for this prestigious award based on a thorough evaluation of Solvair’s overall system design and environmentally responsible features by the ISTC and the Governor’s Office. In a congratulatory letter to Solvair, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn stated “Your organization’s commendable green practices serve as a model of environmental stewardship for residents, businesses, and institutions throughout our State.” According to the ISTC, organizations are honored for their significant achievements in protecting the environment, helping sustain the future, and improving the economy. Environmental Stewardship Award from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection-­‐2010 Craft Cleaners of Princeton, NJ, received the Environmental Stewardship Award from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection which recognizes Craft for efforts in being an environmentally responsible company, including its investment in the Solvair Cleaning System. The categories for which Craft received recognition were Hazardous Materials Reduction and Materials Conservation. The company received a plaque from DEP Assistant Commissioner Wolfgang Skacel stating, “The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection recognizes Craft Cleaners for its voluntary and proactive measures taken to go beyond compliance in an effort to improve the environment and ensure a sustainable future." Indiana Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence 2009 Jeffersonville, Indiana-­‐based Nu-­‐Yale Cleaners received the 2009 Indiana Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. At the time of the award Nu-­‐Yale Cleaners had two installed Solvair machines, by replacing the use of conventional drycleaning with Solvair; Nu Yale reduced its hazardous waste by 2,071 pounds per year and waste water by 3,465 pounds per year. Now, they have phased out conventional drycleaning entirely and operate with five Solvair machines and wet-­‐cleaning. Manhattan Chamber of Commerce 2009 Green Business of the Year Award The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce (MCC) awarded its 2009 Green Business of the Year Award for 2009 to David Kistner, Founder and President of Green Apple Cleaners.
