The Sunnyside Resort Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge has been a landmark on Lake Tahoe since the 1950s because it is the ultimate lakefront place to eat or stay. With our location right on the shores of Lake Tahoe's west side, Sunnyside has become the place to be on the Lake for locals and visitors alike. Classic, lodge-style décor make each of Sunnyside's 23 guestrooms and suites an inviting place to sink into after the day's activities. Goose-down comforters add a cozy touch, and private patios and decks mean the crisp, clean outdoors is just steps away. Jimmy Beans Wool is a brick and mortar and ecommerce yarn shop based in The Biggest Little City, Reno, Nevada. It all began when Laura (co-owner/founder of JBW) learned to knit in the Bay Area before she and her husband Doug relocated to the Lake Tahoe area. Both had been software engineers in Silicon Valley, but after changing elevation and the discovery of Laura's knitting obsession, they were bitten by the yarn bug and never looked back. Laura and Doug opened the original shop in 2002. It was a 500 square foot space in downtown Truckee, CA, and included both yarn and a coffee cart. Yarn quickly proved to be more in demand than the coffee and was soon phased out, though the coffee "beans" in Jimmy Beans Wool remains. By day Laura ran the small yarn shop, and by night Doug (after his real job) built the JBW website from scratch. Soon their online storefront was live, the first online order was placed, and the orders just kept coming. Before too long the 500 square feet wasn’t enough, and JBW relocated the shop Reno, Nevada. They now call a 20,000 warehouse and retail space home, have about 50 people on staff, and continue to provide the fiber-enthusiasts at home and abroad with endless yarny goodness. Lorilee Beltman This former yarn shop owner's experience providing answers for a steady stream of questioning knitters taught her the value of delivering an honest answer with kindness. Since 2009, she has enjoyed her students at national events and looks forward to meeting you in class! She urges her students to try projects that introduce new techniques. Lorilee is the Techniques columnist for Knitty.com, a Craft Yarn Council certified knitting instructor, a TNNA designer/teacher member, and an instructor at Craftsy.com and Interweave. Her articles and designs have been published in The Ultimate Hat Book, Blue Moon Fiber Arts Rockin' Sock Club, Vogue Knitting Magazine, Interweave Knits Magazine, Interweave Sockupied eMag, Twist Collective, and Beyond Toes by Judy Becker. Class Descriptions Colors that ClimbExplore various ways that color can be added when contrasting colored stitches climb vertically from round to round and row to row. These techniques do not inhibit the elasticity of the fabric. We’ll play with simple zigs and zags, colorful cables, lines between lace, and purl-only columns that look like caterpillars. We’ll explore it’s sketchy history- it is used in Rovaniemi knitting, as a substitute for duplicate stitch in argyle, and it even appears in a Japanese stitch dictionary. The magic is in the application. You'll be able to take existing patterns and add your own personal touch. Professional-Looking Cuffs Using the Magic Cast OnLearn to knit tidy, professional-looking cuffs and hems without crochet hook nor waste yarn. Class begins by learning Judy’s Magic Cast On. We proceed to knit in the round to learn first hand what a beautifully-tensioned invisible cast on can look like. Next we work a hemmed cuff, both plain and picot, without waste yarn nor sewing down bulky edges. Then create the professional and tidy tubular cast on in 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 rib, again without waste yarn nor crochet hook. These memorizable techniques will be your new “go-to” skills for provisional starts, and for sweater, hat and mitten cuffs. You'll feel very clever. For pricing information please contact Doreen Connors, Director of Advertising Sales at 212-937-2554 or [email protected].
