A Special Thank You
to Parishioner
Vicki Curran
(A portion of this article was in the bulletin the weekend that Vicky
received the `Benemerenti Award' from the Holy Father in 2010)
Mrs. Vicki Curran served as the Director of
Religious Education at St. Charles Borromeo for many
years. In 2010 she was recognized for her service to
the Parish and the Church by being awarded the
Benemerenti Medal by His Holiness Pope Benedict the
XVI. Along with other members of our Parish and
throughout the Archdiocese, Vicky and her family attended a special evening Vespers
Service at the Cathedral on November 7, 2010, during which she received that award.
Although probably not the highlight of her many years of volunteer service here in our
Parish, this was an occasion in which her Church had the opportunity to say Thank You
to her for her dedication and love. Her desire to help our children prepare for the
Sacraments, learn their faith, and be assured as members of our faith family was always
apparent. She helped coordinate our Baptismal Program for parents welcoming a new son
or daughter into their family, and she was actively involved with Safeguard the Children
in the Archdiocese. In addition, Vicki was a Master Catechist for the Archdiocese, and
helped many of our Catechists get accredited. We are very grateful to Vicki for her love
and concern for our Children and for Religious Education.
Vicky had retired from her position as Director of Religious Education for the Parish
and was honored last year by her family and friends at a Thank You Vicky Dinner. Our
Thanks and our Prayers, are heartfelt as we salute this lovely lady who worked so hard as
a volunteer in her Church. THANK YOU, VICKI!
Last Thursday morning, August 21, 2014, at 8:45 am Vicki was called forth from this life
to eternal life. She died at St. Joseph's hospital after a lengthy battle cancer, and infections.
She was a VALIANT woman, and her Church family is very grateful for your years of
service to our children and families here at St. Charles. We offer our sincere condolences
to her husband, Jerry, and her children Maeve and Dominic. In addition, we offer our
prayers for the French family and her siblings. A Mass of the Resurrection was offered for
Vicky on Wednesday, August 27. May she rest in peace!
Sincerely,
Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Gallagher Pastor

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Father Preston was assigned to St. Charles Borromeo for his first priestly
responsibilities. He was with us until 2012 when he was named Administrator
of St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Camarillo by Archbishop Gomez. While with
us, he was appointed for a time as Administrator of Our Lady of Peace Parish.
Last Sunday, August 24, several people from our parish went up to Camarillo
as Father Preston was installed officially as Pastor of St. Mary Magdalen
Parish by the Regional Episcopal Vicar, Msgr. Michael Jennette. It was a
beautiful ceremony, and Fr. Preston has our prayers and best wishes as
he assumes this new responsibility and service in our Church.

The monthly pledge billings for the Together in Mission pledges have been mailed. It is very important that

Please remember that if we do not meet our assigned goal, the parish is responsible for paying the deficit.
ST. CHARLES SCHOOL
NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY
Saint Charles Borromeo School, mindful of its
mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all,
admits students regardless of race, color, or
national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and
activities generally accorded or made available to students at our
school.
Saint Charles Borromeo School does not discriminate on the basis
of race, color, disability, sex, or national and/or ethnic origin in the
administration of educational policies and practices, scholarship
programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
While the school does not discriminate against students with
special needs, a full range of services may not always be available
to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued
enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student's
emotional, academic and physical abilities, and the resources
available to the school in meeting the student's needs.
