NEW! Four Cadaver Labs!
Expert Surgeons Providing Hands-On
Experience for Attendees
Transforming Plastic Surgery Education
Try the techniques out yourself!
You asked for it, so we did it! This year’s annual
meeting will offer cadaver labs for hands-on
learning, plus more non-surgical aesthetic
treatments, point-counterpoint debates,
and more!
See you in the ThunderDome!
PSTM15 continues the transformation of the
way ASPS delivers plastic surgery education.
Over the past 3 years, we have actively infused
new topics, new speakers, new tracks, new
formats, and new ideas.
Jeffrey E. Janis, MD, FACS
Board VP of Education
Karol A. Gutowski, MD, FACS
Program Chair
Practice Management – The prescription for Success!
I am particularly excited about the increased emphasis on Practice
Management issues in this year’s meeting. There are very few
venues that can give the practicing plastic surgeon guidance
in this area, addressing the broad range of issues that
we all face.
Matthew Concannon, MD
Instructional Course Co-Chair

Will You Join Us?

loaded like never before with topics
ranging from simple to advanced

reconstructive topics.

related to the FDA and the recommendations regarding fat grafting
and stem cells.
The meeting has an outstanding
faculty comprised of surgeons from
different specialties that are all world
class, preeminent presenters and
educators.
Maurice Nahabedian, MD
Program Vice Chair
Why would you
use anything other
than AlloDerm®
in your patient?
There’s a reason AlloDerm® Regenerative Tissue Matrix is used
more than any other tissue matrix in breast reconstruction.1
• Unparalleled published clinical evidence†
• Unsurpassed tissue regeneration*
• Unequaled coding, coverage and reimbursement2
Contact a LifeCell representative today at www.lifecell.com
Before use, physicians should review all risk information, which can
be found in the Instructions for Use attached to the packaging of each
LifeCell™ Tissue Matrix graft.

Our goal is to promote safe and effective surgery for children with clefts wherever they may be.
We have assembled an outstanding faculty who are leaders in cleft surgery in the US and have broad
experience in overseas surgery as well.
At the end of this symposium attendees should be familiar with:
• different types of overseas volunteer organizations,
• multiple aspects of global health as it relates to surgical disease, and
• current techniques in cleft lip and palate surgery.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2015
Cleft lip and palate repair represent the core of plastic surgery and are central to the ASMS.
This symposium addresses the challenges of delivering cleft care in the underdeveloped world.
We plan a two pronged approach, taking an in-depth look at:
• the surgical aspects of global health and
• reviewing techniques of cleft surgery for those planning to participate in volunteer missions overseas.
Topics range from the organization of teams to the utility of speech surgery on mission trips.
Point-counterpoint discussions will address controversial topics such as the role of residents in
mission trips and the utility of secondary surgery in these settings.

The Good but Not Great Result – The
Cost of Breast Surgery Revision
This panel will explore outcomes from
aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery
that the panelists have encountered in their
own practices. Outcomes will be reasonable,
but not “perfect” – both revision surgery and
“do nothing” will be viable options, and the
decision to offer more surgery or not will be
subjective. The panelists will then reveal how
they managed the outcome, provide a rationale,
and also provide a cost for performing these
revisions. Other options for handling the cases
and the cost will also be presented.
No result is truly “perfect”, but now its your
turn: how would you handle the case? Vote on
the option that you feel is the best.

2015 HONORED GUEST NATIONS
A Special Welcome to…
British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive
and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS)
And
Royal Belgian Society for Plastic Surgery
(RBSPS)
BAPRAS
President: Mr. Nigel Mercer
Deputy President: Mr. Graeme Parks
British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons
(BAPRAS) is the voice of plastic surgery in the UK, advancing education in
all aspects of the specialty and promoting understanding of contemporary
practice. BAPRAS speaks for the majority of reconstructive and aesthetic
plastic surgeons providing services to patients in the UK today.
Founded in 1946 in the aftermath of World War II, as the British Association
of Plastic Surgeons, the Association had the objectives of relieving
sickness and protecting and preserving public health by the promotion and
development of plastic surgery. The aim of the Association was to advance
education in all aspects of plastic surgery. Today, these objectives remain.
However, techniques and expertise have progressed to the extent that plastic
surgery needs to be understood in a modern, wider context. As innovative
techniques develop, both reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery inform
each other. The one improves the other, and vice versa, which can only be in
the interest of all patients.
As the voice of plastic surgery, BAPRAS sees its role as increasing the
understanding of the scope of plastic surgery. We aim to raise the profile of
plastic surgeons as an intrinsic element of care teams providing specialist
care to patients with a wide range of conditions. Continuing our objective of
advancing education, BAPRAS is always looking to promote innovation within
the specialty of plastic surgery.

RBSPS
President RBSPS and GBS: Dr. Frans Missotten (Leuven)
1955 - 2015
President-elect RBSPS and GBS: Dr. Gaëtan Willemart (Brussels)
The Belgian Society for Plastic Surgery was founded in 1955. The five
founding members were Dr. M. Coelst, Dr. A. de Coninck, Dr. J. Polus, Dr. A.
Fardeau and Dr. C. Steenbruggen. The initiator, Dr. Maurice Coelst, was the
first honorary member.
The object of the Society was the scientific study of plastic surgery and related specialties and the organization of
congresses and lectures to promote the development of plastic surgery.
Initially a small group of just five members, the society has grown into a major organization with over 230 members,
including: 80 nominal members, 20 affiliated members and 75 aspiring members. In addition the Society has 12
honorary members and 16 foreign members.
Nominal members are officially recognized Belgian and Luxemburg plastic surgeons who confine their practice to
plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and have made major scientific contributions to the Society’s activities.
With the extension of plastic surgery the Society’s name was changed to ëBelgian Society for Plastic, Reconstructive
and Aesthetic Surgery. Today the Society has sub-committees for the study of burns, microsurgery and aesthetic
surgery.
Twice a year the Society awards a prize to a personal, scientific study of exceptional quality by a Belgian or Luxemburg
plastic surgeon or assistant in training. Plastic surgery is a fast growing specialty that is still evolving. Plastic surgeons
have extended their range to include microsurgery, endoscopic surgery and laser treatments.
The Royal Belgian Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (became “Royal” in 2005 for its 50th
anniversary) is committed to keeping its members up to date with all new developments and novelties.

Moderators: Nigel Mercer, MD, President, British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (BAPRS) and
Gaëtan Willemart, MD, President, The Royal Belgian Society of Plastic Surgeons (RBSPS)
Many advances in plastic surgery have occurred in military field hospitals and were borne out of the horrors of war.
From the trenches of World War I to the jungles of Vietnam to the deserts of present day conflicts, field trauma
surgeons have helped raise plastic surgery to new heights and have inspired unimagined growth and refinement
of the specialty.
Our guest nations, BAPRAS and RBSPS, will provide the historical context necessary to discuss contemporary
plastic surgery in times of conflict, the challenges of delivering surgical care in austere and compromised
environments, and how lives are saved and hopes restored through plastic surgery advancements at the hands
of military reconstructive surgeons.
