Contact: Telephone: E-Mail: David Mariner 202.682.2245 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 29th, 2011 DC Center Announces New Leadership for 2011 New Board Members, Board Officers, and New Officers for SAGE Metro DC and the HIV Working Group January 11, 2011 - The Board of Directors of the DC Center for the LGBT Community recently elected board members and officers at its annual meeting. Returning to the Board of Directors are Michael Sessa, Joseph Palacios, Michelle Ross, Art Hernandez, Jim Marks, and Pat Hawkins. New to the Board of Directors are Ron Clayton and Clare Shepherd. Ron Clayton currently volunteers as the coordinator of the DC Center Career Development Program, which he first launched in June, 2009. Clare Shepherd has been involved in the DC Center in many capacities for over three years. Clare has been a volunteer, and an intern. She also worked for the DC Center through the District of Columbia Summer Youth Employment Program. Ms. Shepherd is a recent graduate of American University. Members of the DC Center’s Board of Directors are elected by existing Board Members and serve for three year terms. DC Center Board Officers for 2011 are: Michael Sessa, President (returning), Michelle Ross, Vice President (new), Art Hernandez, Treasurer (returning), Jim Marks, Treasurer (returning), and Ron Clayton, Chief Communications Officer (new). In addition, The HIV Working Group and SAGE Metro DC (both programs of the DC Center) have also elected new leadership for 2011. GLOV expects to elect new leaders at their next meeting. SAGE Metro DC has elected Alan Dinsmore as Chair, Sandy Douglas as Vice Chair, Ken South as Treasurer, and Cedric Burgess as Secretary. Joseph Kapp is the outgoing chair of SAGE Metro DC. David Mariner, Executive Director of the DC Center stated: “We were truly fortunate to have Joe Kapp lead SAGE Metro DC and appreciate everything he has done to help us move forward.” The HIV Working Group has elected Calvin Gerald and Brandon Corbin as Co-Chairs, and Monnika Reasoner as Treasurer. Outgoing chair of the HIV Working Group is Dan O’Neill. Mariner stated: “Dan O’Neill was the founder and visionary for our HIV Working Group. This group would not be in existence today without his hard work and leadership. I’m thrilled that Dan will stay involved in the HIV Working Group and truly appreciate everything he has done for us.” The DC Center also welcomes five new interns this semester, Anthony Thomas, Alexander Terpening, Johnnie Drew, Mary Nguyen, and Joshua Dowling. David Mariner, Executive Director of the DC Center, stated “I am excited about all of our new board members, program officers, and interns.
