In some Latin countries, couples wear rings on their right hands when they become engaged. Once they marry, they move the rings to their left hands. In Colombian weddings, bachelors place a shoe under the dress of the bride. The groom chooses one shoe from under the dress, and tradition says that this is the next young man who will get married. The night before a Costa Rican wedding, the groom usually serenades the bride to show everyone how he feels about her. Déjenla a la pobrecita Déjenla que ponga diez I know a neighbor Who has bought a hen That looks like a canned sardine It has wire legs Because it’s very hungry And the poor thing is completely plucked It lays eggs on the table and also in the kitchen But it never lays them in the corral The silly hen Is really crazy The silly hen Is really crazy The silly hen has laid an egg Has laid two, has laid three The silly hen has laid four, has laid five, has laid six The silly hen has laid seven, has laid eight, has laid nine… Where is that hen? Leave the poor thing alone Let her lay ten Where is that hen? Leave the poor thing alone Let her lay ten La Despedida/The Farewell (Click link below for additional verses) Ha llegado el momento de decir adiós, Si nos vamos nos quedamos decidilo vos Encontramos un amigo en cada canción Es hora de despedirse Hasta la próxima función A ver, a ver, preparen el saludito A ver, a ver y suelten el corazón A ver, a ver, adiós nuestros amiguitos A ver, a ver, así me despido yo The moment has arrived to say goodbye If we go, if we stay, you decide We find a friend in every song It’s time to say goodbye Until the next event Let’s see, let’s see, prepare a wave Let’s see, let’s see, set our hearts free Let’s see, let’s see, goodbye to our little friends Let’s see, let’s see, that’s how I say goodbye For a printable version of all song lyrics, please click on the link below: Songs of the Month MISS ERIKA’S ENGLISH NEWS Hello parents, April was a very exciting month for the kids. They read new books and got to plant seeds for Earth week. They were also very excited about finding 41 words that start with the letter F (the most words we have gotten this year). For the month of May we will be reviewing the alphabet and numbers, along with reviewing the vowels and shapes. We will also be having evaluations for the Argentina class. The three year old class does not get evaluated until next year. We have also been working very hard on our song for the show and all of the kids are very excited. Best wishes, Miss. Erika Parents’ Corner S CCor May is the last month of school! For this reason the following policy has been implemented: May Tuition is due on the 1st. Tuition not paid by May 4th will be charged a late fee, and your child will be unable to attend school until the last payment is made. Summertime Learning As we head into summer, parents can keep the learning going at home with these tips to keep busy little minds growing! Counting – Ask your child to help set the table. “How many people will be eating with us? Can you count four napkins? Four placemats?” Count how many books you’d like to read, the number of people in a line, or how many steps to our neighbor’s house. Find counting opportunities all around! Grouping/Sorting/Comparing – Let’s organize the pantry! “Can you put the cans of soup on one shelf, the cans of beans on a second shelf, and the cans of vegetables on the third? Which shelf has the most/least cans?” Sort and match socks, art supplies, blocks, and more. Writing – Find fun mediums to write with besides paper/pencil. Have your child trace his/her name or letters in shaving cream, or flour (on a tray or cookie sheet). Form letters with spaghetti or clay. Fill a baggie with hair gel and food coloring, then have him use his finger to form letters in the gel. Use a Q-tip and paint to write letters. Fine Motor Skills – Tweezers and kitchen tongs can be used to pick up objects large and small. Pick up blocks and deposit them into different sized containers. Pick up beans/seeds and place them carefully into an art project, or sort them into containers. Create 3-D art with toothpicks and marshmallows or grapes. Try some threading activities with pipe cleaners, straws or pasta as a fun way to create some wearable jewelry/art! Reading – Identify letters, their sounds, and words wherever you go on signs, products, menus, etc. Practice rhyming words, and changing up nursery rhymes with funny words. If you are traveling, look at maps of your route and destination. Read, read, read, and talk, talk, talk! English, Spanish, or another language; the more exposure to sounds and words, the better! Spanish – Look for Spanish Story Times in your area and/or check out audiobooks from the library. Play Spanish music and sing along! Cartoons or sports in Spanish are also fun.
