At our Government Center, residents can tend to building
permits, police reports, mail, library services and more
The 54,000 square-foot Sunny Isles
Beach Government Center, opened in
January, 2005, is located in a pedestrian
friendly area at the heart of the City.
The Government Center presents its
most public expression toward Collins
Avenue and is represented by the
Commission Chamber surrounded by a
civic plaza combining landscape, water,
and contrasting building materials.
This is where the serious business of
running the City is conducted. Meetings
are generally held the third Thursday of
each month.
But what is housed inside this vision?
Through inter-governmental partnerships, the first floor is primarily dedicated
to services not under the City’s administration. Through the Federal Government, a satellite branch of the United
States Post Office is open Monday–
Friday. In cooperation with Miami-Dade
County, the Sunny Isles Beach branch
library is open Monday–Saturday and
offers many classes and programs utilizing the City’s meeting room on the first
floor. With support from the Sunny Isles
Beach Tourism and Marketing Council,
the Visitor Center completes the first
floor, offering a wealth of information for
tourists or residents looking to find
“something to do” in South Florida.
The Center also issues SIB Resident ID
Cards for those with a picture ID and
utility bill as proof of residence. Tickets
to SIB Cultural Events may be purchased
there along with branded merchandise
depicting SIB, florida’s riviera or Sunny
Isles Beach, Miami.
The second floor houses the SIB Police
Department which is open 24/7. During
regular business hours, elevators from
the lobby take customers to the 2nd floor.
After hours, the police department can
be accessed via the 2nd level of the parking
garage. Accident and crime reports may
be requested at the records department.
The third floor of the Government
Center is the place for residents, visitors
and contractors to visit and address issues
of code enforcement and parking, apply
for building permits or obtain business
licenses. Fire plan reviews from MiamiDade County are also offered on Tuesdays at this location.
The fourth floor houses the city commission, the offices of the city attorney,
clerk and manager along with human
resources and finance departments.
Constituents may make appointments
to meet with their elected officials over
matters that concern them. Public
record requests are handled here by the
City clerk.

City Manager’s Quarterly Report
The City of Sunny Isles Beach: Good news is abundant at this time
As the Fall season is upon us, we are realizing the results of
our hard work in a number of important areas over the year. For our City,
good news is abundant at this time. This is true across the spectrum from all
the wonderful Cultural and Community programs planned for the remainder
of the year, to the progress made on capital projects and long term planning
initiatives. Just a couple of the more exciting updates are addressed here.
Through the ongoing efforts of the City Commission and our Mayor,
in concert with the Mayors of all beachfront communities in Miami-Dade
County, we now have the blueprint for action that will initiate beach mitigation
projects and facilitate beach sand re-nourishment projects over the next few
years throughout the county.

For each event the County will announce the HEC that accepts pets.
Hurricane Watches
Residents should follow hurricane watches closely. Even if a hurricane warning or
an evacuation order is not issued, City parks and beaches may be closed due to high
winds. Residents should clear balconies and secure objects in the yard. The MiamiDade County School Board will decide when to close the Norman S. Edelcup SIB
K-8 School. When the public school is closed, the City’s After School Program will
also be closed. The SIB Community Shuttle Bus service will stop running when
sustained winds reach 30 mph. Information regarding City services will be most
current on the web at sibfl.net.
Hurricane Warning
Hurricane warnings are issued 36 hours in advance of anticipated tropical storm force
winds. Residents and visitors must complete storm preparations and immediately
evacuate if directed. A family should take a 72 hour supply of food, water, medications, and cash to purchase necessary items if the evacuation becomes extended.
Evacuations
If Miami-Dade County gives the order to evacuate Zone B, all visitors in hotels
and residents in condos and single-family homes are required by Florida law to
evacuate. There will be no emergency services available once the island is evacuated.
Try to evacuate to the home of a friend or family member who lives outside of the
evacuation zones. Use a Red Cross Hurricane Evacuation Center (HEC) only as a
last resort. Hotel staff will assist their guests with other accommodations.
Red Cross Hurricane Evacuation Centers & Bus Pickup Locations
When an evacuation order is given, open Hurricane Evacuation Centers (HECs)
will be listed on local radio, television stations and at Miami-Dade County Call
Center at 311 (305.468.5900, TTY/TDD 305.468.5402). Every shelter may not
be open for every event. The County provides free transportation to HECs from
predetermined pickup locations in Sunny Isles Beach:
Arlen House Condominiums, 158 Street & Collins Avenue
Winston Towers, 100 & 300 Buildings on 174 Street
Golden Shores Area, 189 Street & Collins Avenue

Notable additions to the calendar are dance classes during the day for
seniors and in the evenings for adults, university level classes with FIU professors
through the Sunny Isles Beach Learning Annex, increased space in the
After School Program and new programs for teens.
The survey also revealed that patrons are willing to pay for a program they
are interested in. The City typically subsidizes special events, however,

recreation programs are fee based. By Commission direction, the City
establishes fees to meet the anticipated break-even point. The City does not
plan to make a profit from program registration fees. We strive only to cover
expenses related to instructor fees and course materials. The City covers
operational expenses related to the facility and program administration without
passing those costs on to the customer. This methodology keeps the costs of
these programs reasonable for the benefit of our tax paying residents. The City
continues to work with the Miami-Dade County Public Library, Mount Sinai
Medical Center and other agencies to provide free programs for the community
when available.

Everything About
QUALITY OF L IFE
Once visitors find this wonderful vacation spot
that we call home, they return again and again.
Sometimes, the visitors become residents, drawn by
the walkable space, the family-friendly atmosphere
and the plethora of outdoor activities.
T
he quality of life is enhanced by
many factors such as high-end
homes, conveniently located retail
stores, a variety of community and
recreational programs, a complimentary shuttle bus service, and an
active senior population. These, as
well as the award winning Police
Department, our A-rated schools
and quality healthcare, are important
factors that draw buyers to purchase
here in Sunny Isles Beach.
As you can see, the city offers a
variety of quality community and recreational programs. Working closely
with the schools and other community organizations, we believe in
developing the entire student: mind,
body and soul. The City’s High
School Graduates College Scholarship Program encourages students
to continue to a University after
high school.

Netanya
The Sister Cities International Program
was initiated in Sunny Isles Beach in 2005.
The program encourages the exchange of
culture, tourism and commerce between the
member cities. Sunny Isles Beach currently has
sister city partnerships with three cities:
Netanya, Israel
A sparkling and lively city that offers its visitors an international-style vacation. In Netanya
you will find beautiful beaches, elevators taking you down to the sea, seemingly neverending promenades, wild cliffs, rare nature preserves and green parks.
As a true resort town, you will find in Netanya plenty of entertainment, culture and
leisure centers: coffee houses, a variety of restaurants, shopping centers, a lively market,
movie theatres, art galleries, as well as various outdoor events and festivals that are held
during the summer and open to the public.
In 2015, ties between Sunny Isles Beach and Netanya are strengthened with the
opening of the City’s first Class A Office Building named One Netanya in honor of our
Sister City. This building is prominently located at the entrance to our City on Sunny
Isles Boulevard.
Taormina, Italy
Taormina is a small town on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, in the Province
of Messina. The village of Taormina is perched on a cliff overlooking the Ionian Sea and
is a forty-five minute drive away from Europe’s largest active volcano, Mount Etna.
Taormina is a popular tourist destination. Besides the Greek Theatre, it has many
beaches, old churches, lively bars, fine restaurants, and antique shops. Many exhibitions
and events are organized during the summer such as concerts and theatre performances.
