SEPTEMBER RECAP
September was a busy month at
Philips Academy. The 6th and 7th
grade and a lot of teachers went to the
Poconos for a week long trip.
Students went on a two-mile hike,
and even a night hike with no
flashlights. The food was delicious
and included gummy bears, Oreos
and chocolate pudding.
Back at
home, the 8th graders worked hard
on
their
personal
essays.
Cheerleading tryouts with the 5th
through 8th graders started on
September 24, and we are still waiting
for the roster to come out. Other girls
in the Upper School joined the Girls
on Track team and Lower school girls
joined the Girls on the Run team. The
girls are training to do a 5K run at the
end of the year. On Thursday,
September 24th, our whole school
celebrated Spanish Heritage Month
by singing and dancing in our
gymnasium. There were poems read
in Spanish by Lower and Upper
Schoolers, and the 5th graders
performed two dances, including the
Macarena, in front of the entire
school!
On Friday, September 25th, PACS
Family Math Night took place. Lots of
families came out to participate. There
were great math problems to solve. With
one problem, students had to figure out
how many pieces of candy were in a jar.
Students also gathered stickers in order
to participate in the DUNK TANK
CHALLENGE. A few teachers that got
got wet and dunked were Mr. Augello,
Mr. Porta, Mr. Farrell, Ms. Wolpert, Ms.
Kennedy and our very own principal,
Mr. Shultz.
September was a great month here at
PACS!

BACK TO
SCHOOL!
Now we all know what
comes to mind when it’s
time for school to start.
BOOKBAGS! I know what
we’re all thinking “My
bookbag has to be the
best.”
You
want
a
backpack that expresses
your personality. I’ve seen
a lot of cool book bags
these few weeks. For
instance, some book bags
I’ve seen have had really
bright colors with aztec
prints or galaxy designs.
Also,
I’ve
seen
an
awesome bookbag with a
ninja turtle on the bag,
which
expresses
this
person’s personality a lot.
It was also very unique. I
hope your bookbag brings
out
your
great
personality, and your
great fashion sense!

THE “BEAST”
CAR!
My favorite type of dance is hip
hop and contemporary. This picture
is about a group of girls in position
for a dance battle. Two of my
favorite shows to watch that involve
dance are Dance Moms and Bring It!
Dance Moms is a reality show based
on a group of girls and their mean
dance teacher named Abby Lee
Miller. The girls names are Nia, Jojo,
Maddie, Mackenzie, Kendall, and
Kalani. My 2 favorite dancers from
Dance Moms is Jojo and Mackenzie.
JoJo is one of my favorite dancers
because she is full of fire and has
enerjetic solos! I also can relate to her
because i love bows, too. On a show
called “Slumber Party” that involves
all of the dance mom girls, the girls
asked Jojo how many bows she had.
JoJo said that she had 560 bows in
total. I find that unbelievable!

Motors just launched their
new car of the year. This car
is known as THE BEAST,
aka Honda, which comes
with and without vtec. This
car is like an Integra with
about 700hp, and it has its
own engine called the K
series. This engine is chrome
with all black headers and
has a titanium. It also has
cloud suspension. The car
has a carbon fiber hood,
trunk, front splitter and
more.

Bailando! Hispanic Heritage Month has
arrived. This song you’re sure to know.
Bailando by Enrique Iglesias is a great song
to dance to. This catchy song was released in
2014, and won the Latin Grammy Award for
song of the year. Bailando is all about having
fun and dancing through the night. It’s one
of my favorite songs. Well, while we’re
talking about Hispanic Heritage month,
here are some other Hispanic songs that are
worth dancing to:
~ Hips Don’t Lie- Shakira
~We Are One (Ole Ola)- Pittbull
~Algo Me Gusta De Ti- Wisin & Handel
~Corazon Sin Cara- Prince Royce
I hope that you check these songs out,
you really should! These songs are worth
dancing to because their fast beat really
makes you want to salsa and cha cha!
At Pacs this month, we actually
celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. In our
Community Time, we watched the 5th
grade dance the Bambera and the Macarena.
I really enjoyed this dancing because the
students really showed how much they
liked the song.
In conclusion, Hispanic Heritage Month
was full of a lot of interesting things. Until
next month, have a good day, and add more
songs to your playlists.

I also like Mackenzie Ziegler. She is my
second favorite dancer from Dance Moms
because she doesn’t care what anyone thinks of
her. In one episode, Mackenzie bet her sister
Maddie in a competition. Usually Maddie
would be in first place, but instead of Maddie
beating her, Mackenzie beat her. Everyone was
so proud of Mackenzie for winning 1st place.
But on the other hand, Maddie wasn’t all that
happy. Mackenzie is 11 years old and is
productive in her school work and dance.
SNEAKER CENTRAL
Have you ever been to Foot Locker and had
no idea what to buy?
There’s so many choices to wrap your head around, it’s
almost like a maze! This information below will help you
out a lot and make your choices a whole lot easier. I know
you might be wondering why should we trust you? What
do YOU know about sneakers? Well, we are experts on
this topic, because we actually HAVE all these shoes, so
we know the perks and disadvantages. Take a look below!
Fila (Avg. 29.98) Fila shoes are great and all,
but they are NOT the way to go. If you are
looking for some sport shoes to play in, you
would be better off getting some Adidas.
Fila shoes just have a lack of style. If you want to look
good on the court, you don’t want to get these. In the
playing aspect they aren’t that good either. If you were
actually to look at the bottom of the shoe you could see
that they don’t have any grip. It’s a bad excuse for a
sneaker.
The lack of style was a reason why their sales aren’t doing
so well against the competition right now. These just
aren’t the way to go.
Adidas (Avg. 45.00) Adidas have been in
the shoe game for longer than many of the
other companies and they make their shoes
slightly different. Rather than bland designs
like Fila’s, they look like a lot of effort goes into them.
These sneakers are recommended SLIGHTLY.
They look somewhat better than the highly, highly
outdated Filas. In the playing aspect they are very good.
Their shoes have grip and you can be very active with
them, unlike with the Filas.
The lack of style has brought their sales down as well, but
not as drastic as the Filas. Adidas will be in the shoe
business for a while!
KD8 (Avg. 149.98) Think about everything I
described about the Adidas. Now multiply
that by 10. These sneakers are by FAR the
way to go. The designs are just beautiful.
The beauty of these sneakers are almost
unexplainable. They are the perfect combination of fabric,
plastic and everything in between! The playing aspect is
even better. Kd8’s have amazing grip, and there’s only
about a 15% chance that you’ll ever slip. This is one of the
best sneakers you can ever get. They have everything you
would ever need all in one. So it seems as if Kd8 has had
the broadest appeal, and inspired the style of many other
sneakers. They have a very high variety, including
“Durantula”, “4th of July”, and the newly released “Huntś
Hill Sunrise. All these amazing new releases makes
everyone crave these shoes. These new styles have
boosted their sales tremendously. I expect that these KD8
sneakers will end up going all the way to Kd18! Expect
these to be around for a very long time.
These sneakers all vary in style. But, overall it depends on
what you want to use them for. If you want some sneakers
to run track, you should get some Filas. If you really like
sports, you should get Adidas. If you want sneakers with
the broadest appeal, I recommend Kd7s. Of course,
everyone has their own taste, but here’s just a little help.
You're welcome!

NEW SEASON NEW GAMES
Call of Duty is one of the many new games
coming out this fall. Sony is scheduled soon to
release a Black Ops 3 Themed Play station. The
game costs $59.88 and will be in stores on
November 6, 2015.
NBA 2K 16 is the most popular release of the
Fall, arguably, the biggest release in sports
gaming for years. The game includes features
like the new pro-am, a my career story mode
designed by Spike Lee or a “Spike Lee Joint.”
And for an additional $20, you can buy a
custom NBA 2k 16 Michael Jordan edition. This
game will cost $60 so please buy this game
before it is sold out.
If you are a soccer fan, or if you like playing
soccer, then Fifa 16 is the game for you. This
game now has not only male players, but
females too; this is a big step for women in
sports. This game was just released on
September 22, 2015 and it costs $60.
Madden 16 was highly anticipated by
Madden fans. It came out August 25th. In
Madden 16, I feel that the catching in this game
is overrated, but I still like this game and
would say that it is very exciting. I feel like this
is one of the top 10 games of 2015. The
touchdown celebrations were upgraded in this
version so it is really worth playing!

“Bring It” is a show that stars a VERY
competitive team called the Dancing Dolls. The
dance style for the dancing is hip hop,
cheerleading, jazz, and lyrical. The reason why
I like this show the most is I like all of these
types of dance styles. My favorite part of the
whole show is the stand battle.
Here is a link of the girls from the dancing
dolls performing there stand battle against the
YCDT dance company:

FOOTBALL UPDATES
This week was a good week 2 in NFL football. A
lot of good games came on this week. Here are the
scores that showed close games:
Broncos VS Chiefs 31-24
Patriots VS Bills 40-32
Falcons VS Giants 24-20
(Not surprised that they lost)
Jags VS Dolphins 23-20
Raiders VS Ravens 37-33
Now for college football. My favorite college team
is Ohio St. which is ranked 1. Now that’s enough
about me. Here are the scores for college football:
Syracuse Vs LSU 34-24
Texas VS. Oklahoma St. 30-27
TCU VS. Texas Tech 55-52
Texas A&M VS Arkansas 28-21
Marshall VS Kent State 36-29
Nevada VS Buffalo 21-24
Those are the scores for college football this
week. Most of the other scores are blowouts which
I hate to see because the games are not fun
anymore. I think next week is going to be a better
week in football. I just have a feeling. And goo
Ohio St, Buckeyes.

FICTION CORNER
The Change
“Oh boy, oh boy…” I told myself thinking about my glorious
future and all. But let’s roll back a few steps. My name is
Samara C. Bennett and I was just thinking about the day my life
had changed forever. And here’s how it all began.
The moonlight had crept through my bedroom window when all
the lights had turned off. I was about to plop into bed when the
phone rang with a “RINGG!! RINGG!!RINNGGG!!!” My father
hustled out of his bed and walked sleepily towards the phone
line. I could remember the orange lit buttons gleaming dimly
around the room. My father reached for the light and sat heavy
on the bed.
Seconds later, he shut his bedroom door. My brother and I stared
at the door trying to listen for a sound. All we could hear were
faint murmurs and then soft laughter. A few minutes later, the
conversation still continued. I sat up quietly and hurried out of
bed to peer through the key hole.
“Okay Ashanti,” my father finished the sentence, “I’ll get back
in touch with you later.”
I knew it was my uncle on the other line! The lights flickered off
once again. I raced back into bed drifting off to sleep
wondering, “Why did my uncle call so late at night?”
In the morning, I asked my dad what had happened the night
before. “A quick family reunion,” he replied with a smile. From
then on, we started traveling all over the country to visit my
uncle and family. It was like a dream come true to meet family
members I had never seen before. Everyone was so happy to see
each other that apparently something had to be done.
And so, the family created a plan that we would move down
South with them and try to start a family business. I could
almost see every flyer and advertisement for what would be
coming next. And yet all I could think about was that this move
would change my life forever.
