OVERVIEW
Cairns Bed & Bar
Ltd wanted a vacant
space at Gilligan’s
Backpackers Hotel &
Resort transformed
into a sophisticated
nightclub with capacity
for 300 patrons. The
client also wanted
an outdoor deck
constructed using
existing roof space.
The client wanted the
nightclub to be ready
for the Christmas party
season so timelines
were critical.
HOTEL
SPECIALISTS
The client chose ISIS
on the basis of its
extensive experience
in the hotel, bar and
restaurant sector in
Queensland. The
fitout included many
unique features such
as display cases,
chandeliers, light
boxes and intricate
metal displays, which
required expert
site management
and attention to
detail. ISIS custom
made display cases
for the nightclub,
incorporating
toughened glass
and hidden locking
mechanisms.
Business Continuity
TIME CRITICAL
As construction
progressed,
frequent changes
were requested. To
accommodate the
critical deadline, ISIS
worked with the client
to include as many
requested changes
as possible, without
impacting on the
program. Entry to
The Attic was via a
long dramatically-lit
stairway, but another
stairwell leading
off the entrance
spoiled its impact.
ISIS blocked off
this stairway, and
inserted a doorway for
compliance with fire
regulations. The result
was a more visually
pleasing entrance.
BUSINESS
CONTINUITY
It was important
that works did not
impact on backpacker
patrons at Gilligan’s
resort. ISIS held
regular subcontractor
meetings and “toolbox
talks” and there was
strict enforcement of
site rules, particularly
with regard to patron
interaction. Rubbish
removal and deliveries
were coordinated with
resort staff via the
loading dock.
