President’s Welcome
elcome to the 2012-13 basketball season at Chaffey College. On behalf of the
Governing Board, faculty and staff, we thank you for your continued support of
our athletics programs and invite you to join us in another exciting season.
In the eleven years Jeff Klein has coached the Chaffey Hustlin’ Panthers, the team has had
four Foothill Conference titles and ten playoff appearances. Under Coach Klein’s guidance,
the men’s basketball team has the most winning program within the Foothill Conference,
averaging 22 wins per season.
Coach Plunkett begins his eighth season at Chaffey as head women’s basketball coach.
Already, the ladies have been dominating tournaments in preparation for the heated Foothill
Conference race including a strong showing at our own Panther Pride Tournament.
The strong history of academic and athletic success of our basketball program is continuing
with the talented individuals that will take to the court tonight. Many will graduate this
year, continuing their academics at four-year universities throughout the country. These
student-athletes will take with them the high standards the Chaffey College coaching staff
has instilled in them, making their families and our college proud.
This year, we are celebrating the 130th anniversary of Chaffey College. Celebrations will be
hosted throughout 2013. Please join us as we celebrate the past and current contributions
our students have made to the community.

Athletic Director’s Welcome

elcome to the 2012-13 season of Panther Basketball. This is Head Coach Jeff Klein’s
12th season leading the Chaffey Hustlin’ Panthers. In his eleven years here, his
teams have advanced to postseason play, an impressive, 10 times. This year’s
team features a mix of new faces and several returners. Coach Klein is joined by his longtime assistant Jon Keller, Panther Alum Prentice Harris and newcomer to Chaffey, Mark
Borgeson.
Coach Plunkett begins his 8th season with the Panthers. In November, the college hosted
the 2nd Annual Panther Pride Tournament with the ladies finishing 2nd behind Foothill
Conference foe, Mt San Jacinto. As always the race to the conference championship will
be an exciting one. This year, the coaching bench is proud to welcome back two alumnae
athletes; Lillie Parks and Aundria Anderson, as well as veteran coach Joe Murillo. This
year’s coaching staff offers a combination of youth and experience that is sure to benefit our
student-athletes and the program.
This spring, please also join me in cheering our Panther baseball, softball, track & field and
swimming teams on to victory. On behalf of the coaches and staff of the Chaffey College
Athletics Department, I thank you for your continued support.

“CHP” CHAFFEY HUSTLIN’ PANTHERS
Klein believes eleventh playoff appearance is possible with this tight knit squad.
THE PAST
Chaffey, (249 – 98) over the past eleven seasons.
One of our captains, Kenny Morgan returns to man the wing
position. Kenny is a gamer. The bigger the game, the better he
plays. Kenny is a three-year guy at Chaffey and will attain his AA
degree. Kenny was a 1st team all Foothill Conference selection in
2012. He is a big time three-point shooter who has gotten bigger
and stronger over his tenure at Chaffey and is a Summit High
School graduate.
Last season, the young Panthers gained valuable college level
playing experience. The “CHP” were led by freshmen and
captured the very competitive Fullerton Tournament the opening
week of the season. The “CHP” beat perennial powerhouse
Saddleback to take the title. From that point on, the team had an
up and down year. Inexperience showed in the always competitive
Foothill Conference. The Panthers finished (18-12) and (8-6) in
the Foothill Conference. The “CHP” entered the playoffs as the
#8seed in the South and took on a very experienced international
team, Cuesta College. The game was played at the Chaffey Sports
Center and the Panthers played a very exciting game. The “CHP”
led by 19 points in the second half before momentum swung and
the talented Euros stepped it up. The “CHP” played primarily
with a talented group of local freshmen and that experience
should pay dividends as they return in 2012/13.
Justin is one class away from getting his AA degree at Chaffey
College. He is one of our best overall athletes. We are counting
on his maturity and big game experience to put us over the top.
Roderick grey- shirted last season and improved all areas of his
game. He is a very versatile basketball player who can shoot the
three and rebound with the big guys. He is an excellent student
and attended Upland High School.
Todd also grey-shirted last season. He brings toughness,
rebounding and slashing ability to this year’s squad.

| Men’s Head Coach
Jeff Klein is entering his 12th season as the head coach of the Chaffey College Men’s
Basketball program. The 2012-13 will be his 28th season overall. He was named the first
Professional Expert to coach Men’s Basketball at a California Community College in
2001. This title enables Klein to be a full time coach.
Over the last 11 years with Klein as the coach, the CHP – Chaffey Hustlin’ Panthers
have averaged 22 wins a season (249-98). During that span, Chaffey has been the most
winning program in the Foothill Conference with seven 20+ win seasons over the last
11 years. The CHP have been to the CCCAA playoffs ten of these seasons.

with huge wins over LA Southwest, Ventura, SD City, Saddleback and San Bernardino
Valley twice. The young Panthers battled and scraped but tired late in the season. They
finished (18-12) and (8-6) in the always tough Foothill Conference. The “CHP” qualified
for the playoffs as the 8th seed. A very rare occurrence considering the Panthers were the 4th place team from the Foothill Conference. The
“CHP” took on Cuesta at home. Cuesta had a roster filled with international players. The Panthers built a 19 point lead in the second half,
but couldn’t hold on. The season ended with high expectations for 2012/13. Freshman Kenny Morgan was voted first team all Foothill
Conference and freshman Ryan Nitz and Sango Niang made Honorable Mention All Foothill Conference. Returners Justin Long and Justin
Cole all gained valuable playing experience.
Coach Klein, at age 23, became the youngest head coach in Southern California when he took the job at South Pasadena High School. Before
coming to Chaffey, Klein concluded a dramatic season at Upland High School where he coached the Highlanders to a CIF Division 1-AAA
title in 2001. Under his direction, the Highlanders ranked in the Top 10 nationally and won 28 games in a row.
During his nine seasons at Upland, Klein led the team to three league titles and made the CIF
playoffs every year starting in 1995. Klein has earned top honors in coaching being named “Coach
of the Year” by the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (SCIBCA),
Fox Sports West 2 television, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, and the Los Angeles Times. He was
also honored as the “Teacher of the Year” in 1996 from Upland High School.
Coach Klein has been fortunate to coach many fine student athletes. Many have gone on to attend 4
year universities and a few have reached the NBA. Stacey Augmon (UNLV/Atlanta Hawks), Desmond
Penigar (Utah State/Orlando Magic), and Kirk Snyder (Nevada/Utah Jazz) are those who made it
to the big time.
Coach Klein graduated from Lawrence High School on Long Island, New York, where he was an AllCounty athlete in football, basketball, and track. A graduate of SUNY at Cortland, Jeff earned his BS
degree in Physical Education in 1985. In 1989, Jeff completed his MBA from the University of La Verne.
Over the years, Coach Klein has hosted a very successful 50-50 basketball camp in which he has
influenced many young athletes in the fundamentals of basketball. In his free time Klein enjoys
spending time with his two children Danny (20) and Amanda (18), and traveling.

Season Outlook
The 2012-13 Panther’s begin this season with a lofty set of goals….
To exceed last season’s accomplishments. The 2011-12 Panther’s
finish the season 24-7, 2nd place in the Foothill Conference, ranked
6th in the final state poll, and advanced to the 3rd round of the
playoffs. This year’s squad, which includes five key returners, is
looking to go above and beyond last year, but it won’t be easy.
Once again, the Panthers will play a tedious non-conference
schedule which includes five highly competitive tournaments.
New to the schedule this season is the Foothill Pepsi Invitational
in late December, hosted by 2012 state runner-up Foothill College.
Conference play will begin in January, and the Foothill looks a
strong as ever, featuring Top-10 opponents San Bernardino Valley
and Mt. San Jacinto.
Gary Plunkett
| Women’s Head Coach
Coach Plunkett begins his eighth season as head coach of the women’s basketball
team at Chaffey College. Over the past six years, the Panthers have averaged 21
wins a season and have made five playoff appearances, most recently advancing to
the third round in 2012. The Panthers have also posted an impressive 56-20 record
in non-conference tournaments over the past six years, bring home 24 trophies,
including seven Championships. A perennial Southern California Power, the
Panthers have established State-wide acclaim, ranking in the State’s Top 10 for the
entire 2011-12 Season. Plunkett also reached a coaching milestone in 2011, earning
his 100th career win on January 15.
Plunkett takes great pride in winning with local talent and helping his players earn
athletic scholarships at the next level. Eighteen Panthers in the past seven years
have moved on to play basketball on scholarship at the NCAA or NAIA level. 2011
All-Conference guard Tianna Jones signed with NAIA Division I 2011National
Champions Azusa Pacific University. Most recently, 2012 sophomore Sheyenne
Williams has signed with NCAA Division II power University of Mary (ND).
The Panthers strength this year will again be athleticism and
versatility. Our combination of size, quickness, and scoring ability
will allow us to play big or small, slow or fast, depending on the
match up. We also have a balance of inside& outside scoring, along
with offensive rebounding, that will make us difficult to defend.
The newcomers to this squad have fit right in and are playing key
roles. And although the roster of 9 players may be smaller than
most teams, the team morale is high because everyone must be
a contributor.
We hope you enjoy cheering on the Panther’s this season, and we
appreciate your support.
Go Panthers!
In addition to his duties as head women’s basketball coach at Chaffey College, Plunkett is responsible for game management at
football, volleyball, soccer, baseball, and softball home contests. Plunkett serves as the women’s basketball sport representative for
the Foothill Athletic Conference. He is also active in the California Community College Women’s Basketball Coaches Association,
serving on both the Playoff Selection Committee and the All-State Committee as the Foothill Conference representative.
Prior to Chaffey College, Plunkett spent 11 years as an assistant coach, ten of those at the NCAA University level. Most recently he was
the top assistant for the 2004-05 Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s basketball team. Plunkett was in charge of team offense, strength
and conditioning, and assisted in recruiting. He helped lead the Toros to their 1st NCAA playoffs in eight years.
He began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant for the California State University
Dominguez Hills men’s basketball team in 1995. After assistant coaching for five years at CSUDH
for both men’s and women’s basketball programs, Plunkett went to California State University Los
Angeles in 2000. There he coached the men’s program for two years and served as the academic
coordinator, helping the Golden Eagles with academic advisement and monitoring the teams
tutoring and study hall activities. Plunkett spent another two years at CSULA as the women’s top
assistant and recruiting coordinator.
Plunkett received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with a minor in Physical Education from
California State Dominquez Hills in 1998 and a Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise
Science from California State Long Beach in 2003. Plunkett has five years of teaching experience
at the university level. While at Cal State L.A. he served as an instructor of Kinesiology activity
classes for four years, teaching both beginning and intermediate level courses in basketball,
jogging, weight training and physical conditioning. While at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Plunkett
served as a part-time lecturer for the Kinesiology department teaching motor learning, lifetime
fitness, and a senior seminar in kinesiology.
Coach Plunkett enjoys playing basketball, working out, traveling, reading, and attending church.
He and his wife, Shaela, are the proud parents of three year old twins, Jordan and Naomi. The
Plunketts reside in Rancho Cucamonga.

Assistant Coach Joe Murillo enters his third
year on the Panther Coaching staff but has
been coaching basketball for nearly 40 years.
As a student-athlete, he played basketball at
Chino High School, Mt SAC and Cal Poly
Pomona.
Lillie graduated from Eisenhower high
in 2004 where she played basketball,
volleyball and track & field. Parks
earned two letters in basketball, four in
track & field and three in volleyball and
also earned EHS scholar-athlete award
all four years. In the fall of 2005 she
enrolled at Chaffey College and played
on the women’s Basketball team, where
she earned two team MVP and two firstteam All-Foothill Conference honors at
Chaffey College. Parks helped Panthers
go 23-10 and qualify for state playoffs
as a sophomore in 2006-07 and led the
Panthers in scoring and rebounding
both seasons. In 2007 Parks received a
Basketball scholarship to attend University
of Alaska Anchorage. During her career at
Anchorage Lillie was the Fourth-leading
rebounder (3.5 rpg) and 7th-leading

posted program-best 30-5 record and
advanced to NCAA Semifinals for first
time, was 2nd on squad in steals (1.3 spg)
and 3rd in FG% (.496) despite playing just
11.4 minutes per game, she ranked 2nd on
team in rebounds per minute (.305). Soon
after, she received a Bachelor of Science in
Business Administration from University
of La Verne in 2010. Coach Parks enjoys
coaching/playing basketball, shopping,
computers and spending time with family.
Coach Anderson begins her first year on
the coaching bench for the Panthers. An
alum of Chaffey College, Anderson played
for the Panthers under Head Coach Gary
Plunkett where she earned 1st-Team AllFoothill Conference honors. A standout
on the Panthers squad, she was named
MVP both years she played. Anderson
was awarded an athletic scholarship to
CSU Dominguez Hills where she earned
her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice
in 2011.
Coach Murillo began his coaching career
at Nogales High School in La Puente before
returning to his alma mater, Chino High,
in 1974 as the assistant varsity boys coach.
Four years later, Murillo took over the girls
basketball program, a position he held with
honor for 29 years. At Chino, Coach Murillo
earned a 559-250 record. His teams reached
CIF playoffs 26 times in his 29 year tenure,
winning 16 league titles and 3 CIF Southern
Section titles. In 1986, he took Chino to the
state title game.
Over the years, Coach Murillo was selected
League Coach of the Year and in 1981, 86
and 88 he was named CIF Coach of the
Year. In 2008, Chino High honored Coach
Murillo by officially naming the gym floor
in his honor. Earlier this year, Murillo was
inducted into the Southern California
Interscholastic Coaches Association Hall of
Fame.
Coach Murillo is currently retired and lives
with his wife Diane. He is the proud father
of five children and five grandchildren.
Coach Murillo is in charge of team defense
and conditioning.
Coach Parks duties include recruiting and
skill development work with the forwards.

game – season high 20 points vs AVC (2/15/12); 15 rebounds
vs Orange Coast (12/9/11)
Bianca Brown #3
Coach’s Thoughts:
Ashlee, a returning 1st team all-conference
selection, proved last year that she is one of the
best athlete’s in the state. A versatile big guard, she
will be called upon to provide a little of everything
this year; rebounding, scoring, passing, defense
and making free throws. As a freshman she was
either 1st or 2nd on the team in those statistical
categories.
Guard
Freshman 5’8 | Rialto HS

Favorite Athlete: Kobe Bryant
Favorite Colors: Red & Black
Favorite Quote: Give it your all. Just do it.
High School Accomplishments:
CIF state regional
Coach’s Thoughts
“BB” brings two important qualities to the floor;
quickness and toughness. She will be relied
this year as a full-court on-ball defender, to tire
opponents point guards. On the offensive side of
the ball, she can knock down 3’s and has a nose for
offensive rebounds.

something. But, I can’t accept not trying.
High School Accomplishments:
3.5 GPA, 1st team All-League
Coach’s Thoughts:
Ja’Lisa has the skills of a guard and the body of a
power forward. She is an excellent shooter, passer,
rebound, and help defender, with an excellent
basketball IQ. She has a calming, patient influence
on our offensive that really helps the team flow
well.
Alyssa Domingo #5 Guard
Sophomore 5’1 | Summit HS

Favorite Quote: You must expect great
things of yourself before you can do them. Michael Jordan
Last Year: Averaged 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1.5
assists and 1 steal per game – scored season
high 17 points vs Cuesta (12/18/12)
Coach’s Thoughts
Alyssa is one of the most exciting players we have
to watch, and proves the old saying is true “it’s not
how big you are, but how big you play”. Alyssa
plays huge, making big 3’s, driving layups, and
unlikely steals. She always seems to come through
with a big play when we need it.

be alarmed or terrified, because the
Lord your God is with you wherever
you go. Joshua 1:9
High School Accomplishments:
2x CIF champions
Sheyenne Williams #12
Coach’s Thoughts
Candice is a small forward with some terrific skills:
a strong first step to the basket, great defensive
pressure, and the ability to rebound on both ends
of the floor. Her versatility and size allow us to play
both big and small lineups when she’s on the floor.
Guard
Sophomore 6’0 | Los Osos HS

Favorite Team: Miami Heat
Favorite Athlete: LeBron James
Favorite Food: cheeseburgers
Favorite Color: Pink
Favorite Chaffey Professor: Angela Bartlett

Favorite Quote: Sticks and stones may break my
bones but words will never hurt me.
High School Accomplishments: 2nd team AllLeague, scholar athlete
Last Year: played a key defensive role as a
back-up guard – averaged 3 points, 2 rebounds,
1 assist and 1 steal per game
Coach’s Thoughts:
Sheyenne is a rarity at the Community College level;
she is a 6’0 guard. Her length at that position creates
great offensive and defensive matchups for us. She
has improved tremendously from her freshman year
in her aggressiveness offensively, and her confidence
in her 3 ball.
Bree Ball #13
Center
Sophomore 6’2 | Roosevelt HS
Hometown: Riverside, CA
Favorite Team: San Francisco 49ers
Favorite Color: Aqua Blue
Last Year: Averaged 8 points, 8 rebounds per
game and had 25 blocks and 25 steals
20
Coach’s Thoughts:
Bree, a key performer on the 2011-12 squad, brings
the same presence to the floor this year. She
provides scoring around the basket, tenacious
offensive rebounding, and shot blocking. She is
legitimately one of the most imposing “Presence in
the Paint”, in the state. She has added a nice face
up game to her repertoire this year.
Brittany Richardson #24
Guard
Freshman 5’6 | Sultana HS

High School Accomplishments: 1st team AllLeague, 4x principal’s honor roll
Malika Fofana #32
Coach’s Thoghts
Brittany is a talented ball handler & passer, two
skills that make her an invaluable point guard. We
will rely heavily on her steadiness at point, as well
as her aggressive defensive pressure, this year.
Forward
Sophomore 5’10 | Hesperia HS

Last Year: CCCAA Female Student-Athlete

scored a season high 16 points vs AVC
Coach’s Thoughts:
Malika is a real catalyst for inspiration and
motivation on our team. She plays with an
incredible energy, and a “no quit” attitude which
is contagious. She has also established herself
as one of the premier low post scorers and
rebounders in southern California this year.
