Where Hope Begins
Where Hope Begins
2015 ANNUAL REPORT
From the Executive Director
This past year has seen extraordinary growth at Eva’s Village. With the help of our supporters and volunteers,
we extended the hours in our Primary Medical Clinic, bringing treatment to twice as many patients as the prior
year; opened our Mental Health Outpatient Program to address one of the root causes of homelessness;
opened a 3,500 sq. ft. Training Kitchen to double the capacity for students in our Culinary School; and built a
Marie Reger
Greenhouse to grow fresh produce year-round, improving the nutritional quality of meals served in our Community Kitchen. We are proud of all we have been able to accomplish, but we are even more proud of the men and women who have
been able to transform their lives through our programs.
I’d like to share with you the story of Brandi’s journey to a new beginning. Brandi became part of Eva’s family many years
before she found a path to transformation. She was homeless and struggling with addiction when she first came as a guest to
our Community Kitchen. Over the years, we built a friendship, and the staff and I assured her we would be here when she was
ready to seek help. Her transformation began when she entered our Substance Abuse Treatment Program.
When her daughter was born later that year, they moved into our Hope Residence for mothers with children.
After completing the program, Brandi continued her journey at our Recovery Community Center. “I have
experienced every aspect of Eva’s and I’m grateful Eva’s never gave up on me,” she explained. Now, she is
20 months clean, has a full time job and her own home, but she still comes back to visit and talk with staff
and clients. In her own words: “Eva’s didn’t just restore my sobriety; it gave me my life back.” Brandi has
gained her independence, but she will always be part of the Eva’s Village family.

Demetria’s Story: For those in despair, Eva’s Village is a place of hope. When
Demetria first came to Eva’s, she says “I had been using drugs for 18 years. I had lost
custody of my three kids, was hiding from my family and ended up living on the streets.”
When she turned 40, she decided to make a change, “to give my kids a better chance.”
She discovered a path to recovery through Eva’s treatment and support programs.
Healing began in small, peer-led group
sessions where she felt safe talking about
her past. Now, eight years clean, and
working at Eva’s as a Recovery Specialist
for five years, she says, “I love Eva’s not
because I work here, but because I’m
giving back.” She has rebuilt family ties,
and is close to completing a Bachelor’s
degree. “I have the respect of my children,
good relationships with my siblings, and
I’m now a grandmother. My kids have seen
it all, but my grandchild won’t see the bad
parts. He will see a strong woman.”
