Whether it’s the behind the knees bring down of “Crash Hard”, the maybe I will, maybe I won’t autobiographical title track, or the final curtain call of “Such A Shame”, this is a collection of songs that speak of a bright eyed beginning and a final truth all at the same time. At a sold-out Hugh's Room on Dundas St., a few blocks from where Rik Emmett grew up, the proprietor Holmes Hooks introduced The Strung-Out Troubadours to the audience in his storied folk club, and Rik & Dave Dunlop offered up an eclectic acoustic guitar / vocal duo intensity that only they can generate. You’re A Wolf 2. The Garden That You Planted 3. I Made A Resolution 4. Ses Monuments 5. I Don’t Know If I’ll Be Back This Time Sea Wolf is the vehicle for Alex Church’s songs – who is not only Sea Wolf’s songwriter and singer but also the band’s only invariable member. Born in the small god rush town of Columbia, California, Church’s musical memories were shaped by ad hoc bluegrass outfits playing for tourists on sidewalks of his hometown coupled with the Beatles and Willie Nelson records on his Mom’s turntable. Church wandered from California twice – once as a boy, when he and his mother spent a year living in a tent in the French countryside, and once for college at NYU’s film school. He wrote his first song the week he graduated from college and returned to California, where he later became the founding bass player of Los Angeles outfit Irving. “Even though I’ve always returned here, I don’t feel like the music has much of a connection to one particular place,” Church explains. “In a way, it’s not rooted in any place.” That sound Church sought and achieved is a combination of delicate, arching melodies and foggy, elegiac narratives. Over the spare instrumentation, his voice can be weary or buoyant, but it’s always capable of leaving an indelible impression. Let's Save The World (Live) 8 Salvamm’o Munno One of Italy's greatest artists Enzo Avitabile is a musical pioneer; cultivating his sax techniques in the GI bars of Naples, he has lived an extraordinary musical career. Having released a dozen highly acclaimed solo albums and recorded with artists such as Tina Turner, James Brown and Randy Crawford, he was ready for something completely different and in 2000 it was to Campania that Avitabile returned to his roots, researching the extraordinary music and culture of the Bottari, the olive barrel beaters of Southern Italy. A medieval ritual to exorcise evil spirits from their farmlands, Bottari has been kept alive in the village of Portico. Over the years the ritual has turned into a distinct musical culture, with entire villages turning out to chase spirits away from their fields lead by a beat master or capopattuglia. Harnessing the heartbeat of this tradition Avitabile set on a course to combine his heritage with jazz and Mediterranean blues. Spiced with his soulful voice and global inflections, he created a pulsating, energetic journey while preserving the thunderous hypnotic Bottari to perfection. An incredible project was born and when word got out artists including Khaled, Hugh Massakela and Manu Dibango all asked to contribute to his album. 'Save the World' was released originally in 2004 to outstanding reviews crediting it as the most original World Music Album of the Year. Get the Guests is surely to be one of the most original albums released in 2007 and some of its wonder lies in the fact that it doesn’t sound like a band trying to do anything…it just sounds like a band who is. In all aspects Get the Guests is a far cry from the band’s previous two releases but it also makes you listen to those albums and think, ah…now I see where they were headed this whole time. Charter sketches have adorned the band’s cannon before, but never as much as they do now. “Rimbaud/Rambo” introduces a narrator trying to decide which titular man is a better romantic model. “The Curator” exposes a malicious museum curator covering the museum walls with his own work. “Arrow” is what happens if Cupid shoots himself. The harmonies are striking, the bass and drums are creative as hell without ridding the songs of their brilliant hooks, and Josh Malerman’s voice is as unique and convincing as it’s ever been. The songs are fun…they are bright…and the band finally makes a celebration of combining a subtle sense of humour with powerful lyrics the listener will take with him along after the room is silent again. “The Detroit-born quartet High Strung have a gift for nervy, agitated melodies that get under your skin as much as they make you hum along” – Rolling Stone Magazine KEY SELLING POINTS: “(the High Strung) makes nerdy unhappiness sound like something close to bliss” – Ken Tucker, NPR, host of Fresh Air “the songwriting is tight, and the hooks are endless” – Harp Magazine x x x Catalogue Number 7 Major US push in hometown of Detroit that will clearly cross-over into Canada Touring throughout the US all Spring and Summer, main support on the Sun Volt tour May 1 – May 18 Posters and stickers available Price Code Label RIYL PTV15 SP Park The Van/Fontana North Of Montreal, The Flaming Lips, Pavement, the Zombies Bar Code Format File Order Due CD Rock May 3, 2007 Box Lot G.C. The second track resembles the Happy Mondays meets the Doors and Echo and the Bummymen, while the third track is a 21st century blast of Who-esque rock. And the rest of the album follows suit. The band recently played the CMJ Music Festival in New York before a packed house at the Arlene’s Grocery Rainbow Quartz Showcase. They blew the roof off with an inspired set that reminded we at the label of a cross between Nirvana, XTC, Devo and Televisoin – we are not kidding! The new album has elements of all these bands including hints of T. Rex as well as Urge Overkill. Their new album is an eclectic rocket ride from start to finish. Unleashing the bombast and banging the glam gong like never before, perfect pop songs with soaring melodies and high harmonies come armed with claws of buzzsaw guitars and snarling synths. Blood and Passion SUSPYRE's music has a wide range of influences and members with distinct personalities that make up the band's sound. All have a common interest in metal, while jazz and classical are also at the top of their lists. SUSPYRE's current goal is to push the musical boundaries even further by creating a fusion of the best music to date and then attempting to add new life to it. It all started in the summer of 2001 with a jam session at former drummer Chris Myers' house with guitarists Gregg Rossetti and Rich Skibinsky. In 2002 some recordings of the songs "I See", "Perfect, and "Father of Hater" were done, but never actually completed. SUSPYRE'S first show was May 31st, 2003 when bassist Kirk Schwenkler joined the band. Direction of music shifted and member replacements happened to suit the new direction of this new born band. October 24th, 2005 marks the band’s debut release "THE SILVERY IMAGE" independently, due to the overwhelmingly great response SUSPYRE garnered with press and progressive metal fans, Nightmare records quickly offered the band a deal long before their follow up album A GREAT DIVIDE was complete. Now here for all to enjoy is SUSPYRE's new offering, A GREAT DIVIDE, this album is more diverse in every sense of the word: Long pieces vs. short pieces, straight forward rhythms vs. superimposing odd meters, microtonal clusters and just intonation vs. 12TET.
