PROJECT – PRÉSENTATION DE L’ÉVÉNÉNEMENT
The Alliance Française, the French General Consulate, French elected
representatives and other partners have decided to join their forces once more to celebrate
Bastille Day. This year, following the UN COP21 conference, the event will be placed under
the auspices of environment.

française, et d’autres partenaires ont décidé d’unir leurs talents une nouvelle fois pour
commémorer le jour de la prise de la Bastille. Cette année après la conférence des
Nations Unies sur l’environnement (COP21), le 14 juillet sera placé sous le thème de
l’environnement.

It will allow all British Columbians the opportunity to experience French culture and
traditions, bring a French “art de vivre” into the core of Vancouver, and celebrate the
French National Day as if you were in Paris. Access will be free of charge.
French being the second official language in Canada, Bastille Day Festival is proud to be
a still young project that embraces strong values such as freedom of speech, respect for
beliefs and religions, respect of the environment. French businesses and volunteers from all
nationalities will work together to make this day unforgettable!
Last year’s kick-off event was already a tremendous success with thousands of people

DRAFT PROGRAMME – PROGRAMME PRÉVISIONNEL
On a sunny day of mid-July, Vancouverites and tourists will enjoy the melody of a French
accordionist, while tasting French wines, cheese and pastries. We will have live bands and
gipsy jazz. Kids will wear a typical beret and have fun with blue, white and red face painting.

OUR DEMOGRAPHY – NOTRE DÉMOGRAPHIE
There are 6,000 French registered citizens in British Columbia but the actual number
is between 20,000 and 25,000 as registration is not compulsory. This number increases from
about 10% every year since 2007. There are about 60,000 residents with French as their
mother tongue and 300,000 francophones in British Columbia. But we aim to reach out the
entire population. France is tourist number one destination of British Columbians outside
North America and 30% of the visa issued are for Chinese, as there is now a direct Air France
flight between Vancouver and Paris.

ABOUT US – A PROPOS DU BASTILLE DAY FESTIVAL SOCIETY
Bastille Day society is a not-for-profit society incorporated in February 2015
under the number: S-0063812. Apart from the board, around 70 enthusiastic
and committed volunteers are involved in different committees
(communication & marketing, finance, organization...)
and will be present during the event.
