Why An Alternative Gift Market?
What are you hoping for this Christmas?
We all have our wish lists of the things we want, the trips we plan to
take, the experiences we want to participate in. And on top of that,
we nag our family to come up with interesting, fun, and useful items.
We spend hours shopping for and wrapping up the “perfect” present
for each person on our list.
How many of these gifts end up tucked in that hall closet, re-gifted,
or forgotten? Or we learn that the person has already bought it for
themself ? Maybe we eventually come to the realization that the excess
just isn’t needed.
There are many in this world and even in our own communities
that are hoping for something special this Christmas. Clean water,
mosquito nets, school supplies, a warm meal, a chicken to supply
eggs, or even a sleeping bag. How would you feel knowing that your
gift actually provided a person – someone you didn’t even know – the
most meaningful present they desire? Would you like to give a unique
gift to that person who has everything while providing a gift of
significance to someone who needs many things?
That’s why we offer this gift catalogue. It’s about giving beyond
ourselves and in greater ways. It allows us to share the hope and love
of Jesus around the world and across the city. It is the gift that won’t
be passed along or shoved to the back of the closet. It will be used
and shared and it will maybe change a life.
And isn’t that enough reason to take this opportunity to give?

The AGM Shopping Experience
The Bellevue Presbyterian Church Alternative Gift Market
is a special way to raise funds and attention for many of the
ministries supported through the BelPres Mission budget.
These gifts allow ministries to help in ways outside of their
operating and support budgets. The catalogue embraces
the vision of BelPres to impact the communities we reach
through these ministries.
Once the market is over, the funds are sent to the ministries
to be used towards the specified gift. One hundred percent
of funds from the market go to the items purchased. We
have budgeted for much of the overhead costs and invite
shoppers to purchase a gift to help offset additional fees
incurred. It is a joyful experience to send funds from our
generous shoppers and spread Christmas joy in powerful
ways!
Several items are sold as shares. What this means is that
the AGM purchase price is a part of the total cost of the
item. So, although a shopper can’t afford to buy a house in
Guatemala, s/he can purchase a share towards that total
cost. All full costs are listed in the item description when
the price reflects a share of the total cost.
