The Joy of Generosity Alternative Gift Market Catalogue 2015 Children of the Nations Goat Page 25 BELPRES CHURCH The Nicolás Fund for Education Laptops Page 31 2 Why An Alternative Gift Market? What are you hoping for this Christmas? We all have our wish lists of the things we want, the trips we plan to take, the experiences we want to participate in. And on top of that, we nag our family to come up with interesting, fun, and useful items. We spend hours shopping for and wrapping up the “perfect” present for each person on our list. How many of these gifts end up tucked in that hall closet, re-gifted, or forgotten? Or we learn that the person has already bought it for themself ? Maybe we eventually come to the realization that the excess just isn’t needed. There are many in this world and even in our own communities that are hoping for something special this Christmas. Clean water, mosquito nets, school supplies, a warm meal, a chicken to supply eggs, or even a sleeping bag. How would you feel knowing that your gift actually provided a person – someone you didn’t even know – the most meaningful present they desire? Would you like to give a unique gift to that person who has everything while providing a gift of significance to someone who needs many things? That’s why we offer this gift catalogue. It’s about giving beyond ourselves and in greater ways. It allows us to share the hope and love of Jesus around the world and across the city. It is the gift that won’t be passed along or shoved to the back of the closet. It will be used and shared and it will maybe change a life. And isn’t that enough reason to take this opportunity to give? 3 Gifts In This Catalogue MINISTRY: Adams, Mike and Brigit AIC Child Care Center Alongside Ministries Arms of Jesus Children’s Mission Auto Angels Baby Basics BelPres Bridge Ministries Center For Champions Children of the Nations Children’s Hospice Congregations for the Homeless Crossworld Develop Our Village Economy Eastside Academy Greatest Goal Ministries Habitat for Humanity Hosanna Community Page 21 21 22 23 7 8 34 8 24 25-26 26 9 27 28 10 29 11 29 MINISTRY: Page Israel/Palestine Peacemaking Team 30 Jubilee REACH 12 KidREACH 13 King County Youth Chaplaincy 13 Matt Talbot 14 Middle East Partners 31 New Horizons 15 Niños Con Valor 32 Renewal Food Bank 16 Real Escape from the Sex Trade (REST) 17 Rwanda Network 33 St. John Cultural Center 33 The Nicolás Fund for Education 31 Urban Impact 17 Vision House 18 World Concern 34 Young Life Bellevue 19 Youth for Christ 20 Around The World COUNTRY: Bolivia Cambodia Dominican Republic Guatemala Haiti Kenya Middle East 4 Page 32 28 25-26 23, 31 27 21 30, 31 COUNTRY: Nicaragua Russia Rwanda Sierra Leone South Sudan USA Global Page 22 26, 29, 33 24, 33 29 34 7-20, 34 21 Gift Selections by Category ANIMALS: Page EDUCATION CONTINUED: Page Cow, Rwanda Donkey, Haiti Goat, Dominican Republic 24 27 25 School Uniforms, Rwanda Sponsor a Teen Parent, Bellevue Tuition, Bellevue Vocational Starter Kit, Rwanda 33 20 10 24 AGRICULTURE: Page Fruit Tree, Israel/Palestine 30 HEALTH/MEDICAL: Page Hygiene Kits for Men, Bellevue 14 AUTOMOTIVE: Page Hygiene Kit: Youth, King County15 Brake Pads, Bellevue 7 Hygiene Kits: Young Women, King County 17 Inspection and Oil/Filter, Bellevue 7 Basic Medical, Sierra Leone 29 Latrine Supplies, Cambodia 28 BABY/CHILDREN: Page Rehabilitation Boots, Kenya 21 Diapers, Bellevue 8, 16 Safe Drinking Water, Haiti 27 Paint for Child’s Room, Bellevue 11 Sensory Aquatic Bubble Tube, Russia 26 Club Jubilee Scholarship, Bellevue 12 The 44-cent Cure, South Sudan 34 Summer Camp Scholarship, Bellevue 13 Wheelchair Batteries, Bellevue 8 Baby Wipes, Bellevue 16 HOME/SHELTER: Page Gift Cards, Bellevue 19 Cleaning/House Supplies, King County 18 Shoes, Bolivia 32 Economic Stoves, Guatemala 23 BIBLES: Page House, Guatemala 23 Bibles for Youth, King County 13 Kitchen Sink, King County 11 Bible in Farsi, Iran 31 Land for Future Site, Bolivia 32 Case of Bibles, King County 20 RE:New Homes, Bellevue 10 Spanish Bible, Dominican Republic 26 RELIEF: Page Youth Bibles, Bellevue 19 Basket for Women, Bellevue 14 BUNDLES: Page Christmas Party, Russia 29 All Bundles 35-36 Gift Cards, King County 9 Rent Assistance, Bellevue 12 EDUCATION: Page Sleeping Bags, King County 9 Art Supplies, Bellevue 18 Wind-up Radio, Various 21 Backpack/Supplies, Nicaragua 22 SPORT: Page Books for Freedom School, King County 17 Biking Program, Russia 33 Computer, Israel/Palestine 30 Case of Baseballs, Dominican Republic 25 Laptops, Guatemala 31 Leadership Club, Cambodia 28 5 The AGM Shopping Experience The Bellevue Presbyterian Church Alternative Gift Market is a special way to raise funds and attention for many of the ministries supported through the BelPres Mission budget. These gifts allow ministries to help in ways outside of their operating and support budgets. The catalogue embraces the vision of BelPres to impact the communities we reach through these ministries. Once the market is over, the funds are sent to the ministries to be used towards the specified gift. One hundred percent of funds from the market go to the items purchased. We have budgeted for much of the overhead costs and invite shoppers to purchase a gift to help offset additional fees incurred. It is a joyful experience to send funds from our generous shoppers and spread Christmas joy in powerful ways! Several items are sold as shares. What this means is that the AGM purchase price is a part of the total cost of the item. So, although a shopper can’t afford to buy a house in Guatemala, s/he can purchase a share towards that total cost. All full costs are listed in the item description when the price reflects a share of the total cost. 6 COMMUNITY Auto Angels The BelPres Auto Angels ministry is committed to meeting the transportation needs of those within our church community who are unable to meet those needs themselves.
