Basement Finish
Outstanding feature:
Gorgeous coffered ceiling
The homeowners not only wanted to
finish their walkout basement to turn it
into an open space where their family
could enjoy many activities – they also
wanted it to have a wow factor. Griffey
Remodeling met both goals with a
remodeled lower level that combines
beauty with multipurpose livability.
The new basement has many custom
features and special detailing, including
decorative tile flooring with glass inlay,
a dramatic coffered ceiling, wainscot
paneling, brick and decorative columns,
and exposed classic-red brick walls that
match the home’s exterior brick. Griffey
Remodeling created frames for the

kitchen and make it a functional haven
with lots of storage for her many specialized cooking utensils.
Kresge Contracting moved the
kitchen to another part of the house,
and created an open, more convenient
layout. They added Craftsman-accent
cabinets, butcher block and quartz
countertops, slate flooring, professional
grade appliances, a custom-built banquette and a unique slate floor. Kresge
installed custom storage,

Vintage home addition that blends
beautifully
Owens Construction melded a beautifully restored 1876 Victorian Italianate
farmhouse with an addition that looks
like part of the home and incorporates
green building practices and universal
design.
The post and beam addition has a
vaulted, wooden ceiling enveloping a
new open kitchen and family room. A
fully finished lower level has a one-ofa-kind ceiling made out of timber from
the property. A bright sunroom features
three walls of windows and shares a
two-sided fireplace with the family
room. Granite and Silestone countertops, custom cabinets and LED and low
voltage lighting bring the space to life.
Inlaid hardwood floors, stone accents
and refurbished flea market treasures
give the space a rustic yet refined look.

Dramatic water feature
The homeowners wanted a lush,
water-filled backyard where they could
entertain. Planted Earth Columbus
created a unique outdoor space that
features multiple water features and
garden areas.
Water flows through a two and a half
ton granite boulder to join a stream
that is bridged to lead to three more
boulders on the other side. The sooth-
ing water sounds mask traffic noise
from a busy nearby street. LED lighting
throughout the backyard extends the
time people can be outdoors. Planted
Earth Columbus also created an outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill and
granite countertops, a multi-level stone
patio with black granite inlays and a
fire pit.
