Winnebago Auto Modelers March Meeting
The Winnebago Auto Modelers held their March meeting on Tuesday, March 13th at Hobbytown USA
in Oshkosh. Members present were Matt, D9 Dave, Dave, Greg and Rob. We started off the meeting
by giving our club display case a good cleaning, and changing up the display. Following some
shopping at
Hobbytown, we
held our usual
roundtable
discussion. On
display in March
was the stellar
build of a snap
together Monte
Carlo, that Rob
fashioned after one
he once owned,
only in a little
better shape! Rob
also had a Jimmy
Flintstone resin
sedan delivery
project in its very
early stages. Matt
brought a rod
project he has in
the works, using a
Jimmy Flintstone
resin chopped 5
window coupe
body. While we are
on the subject of
Jimmy Flintstone,
Greg displayed his
build of the Testors
release of Jimmy’s
Extremeliner resin
kit. Greg also had a
Revell funny car
and Dave Deal’s
ZZZZ28 kit on the
table. Dave
displayed some
Slixx drag racing
decals, and several
automotive
magazines.

WAM Birthday Build at D 9 ’s
On Saturday, March 24th, D9 Dave invited the WAM club over for a Saturday model build
and general nonsense session. As hard as it is to believe, this build was completely
wingless and lacking of tiny orange shorts. It was however an enjoyable day spent making
a mess of Dave’s floor with styrene shavings and belated birthday cake crumbs. As hard
as it is to believe that there were no wings consumed, it is even harder to believe that the
other Dave not only peeled the cellophane off a model kit, but he actually took parts out
of the box and
altered them from
their pristine
factory condition.
He even looked
like he might
have enjoyed the
experience, as
painful as it was
for him. The build
session was
sponsored by new
Pepsi NEXT, and
featured club
members pretty
much all breaking
out new builds for
the event. Matt
was seen working
on no less than 3
different hot rod
projects, Greg
started work on a
’32 3 window
coupe by grafting
on the louvered
decklid from the
new 5 window
coupe, and
channeling the
body over the kit
frame. Rob
started in on a
Chevelle street
machine, while
Dave was working
over a new
Challenger. D9
was
scratchbuilding
some “pioneer”
tool racks for
some military
truck builds he
has going, and
also gave a
demonstration on “thermoforming” styrene fenders. Stay tuned for more WAM build
sessions like this in the future. As Dave found out, it’s not that hard to get started building
a kit at an event like this, the hard part is finding a day where everyone can make it. We’ll
try it again, soon!
