Marble House - The Preservation Society of Newport County
Marble House 596 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, Rhode Island Whether to thank your clients and customers, reward your employees, or build your staff's teamwork, there is simply no better venue than the Newport Mansions. If you're hosting a conference, social event or Board of Director’s meeting in Newport, make it a memorable occasion for your guests by choosing one of our spectacular settings. Gold Ballroom Photo by Patrick O'Connor Constructed as a summer cottage for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt, Marble House epitomizes the grandeur of the Gilded Age. With 500,000 cubic feet of marble and a ballroom covered in 22-karat gold leaf, it was the most lavish house in America when it opened in 1892. The view from the canopied terrace overlooks a colorful Chinese Tea House at the foot of the lawn, with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Rear Facade and Terrace Marble House became a grand stage for Alva Vanderbilt's climb to social and political power, first as a leading society hostess, and later as a leader of the "Votes for Women" campaign. The house was the scene of both elaborate balls attended by the cream of high society, and of political rallies to raise funds for the women's suffrage movement. Photo by Jacque Wuest You and your guests can enjoy the same elegant setting and service that has been enjoyed by visiting heads-of-state, entertainers, and celebrities from all walks of life for over 100 years.
