VISION STATEMENT
WE, the parish of Our Lady of Victory, proclaim with joy the presence of Jesus in the world through Word,
Sacrament, and deed. It is through our discipleship that we recognize our connection to God, our neighbor,
and our deepest spiritual selves.
WE, seek to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ by:
+ Welcoming all with kindness, compassion and hospitality. + Nourishing the faith life of the community
through prayer, fellowship and education. + Reverencing the dignity of each person by celebrating the
beauty of life from conception to natural death. + Nurturing the gifts of all so that each person may live out
his or her unique and personal call from God. + Caring for the needs of the less fortunate by empowering
our parish community to answer that call. WE, do this in the name of Jesus Christ and the mandate:
“See those Christians how they love one another!”

Dear Parishioners,
I would like to thank all those who came out
to pray the Rosary on the Feast of Our Lady of
Victory last Wednesday. If you are not familiar
with the story of the origins of the title of Our Lady of Victory, please go to the parish website:
www.olvfpny.org and click on “About Us” - “The
Story of Our Lady of Victory.” That will explain
the connection between the title “Our Lady of
Victory” and the Rosary.
7th Grade Confirmation Commitment Masses
Next weekend the 7th grade students from the
Faith Formation Program and Our Lady of Victory School will be making their commitment to
participate in the two-year Confirmation preparation program. The Commitment ceremonies will
take place at the following Masses:
Saturday, Oct. 17th 5:15 pm
Sunday, Oct. 18th 10:30, 11:45 and 5:15 pm.
If a seventh grader is unable to attend the Mass
to which their class is assigned, they can attend
any other Commitment Mass. Please be sure to
bring your signed Commitment form from your
Confirmation workbook.
Confirmation Program
For the benefit of parishioners who do not
have children or grandchildren who are at Confirmation age, I would like to explain to you the
Confirmation program here at OLV. Students
who are in Catholic schools receive their religious
education in their schools, while students who go
to public schools receive their religious education
in their Faith Formation classes which are held in
the evening once a week.
In addition to their classes, all Confirmation
candidates, regardless of where they go to school,
also complete a Confirmation Workbook. This
workbook has as its goal instilling in our young
people the Greatest Commandment - Love of God
and love of neighbor. In Grade 7 we seek to meet
the goal by asking the young people to write reflections on four Masses which they must attend
at particular liturgical seasons of the year. They
learn more about their own Baptism from their
parents while also attending a baptism ceremony.
7th graders are also asked to attend a prayer service in church other than Mass, for example Stations of the Cross, the Rosary or Eucharistic Ado-
ration, and then write a reflection on it. They are
asked to research and write about a title of the
Blessed Mother. Finally, they are requested to get
involved in service activities as a way of expressing love of neighbor.
In Grade 8 the students are asked to do similar
activities—reflections on 3 Masses and the gifts
of the Holy Spirit, an interview with their Confirmation sponsor, an explanation of their choice of
a Confirmation name, attendance at a one-day Retreat in December, and a letter formally requesting the Sacrament of Confirmation. They are also
asked to perform a service project, using their
gifts and talents and putting them at the service of
others.
Through this Confirmation Preparation Program we hope to instill in our young people a
greater love for God and their neighbor by experiencing the joy that comes from worshiping God,
being part of a Church community, and serving
other people.
We count on the prayers of the whole parish
community to support these young people in their
journey to Confirmation.
Parish Outreach
Please read Maureen Russell’s column in today’s bulletin. As our Parish Outreach Director
Maureen keeps us informed about the activities

working together with St. Catherine of Sienna in
Franklin Square on Respite Nights. Contact the
Outreach Office at 352-5400 for further information.

I would like to thank the school for all your donations this

were happy to deliver them. Since we have many new guests
coming to the food pantry the food does not stay in here
long. Thank you all!
Also, several of our ministries continue to expand, we are
currently working on our Friendly Helper ministry so that we
can reach out to the sick in our parish. Also, our Prayer
Ministry is unfolding with several people reaching out to
want to commit to praying for those that are on our
list. Anyone interested in these ministries feel free to contact
me at 352-5400 or email me at [email protected].

please contact me if you are interested in this evening also.
For those interested in donating to our Food Pantry, we

OUR LADY OF VICTORY SCHOOL
A PARISH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
ACCREDITED BY THE MIDDLE STATES ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS
Dear OLV Parishioners,
One of the goals of our Home School
Association is to provide an environment
where school families can build a community
for the betterment of all. In doing so, the H S A
strives to maintain a calendar chock full of social activities allowing school families ample
opportunity to come together and meet each
other. Parents are given the chance to meet the
classmates and friends of their children. Out of
these social gathering, the OLV family is nourished and given room to grow.
With this in mind, all OLV school families are invited to participate in this Saturday
night’s Family Night event featuring exciting
Minute to Win It–type activities. A registration
flyer can be found on our website, under the
Wednesday Mail tab. I’m sure all will enjoy
this special night!
OLV School’s After School Clubs started this past week. With so many children participating in fall clubs such as Scrabble, Beautiful Me, Lego, Intramurals, Sodality, Craft and
Drama—the school hallways remain spirited
long after dismissal. The spring clubs include
Mock Trail, Scratch (computer programming),
Dance, Spanish Scrabble and Golf. We are
very proud of our enrichment opportunities!
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Peg Augello
